< Luke 20 >

1 It happened on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the Good News, that the chief priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
ⲁ̅ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲟⲩϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϥⲉⲩⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲓⲍⲉ ⲁⲛⲁⲣⲭⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ⲉⲓ ⲉϫⲱϥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲅⲣⲁⲙⲙⲁⲧⲉⲩⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲡⲣⲉⲥⲃⲩⲧⲉⲣⲟⲥ
2 They asked him, "Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?"
ⲃ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲁϫⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ⲁϣ ⲛⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲏ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϯ ⲛⲁⲕ ⲛⲧⲉⲓⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ
3 He answered them, "I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
ⲅ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲇⲉ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ϯⲛⲁϫⲛⲟⲩⲧⲛ ϩⲱ ⲉⲩϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲁⲛϫⲟⲟϥ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ

ⲇ̅ⲡⲃⲁⲡⲧⲓⲥⲙⲁ ⲛⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉⲉ ⲡⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲣⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ
5 They reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why did you not believe him?'
ⲉ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩⲙⲉⲕⲙⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲉⲣⲏⲩ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲛϣⲁϫⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉⲉ ⲡⲉ ϥⲛⲁϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ϭⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲛⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
6 But if we say, 'From man,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that Yukhanan was a prophet."
ⲋ̅ⲉⲛϣⲁϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲣⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ⲛⲁϩⲓⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲛ ⲥⲉⲡⲓⲑⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲁ ⲓⲱϩⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲡⲉ
7 They answered that they did not know where it was from.
ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲡⲉ
8 Yeshua said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."
ⲏ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϩⲱ ⲛϯⲛⲁϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ϩⲛ ⲁϣ ⲛⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲉⲓⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ
9 He began to tell the people this parable. "A man planted a vineyard, and rented it out to some farmers, and went on a journey for a long time.
ⲑ̅ⲁϥⲁⲣⲭⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛϫⲱ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲓⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲟⲗⲏ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲱϭⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲁⲁϥ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲟⲩⲉⲓⲏ ⲁϥⲁⲡⲟⲇⲏⲙⲉⲓ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲛⲟϭ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲓϣ
10 At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him, and sent him away empty.
ⲓ̅ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲩⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲛⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲁϥϫⲉⲩ ⲟⲩϩⲙϩⲁⲗ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲓⲏ ϫⲉ ⲉⲩⲉϯ ⲛⲁϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲁⲣⲡⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲓⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩϫⲛⲁϥ ⲉϥϣⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧ
11 He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϩ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ⲉϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲕⲉϩⲙϩⲁⲗ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲡⲕⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲁⲩⲥⲟϣϥ ⲁⲩϫⲟⲟⲩϥ ⲉϥϣⲟⲩⲉⲓⲧ
12 He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him, and threw him out.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϩ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ ⲉϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲙⲉϩϣⲟⲙⲛⲧ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲗϩ ⲡⲉⲓⲕⲉⲧ ⲁⲩⲛⲟϫϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
13 The lord of the vineyard said, 'What am I to do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that they will respect him.'
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲛⲁⲣ ⲟⲩ ϯⲛⲁϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲉⲣⲓⲧ ⲙⲉϣⲁⲕ ⲉⲩⲉϣⲓⲡⲉ ϩⲏⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲁⲓ
14 "But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, 'This is the heir. Let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.'
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲛⲟⲩⲉⲓⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩϣⲟϫⲛⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲉⲣⲏⲩ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲁⲣⲛⲙⲟⲟⲩⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲕⲗⲏⲣⲟⲛⲟⲙⲓⲁ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛⲁⲛ
15 They threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲁⲩⲛⲟϫϥ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲁⲩⲙⲟⲟⲩⲧϥ ⲉⲣⲉⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ϭⲉ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲛⲁⲣ ⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲩ
16 He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others." When they heard it, they said, "May it never be."
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ϥⲛⲏⲩ ⲛϥⲧⲁⲕⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲉⲓⲏ ⲛϥϯ ⲙⲡⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲗⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲕⲟⲟⲩⲉ ⲁⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ
17 But he looked at them, and said, "Then what is this that is written, 'The stone which the builders rejected, this one was made the cornerstone?'
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲥⲏϩ ϫⲉ ⲡⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲕⲱⲧ ⲥⲧⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲁⲡⲉ ⲛⲕⲟⲟϩ
18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will crush him."
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϩⲉ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ϥⲛⲁⲗⲱⲱⲥ ⲡⲉⲧϥⲛⲁϩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉϫⲱϥ ϥⲛⲁϣⲁϣϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
19 The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲁⲩϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲁⲣⲭⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲅⲣⲁⲙⲙⲁⲧⲉⲩⲥ ⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲩϭⲓϫ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲱϥ ⲉϭⲟⲡϥ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ϩⲏⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲓⲙⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϫⲉ ⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲱ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲧⲉⲓⲡⲁⲣⲁⲃⲟⲗⲏ
20 They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
ⲕ̅ⲁⲩⲡⲁⲣⲁⲧⲏⲣⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲣⲉϥϭ ⲱⲣϭ ⲉϩⲩⲡⲟⲕⲣⲓⲛⲉ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉ ϩⲉⲛⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲛⲉ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲩⲉϭⲟⲡϥ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲧⲁⲣⲭⲏ ⲙⲛ ⲧⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲙⲫⲏⲅⲉⲙⲱⲛ
21 They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲁⲩϫⲛⲟⲩϥ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ ⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲕϣⲁϫⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲟⲩⲧⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲕϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲉⲙⲉⲕϫⲓ ϩⲟ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉⲕϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉϩⲓⲏ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲉ
22 Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲉⲝⲉⲥⲧⲓ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲉϯⲫⲟⲣⲟⲥ ⲙⲡⲣⲣⲟ ϫⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲕ ⲉⲝⲉⲥⲧⲓ
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲁϥⲓⲙⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲩⲡⲁⲛⲟⲩⲣⲅⲓⲁ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ
24 "Show me a denura. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's."
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ϫⲉ ⲙⲁⲧⲥⲁⲃⲟⲓ ⲉⲩⲥⲁⲧⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩⲧⲟⲩⲟϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡϩⲟ ⲛⲛⲓⲙ ⲧⲉⲧϩⲓⲱⲱⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲡⲉ
25 He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ϯ ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲛⲁ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲙⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲁⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ
26 They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. And amazed at his answer, they fell silent.
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲉϣϭⲙϭⲟⲙ ⲉϭⲟⲡϥ ⲛⲟⲩϣⲁϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲙⲧⲟ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲣϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϫⲙ ⲡⲉϥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲁⲩⲕⲁ ⲣⲱⲟⲩ
27 Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩϯ ⲡⲉⲩⲟⲩⲟⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲛⲥⲁⲇⲇⲟⲩⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲙⲛ ⲁⲛⲁⲥⲧⲁⲥⲓⲥ ⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
28 They asked him, "Teacher, Mushe wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother.
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ϫⲉ ⲡⲥⲁϩ ⲁⲙⲱⲩⲥⲏⲥ ⲥⲁϩϥ ⲛⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲉϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲣϣⲁⲛ ⲡⲥⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲛⲧϥ ⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲩⲁⲧϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ ϫⲓ ⲧⲉϥⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ⲛϥⲧⲟⲩⲛⲟⲥ ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲡⲉⲣⲙⲁ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲛ
29 There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife."

35 But those who are regarded as worthy of a place in that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given to someone to marry. (aiōn g165)

36 For they cannot die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

37 But that the dead are raised, even Mushe showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Avraham, the God of Iskhaq, and the God of Yaquv.'
