Romans 15
1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to seek our own pleasure.
Or nous devons, nous qui sommes forts, supporter les infirmités des faibles, et ne pas nous complaire en nous-mêmes.
2 Let each one of us try to make his neighbor happy for his good, unto his upbuilding.
Que chacun de nous cherche à complaire au prochain, en vue du bien qui en résulte pour l'édification:
3 For even Christ pleased not himself; but as it is written, The reproaches of those who were reproaching thee fell upon me.
Christ n'a point cherché sa propre satisfaction, mais, comme il est écrit, «les outrages de ceux qui t’outragent sont tombés sur moi»
4 For everything that was written of old has been written for our instruction, that through patience, and through the comfort of the Scriptures, we might have hope.
Car tout ce qui a été précédemment écrit, l'a été pour notre instruction, afin que par la patience, ainsi que par la consolation que donnent les Écritures, nous possédions l'espérance.
5 Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be in full sympathy with one another, in accordance with the example of Jesus Christ;
Que le Dieu de patience et de consolation vous donne d'être en bonne intelligence entre vous, comme Jésus-Christ le veut;
6 so that with one heart and with one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
afin que tous ensemble, d'une même voix, vous glorifiiez Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.
7 Wherefore always receive one another into fellowship, to the glory of God, even as Christ also received you.
En conséquence, accueillez-vous les uns les autres, comme Christ vous a accueillis pour la gloire de Dieu:
8 For I say that Christ has been made a minister of the Circumcision the people of Israel, in vindication of God’s truth, so that he may confirm the promises given to our forefathers;
j'affirme en effet, que Christ a été ministre des circoncis, pour montrer la véracité de Dieu en réalisant les promesses faites à leurs pères;
9 and so that the Gentiles also should praise God for his mercy, as it is written, Therefore I will offer praise to thee among the Gentiles, And sing to thy name.
quant aux Gentils, ils glorifient Dieu pour sa miséricorde, ainsi qu'il est écrit: «C'est pourquoi je te louerai parmi les Gentils, et je célébrerai ton nom.»
10 Or again, Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.
L'Ecriture dit encore: «Gentils, réjouissez-vous avec son peuple; »
11 Or again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles, And let all the people extol him.
et ailleurs: «Gentils, louez tous le Seigneur; que tous les peuples célèbrent ses louanges.»
12 Or again, as Isaiah says. There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that arises to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.
Esaïe dit aussi: «Il paraîtra le rejeton d'Issaï, celui qui s'élèvera pour gouverner les Gentils: ils mettront leur espoir en lui.»
13 Now the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may be overflowing with hope in the power of the Holy Spirit.
Que le Dieu de l'espérance vous fasse trouver dans votre foi toute sorte de joie et de paix, pour que vous soyez pleins d'espérance, par la puissance de l’Esprit-Saint!
14 And I myself also am confident regarding you, my brothers, that you yourselves are already full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, and well able to give advice to one another.
Moi aussi, mes frères, je suis persuadé, en ce qui vous concerne, que pour vous, vous êtes pleins de bonté, remplis d'une parfaite connaissance, en état de vous avertir les uns les autres.
15 Still I have written unto you the more boldly, in part, by way of reminding you, because of that gift of grace which God bestowed upon me, in making me a priest of Jesus Christ unto the Gentiles.
Si, dans quelques endroits, je vous ai écrit un peu librement, c'est plutôt pour raviver vos souvenirs, — à cause de la grâce que Dieu m'a faite
16 I act as priest of the gospel of God; so that the Gentiles, when offered before him, may be an acceptable sacrifice, because consecrated by the Holy Spirit.
d'être ministre de Jésus-Christ pour les Gentils, — en m’acquittant du divin service de l'évangile de Dieu, afin que les Gentils soient une oblation agréable, étant sanctifiée par le Saint-Esprit.
17 I have then my boast in Christ Jesus concerning the things of God.
Je puis donc me glorifier en Jésus-Christ pour les affaires religieuses,
18 For I will not dare to speak of any thing except that which Christ has done through me to bring the Gentiles to obedience by word and deed,
car je n'oserais dire chose au monde, que Christ n'ait faite par mon ministère pour la conversion des Gentils, en parole et en action,
19 through the might of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit. So that beginning at Jerusalem and its environs, I have proclaimed without reserve the gospel of Christ, even as far as Illyricum.
par la puissance des miracles et des prodiges, par celle de l'esprit; si bien que depuis Jérusalem et tout autour, jusqu'en Illyrie, j'ai porté partout l'évangile de Christ,
20 My ambition has been, however, to preach the gospel where Christ’s name was not already known, so that I might not build upon another man’s foundation.
me faisant toutefois un point d'honneur de prêcher l'Évangile, non pas là où le nom de Christ a été annoncé, pour ne pas bâtir sur le fondement d'autrui, mais dans d'autres pays,
21 But, as Scripture says, He shall be seen by those to whom no news about him ever came, And those who have never heard of him shall understand.
selon qu'il est écrit: «Ceux à qui ou ne l'avait pas annoncé, le verront, et ceux qui n'en avaient pais entendu parler, le connaîtront.»
22 This is why I have been so hindered from coming to you.
C'est ce qui d'ordinaire m'a empêché de me rendre chez vous;
23 But now, since I have no more any "opening" in these parts, and since I have longed for many years to come to you
mais à présent, n'ayant plus à faire dans ces contrées-ci, et ayant depuis plusieurs années le désir d'aller vers vous, j'espère vous voir en passant, quand je me rendrai en Espagne,
24 whenever I go to Spain, I am hoping to see you on my way there, and to be set forward by you on my way there, and to be set forward by you on my journey thither, after I have enjoyed your company for a little while.
et y être accompagné par vous, après que j'aurai d'abord satisfait, en partie du moins, le désir que j'ai de vous voir.
25 Just now I am going to Jerusalem to serve the saints.
Pour le moment, je vais à Jérusalem porter secours aux saints;
26 For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make an offering for the poor among the saints at Jerusalem.
car la Macédoine et l'Achaïe ont bien voulu s'imposer quelque contribution pour les saints de Jérusalem qui sont dans la pauvreté.
27 Yes, it has been made their good pleasure, and their debt, too. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual riches, they owe it to them also to minister to them the Jews in worldly goods.
Elles l'ont bien voulu; du reste, elles le leur devaient, car si les Gentils ont eu part à leurs biens spirituels, ils doivent aussi les assister de leurs biens matériels.
28 When, therefore, I have settled this, and have secured to them the poor at Jerusalem the fruit of this collection, I shall come on by you into Spain.
Après m'être acquitté de cette mission, et leur avoir officiellement déclaré ce fruit de la reconnaissance, je gagnerai l'Espagne en passant chez vous,
29 And I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.
et je sais qu'en me rendant auprès de vous, j'y viendrai avec une pleine bénédiction de Christ.
30 Brothers, I beseech you, by Jesus Christ our Lord, and by the love which the Spirit gives, to help me in my struggle by your prayers to God on my behalf,
Je vous prie, mes frères, par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et par l'amour que mon âme ressent, de me soutenir dans mes luttes, en priant Dieu pour moi;
31 that I may be delivered from the disobedient in Judea; that my mission to Jerusalem may be favorably received by the saints;
afin que j'échappe aux incrédules de Judée, et que l'assistance que je porte à Jérusalem soit agréable aux saints,
32 and that I may come to you in joy, by the will of God, and find rest together with you.
en sorte que, s'il plaît à Dieu, je me rende chez vous dans la joie, et que je goûte quelque repos avec vous.
33 The God of peace be with you all! Amen.
Que le Dieu de paix soit avec vous tous! Amen!
