< 1 Corinthians 8 >

1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
ⲁ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲛϣⲱⲱⲧ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⲧⲏⲣⲛ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲟⲩⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϣⲁϥϫⲓⲥⲉ ⲧⲁⲅⲁⲡⲏ ⲇⲉ ϣⲁⲥⲕⲱⲧ
2 But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
ⲃ̅ⲡⲉⲧϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁⲓⲥⲟⲩⲛ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲁⲧϥⲥⲟⲩⲛ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧϣϣⲉ ⲉⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ
3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by him.
ⲅ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲁⲩⲥⲟⲩⲱⲛϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ
4 Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.
ⲇ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲱⲙ ϭⲉ ⲛⲛϣⲱⲱⲧ ⲛⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ϩⲙ ⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ϫⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲟⲩⲁ
5 For though there are things that are called "gods," whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many "gods" and many "lords;"
ⲉ̅ⲕⲁⲓⲅⲁⲣ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲉϣⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲧⲉ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲓⲧⲉ ϩⲓϫⲙ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ⲛⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲁϩ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϩⲓ ϩⲁϩ ⲛϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ
6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Yeshua Meshikha, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
ⲋ̅ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲧϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲡⲉⲓⲱⲧ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁ ⲡⲧⲏⲣϥ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲙⲛ ⲟⲩϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲟⲩⲱⲧ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲣⲉ ⲡⲧⲏⲣϥ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲛⲟⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧϥ
7 However, not all have this knowledge. But some, being so accustomed to idols until now, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
ⲍ̅ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲙⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲁⲛ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϩⲙ ⲡⲧⲱⲡ ⲙⲡⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ϣⲁ ϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲥⲉⲟⲩⲱⲙ ϩⲱⲥ ϣⲱⲱⲧ ⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲉⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲥϭⲟⲟⲃ ⲥⲧⲱⲗⲙ
8 But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we do not eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
ⲏ̅ⲙⲛ ϩⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲡⲁⲣϩⲓⲥⲧⲁ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲉⲛϣⲁⲛⲧⲙⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲛⲧⲛⲛⲁϣⲱⲱⲧ ⲁⲛ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲉⲛϣⲁⲛⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲛⲧⲛⲛⲁⲣϩⲟⲩⲟ ⲁⲛ
9 But be careful that by no means does this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to the weak.
ⲑ̅ϭⲱϣⲧ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲏⲡⲱⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲓⲉⲝⲟⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲛϫⲣⲟⲡ ⲛⲛⲉⲧϭⲟⲟⲃ
10 For if someone sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol's temple, won't his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
ⲓ̅ⲉⲣϣⲁⲛ ⲟⲩⲁ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲣⲟⲕ ⲡⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲛⲧⲁϥ ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲙⲡⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲉⲕⲛⲏϫ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲁ ⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ ⲉⲩϭⲱⲃ ⲡⲉ ⲙⲏ ⲛⲧⲉϥⲥⲩⲛⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲕⲱⲧ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲟⲩⲱⲙ ⲛⲛϣⲱⲱⲧ ⲛⲛⲉⲓⲇⲱⲗⲟⲛ
11 And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whom the Meshikha died.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ϥⲛⲁϩⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲉⲧϭⲟⲟⲃ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲕⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲡⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲛⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲙⲟⲩ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ
12 Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Meshikha.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲧⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲧⲉ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲉⲛⲉⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣⲱϩⲧ ⲛⲧⲉⲩⲥⲩⲛⲓⲇⲏⲥⲓⲥ ⲉⲥϭⲟⲟⲃ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲣⲛⲟⲃⲉ ⲉⲡⲉⲭⲥ
13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forevermore, that I do not cause my brother to stumble. (aiōn g165)
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲟⲩϩⲣⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁⲥⲕⲁⲛⲇⲁⲗⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲡⲁⲥⲟⲛ ⲛⲛⲁⲟⲩⲉⲙ ⲁϥ ϣⲁ ⲉⲛⲉϩ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲉⲓⲥⲕⲁⲛⲇⲁⲗⲓⲍⲉ ⲙⲡⲁⲥⲟⲛ (aiōn g165)
