Luke 7
1 After he had ended all his sayings in the hearing of the people, he went to Capernaum.
イエスは、耳を傾けている民衆にこれらのことばをみな話し終えられると、カペナウムにはいられた。
2 Here the slave of a certain Roman captain, a man dear to his master, was ill, and at the point of death.
ところが、ある百人隊長に重んじられているひとりのしもべが、病気で死にかけていた。
3 So when the captain heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to ask him to come and save his slave.
百人隊長は、イエスのことを聞き、みもとにユダヤ人の長老たちを送って、しもべを助けに来てくださるようお願いした。
4 And they, when they reached Jesus, asked him earnestly to do this. "He deserves that you should do this," they said,
イエスのもとに来たその人たちは、熱心にお願いして言った。「この人は、あなたにそうしていただく資格のある人です。
5 "for he loves our nation, and himself has built a synagogue for us."
この人は、私たちの国民を愛し、私たちのために会堂を建ててくれた人です。」
6 So Jesus started to go with them, but while he was not far from the house, the captain sent friends to him with a message. "Lord do not trouble yourself, for I am not fit that you should come under my roof,
イエスは、彼らといっしょに行かれた。そして、百人隊長の家からあまり遠くない所に来られたとき、百人隊長は友人たちを使いに出して、イエスに伝えた。「主よ。わざわざおいでくださいませんように。あなたを私の屋根の下にお入れする資格は、私にはありません。
7 "and so I did not think myself worthy to come to you; but speak the word, and let my man be cured.
ですから、私のほうから伺うことさえ失礼と存じました。ただ、おことばをいただかせてください。そうすれば、私のしもべは必ずいやされます。
8 "For I also am a man obedient to authority, and have soldiers under me. And I say to one ‘come,’ and he comes, and to my slave ‘do this or that,’ and he does it."
と申しますのは、私も権威の下にある者ですが、私の下にも兵士たちがいまして、そのひとりに『行け。』と言えば行きますし、別の者に『来い。』と言えば来ます。また、しもべに『これをせよ。』と言えば、そのとおりにいたします。」
9 But when Jesus heard this he was astonished and he turned and said to the crowd that was following him, "I tell you that not even in Israel have I found faith like that."
これを聞いて、イエスは驚かれ、ついて来ていた群衆のほうに向いて言われた。「あなたがたに言いますが、このようなりっぱな信仰は、イスラエルの中にも見たことがありません。」
10 And those who had been sent, on returning to the house, found the slave well.
使いに来た人たちが家に帰ってみると、しもべはよくなっていた。
11 Soon afterward he went to a city called Nain, accompanied by his disciples, and a great crowd of people.
それから間もなく、イエスはナインという町に行かれた。弟子たちと大ぜいの人の群れがいっしょに行った。
12 Now when he drew near the gate of the city, behold, they were there carrying out one who was dead, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
イエスが町の門に近づかれると、やもめとなった母親のひとり息子が、死んでかつぎ出されたところであった。町の人たちが大ぜいその母親につき添っていた。
13 A great crowd accompanied her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep."
主はその母親を見てかわいそうに思い、「泣かなくてもよい。」と言われた。
14 And he came near and touched the bier; the bearer stopped and he said, "Young man, I bid you to rise."
そして近寄って棺に手をかけられると、かついでいた人たちが立ち止まったので、「青年よ。あなたに言う、起きなさい。」と言われた。
15 And he who was dead sat up and began to speak; and he gave him to his mother.
すると、その死人が起き上がって、ものを言い始めたので、イエスは彼を母親に返された。
16 And awe took hold on them all, and they began to glorify God saying. "A great prophet has risen among us;" and, "God has visited his people."
人々は恐れを抱き、「大預言者が私たちのうちに現われた。」とか、「神がその民を顧みてくださった。」などと言って、神をあがめた。
17 And the report of what Jesus had done went forth throughout Judea and the surrounding regions.
イエスについてこの話がユダヤ全土と回りの地方一帯に広まった。
18 John’s disciples brought him word of all these things
さて、ヨハネの弟子たちは、これらのことをすべてヨハネに報告した。
19 and, calling a certain two disciples to him, he sent them to Jesus, to say, "Are you ‘the coming one,’ or if we are to expect another?"
すると、ヨハネは、弟子の中からふたりを呼び寄せて、主のもとに送り、「おいでになるはずの方は、あなたですか。それとも、私たちはほかの方を待つべきでしょうか。」と言わせた。
20 So the men came to Jesus and said, "Johnthe Baptist has sent us to ask you if you are the coming one, or if we are to expect another."
ふたりはみもとに来て言った。「バプテスマのヨハネから遣わされてまいりました。『おいでになるはずの方は、あなたですか。それとも私たちはなおほかの方を待つべきでしょうか。』とヨハネが申しております。」
21 At that moment Jesus was healing many people of diseases and plagues and evil spirits, and to many that were blind he was freely giving their sight.
ちょうどそのころ、イエスは、多くの人々を病気と苦しみと悪霊からいやし、また多くの盲人を見えるようにされた。
22 So he answered them. "Go your way, tell Johnwhat you have seen and heard. How the blind are seeing, the lame are walking, the lepers are being cleansed, the deaf are hearing, the dead are being raised, and the poor are hearing the proclamations of glad tidings.
そして、答えてこう言われた。「あなたがたは行って、自分たちの見たり聞いたりしたことをヨハネに報告しなさい。盲人が見えるようになり、足なえが歩き、らい病人がきよめられ、つんぼの人が聞こえ、死人が生き返り、貧しい者に福音が宣べ伝えられています。
23 "And blessed is he who finds no cause of stumbling in me."
だれでも、わたしにつまずかない者は幸いです。」
24 When John’s messengers were gone he began to speak to the crowds about John, saying, "What went out you out to the desert to behold? A reed shaken by the wind?
ヨハネの使いが帰ってから、イエスは群衆に、ヨハネについて話しだされた。「あなたがたは、何を見に荒野に出て行ったのですか。風に揺れる葦ですか。
25 "But what you went out to behold? A man clothed in soft robes? Behold, men who are gorgeously dressed and live in luxury are in kings’ palaces.
でなかったら、何を見に行ったのですか。柔らかい着物を着た人ですか。きらびやかな着物を着て、ぜいたくに暮らしている人たちなら宮殿にいます。
26 "But what went you to see? A prophet?
でなかったら、何を見に行ったのですか。預言者ですか。そのとおり。だが、わたしが言いましょう。預言者よりもすぐれた者をです。
27 "Yes, I tell you and more than a prophet. This is he who it is written. "Behold I send a messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.
その人こそ、 『見よ、わたしは使いをあなたの前に遣わし、 あなたの道を、あなたの前に備えさせよう。』 と書かれているその人です。
28 "I tell you that among all that are born of women not one is greater than John; yet he that is little in the kingdom of God is greater than he."
あなたがたに言いますが、女から生まれた者の中で、ヨハネよりもすぐれた人は、ひとりもいません。しかし、神の国で一番小さい者でも、彼よりすぐれています。
29 On hearing this all the people and the tax-gatherers acknowledged the justice of God by being baptized with the baptism of John;
ヨハネの教えを聞いたすべての民は、取税人たちさえ、ヨハネのバプテスマを受けて、神の正しいことを認めたのです。
30 but the Pharisees and lawyers who had refused his baptism, frustrated God’s purpose for themselves.
これに反して、パリサイ人、律法の専門家たちは、彼からバプテスマを受けないで、神の自分たちに対するみこころを拒みました。
31 "To what then shall I compare the men of this generation?
では、この時代の人々は、何にたとえたらよいでしょう。何に似ているでしょう。
32 "To What are they like, they are like children sitting in the market- place and calling to one another. "‘We have piped to you,’ they say, ‘and you have not danced; we have wailed, and you did not cry.’
市場にすわって、互いに呼びかけながら、こう言っている子どもたちに似ています。 『笛を吹いてやっても、君たちは踊らなかった。 弔いの歌を歌ってやっても、泣かなかった。』
33 "For Johnthe Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon!’
というわけは、バプテスマのヨハネが来て、パンも食べず、ぶどう酒も飲まずにいると、『あれは悪霊につかれている。』とあなたがたは言うし、
34 "The son of man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold a gluttonous man and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!’
人の子が来て、食べもし、飲みもすると、『あれ見よ。食いしんぼうの大酒飲み、取税人や罪人の仲間だ。』と言うのです。
35 "Nevertheless, wisdom is justified by all her children."
だが、知恵の正しいことは、そのすべての子どもたちが証明します。」
36 One of the Pharisees kept urging him to dine, so he entered the house and reclined at table.
さて、あるパリサイ人が、いっしょに食事をしたい、とイエスを招いたので、そのパリサイ人の家にはいって食卓に着かれた。
37 Now there was a woman who was in the city, a sinner and when she knew that that Jesus was reclining at meat in the Pharisees house, she brought an alabaster vase of perfume,
すると、その町にひとりの罪深い女がいて、イエスがパリサイ人の家で食卓に着いておられることを知り、香油のはいった石膏のつぼを持って来て、
38 and standing behind, at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and to wipe them with her hair, while she tenderly kissed his feet, and poured the perfume over them.
泣きながら、イエスのうしろで御足のそばに立ち、涙で御足をぬらし始め、髪の毛でぬぐい、御足に口づけして、香油を塗った。
39 When he noticed this the Pharisee, who had invited him, said to himself, "If this man were really a prophet he would have perceived who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, and would know that she is a sinner."
イエスを招いたパリサイ人は、これを見て、「この方がもし預言者なら、自分にさわっている女がだれで、どんな女であるか知っておられるはずだ。この女は罪深い者なのだから。」と心ひそかに思っていた。
40 Jesus then spoke to him. "Simon, I have a word to say to you." "Rabbi, say on," he replied.
するとイエスは、彼に向かって、「シモン。あなたに言いたいことがあります。」と言われた。シモンは、「先生。お話しください。」と言った。
41 "There were once to men," said Jesus, "in debt to one money- lender. One owed him fifty pounds; the other five.
「ある金貸しから、ふたりの者が金を借りていた。ひとりは五百デナリ、ほかのひとりは五十デナリ借りていた。
42 "When they had nothing pay he forgave them with such charm. "Tell me, then, which of these will love him most?"
彼らは返すことができなかったので、金貸しはふたりとも赦してやった。 では、ふたりのうちどちらがよけいに金貸しを愛するようになるでしょうか。」
43 "I take it," said Simon, "the one he forgave the most."
シモンが、「よけいに赦してもらったほうだと思います。」と答えると、イエスは、「あなたの判断は当たっています。」と言われた。
44 "You have rightly judged." answered Jesus, and turning to the woman, he said to Simon. "Do you see this woman? When I came into your house you gave me no water for my feet; but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
そしてその女のほうを向いて、シモンに言われた。「この女を見ましたか。わたしがこの家にはいって来たとき、あなたは足を洗う水をくれなかったが、この女は、涙でわたしの足をぬらし、髪の毛でぬぐってくれました。
45 "You gave me no kiss; but she, since she came in, has never ceased tenderly kissing my feet;
あなたは、口づけしてくれなかったが、この女は、わたしがはいって来たときから足に口づけしてやめませんでした。
46 "you never anointed my head with oil; but she has anointed my feet with my feet with perfume.
あなたは、わたしの頭に油を塗ってくれなかったが、この女は、わたしの足に香油を塗ってくれました。
47 "This is why I tell you that her sins, many as they are, are forgiven, for her love is great; but he who is forgiven little, loves but little.
だから、わたしは言うのです。『この女の多くの罪は赦されています。というのは、彼女はよけい愛したからです。しかし少ししか赦されない者は、少ししか愛しません。』」
48 "Your sins are forgiven," he said to her.
そして女に、「あなたの罪は赦されています。」と言われた。
49 Then the other guest began to say among themselves, "Who is this even to forgive sins?"
すると、いっしょに食卓にいた人たちは、心の中でこう言い始めた。「罪を赦したりするこの人は、いったいだれだろう。」
50 But he said to the woman. "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace."
しかし、イエスは女に言われた。「あなたの信仰が、あなたを救ったのです。安心して行きなさい。」
