Matthew 25
1 “Then will the kingdom of the heavens be likened to ten virgins, who, having taken their lamps, went forth to meet the bridegroom;
« Alors le royaume des cieux sera semblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, s’en allèrent au-devant de l’époux.
2 and five of them were prudent, and five foolish;
Il y en avait cinq qui étaient folles, et cinq qui étaient sages.
3 they who were foolish having taken their lamps, did not take with themselves oil;
Les cinq folles, ayant pris leurs lampes, ne prirent pas d’huile avec elles;
4 and the prudent took oil in their vessels, with their lamps.
mais les sages prirent de l’huile dans leurs vases avec leurs lampes.
5 And the bridegroom lingering, they all nodded and were sleeping,
Comme l’époux tardait à venir, elles s’assoupirent toutes et s’endormirent.
6 and in the middle of the night a cry was made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go forth to meet him!
Au milieu de la nuit, un cri s’éleva: Voici l’époux qui vient, allez au-devant de lui.
7 Then all those virgins rose, and trimmed their lamps,
Alors toutes ces vierges se levèrent et préparèrent leurs lampes.
8 and the foolish said to the prudent, Give us of your oil, because our lamps are going out;
Et les folles dirent aux sages: Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s’éteignent.
9 and the prudent answered, saying, Lest there may not be sufficient for us and you, go rather to those selling, and buy for yourselves.
Les sages répondirent: De crainte qu’il n’y en ait pas assez pour nous et pour vous; allez plutôt chez ceux qui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous.
10 And while they are going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those ready went in with him to the wedding feasts, and the door was shut;
Mais, pendant qu’elles allaient en acheter, l’époux arriva, et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrent avec lui dans la salle des noces, et la porte fut fermée.
11 and afterward come also the rest of the virgins, saying, Lord, lord, open to us;
Plus tard, les autres vierges vinrent aussi, disant: Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvrez-nous.
12 and he answering said, Truly I say to you, I have not known you.
Il leur répondit: En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais pas.
13 Watch therefore, for you have not known the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man comes.
« Veillez donc, car vous ne savez ni le jour, ni l’heure.
14 For—as a man going abroad called his own servants, and delivered to them his substance,
« Car il en sera comme d’un homme qui, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur remit ses biens.
15 and to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each according to his several ability, went abroad immediately.
A l’un il donna cinq talents, à un autre deux, à un autre un, selon la capacité de chacun, et il partit aussitôt.
16 And he who received the five talents, having gone, worked with them, and made five other talents;
Celui qui avait reçu cinq talents, s’en étant allé, les fit valoir, et en gagna cinq autres.
17 in like manner also he who [received] the two, he gained, also he, other two;
De la même manière, celui qui en avait reçu deux, en gagna deux autres.
18 and he who received the one, having gone away, dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
Mais celui qui n’en avait reçu qu’un, s’en alla creuser la terre, et y cacha l’argent de son maître.
19 And after a long time comes the lord of those servants, and takes reckoning with them;
Long temps après, le maître de ces serviteurs étant revenu, leur fit rendre compte.
20 and he who received the five talents, having come, brought five other talents, saying, Lord, you delivered five talents to me; behold, I gained five other talents besides them.
Celui qui avait reçu cinq talents s’approcha et lui en présenta cinq autres, en disant: Seigneur, vous m’aviez remis cinq talents; en voici de plus cinq autres que j’ai gagnés.
21 And his lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, you were faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things; enter into the joy of your lord.
Son maître lui dit: C’est bien, serviteur bon et fidèle; parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t’établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
22 And he also, who received the two talents, having come, said, Lord, you delivered to me two talents; behold, I gained two other talents besides them.
Celui qui avait reçu deux talents, vint aussi, et dit: Seigneur, vous m’aviez remis deux talents, en voici deux autres que j’ai gagnés.
23 His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant, you were faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things; enter into the joy of your lord.
Son maître lui dit: C’est bien, serviteur bon et fidèle, parce que tu as été fidèle en peu de choses, je t’établirai sur beaucoup: entre dans la joie de ton maître.
24 And he also who has received the one talent, having come, said, Lord, I knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering from where you did not scatter;
S’approchant à son tour, celui qui n’avait reçu qu’un talent, dit: Seigneur, je savais que tu ês un homme dur, qui moissonne où tu n’as pas semé, et recueille où tu n’as pas vanné.
25 and having been afraid, having gone away, I hid your talent in the earth; behold, you have your own!
J’ai eu peur, et j’ai été cacher ton talent dans la terre; le voici, je te rends ce qui est à toi.
26 And his lord answering said to him, Evil servant, and slothful, you had known that I reap where I did not sow, and I gather from where I did not scatter!
Son maître lui répondit: Serviteur méchant et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n’ai pas semé, et que je recueille où je n’ai pas vanné;
27 It was necessary [for] you then to put my money to the money-lenders, and having come I had received my own with increase.
il te fallait donc porter mon argent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j’aurais retiré ce qui m’appartient avec un intérêt.
28 Take therefore from him the talent, and give to him having the ten talents,
Ôtez-lui ce talent, et donnez-le à celui qui en a dix.
29 for to everyone having will be given, and he will have overabundance, and from him who is not having, even that which he has will be taken from him;
Car on donnera à celui qui a, et il sera dans l’abondance; mais à celui qui n’a pas, on ôtera même ce qu’il a.
30 and cast forth the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.
Et ce serviteur inutile, jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieures: c’est là qu’il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
31 And whenever the Son of Man may come in His glory, and all the holy messengers with Him, then He will sit on a throne of His glory;
« Lorsque le Fils de l’homme viendra dans sa gloire, et tous les anges avec lui, il s’assiéra sur le trône de sa gloire.
32 and all the nations will be gathered together before Him, and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
Et, toutes les nations étant rassemblées devant lui, il séparera les uns d’avec les autres, comme le pasteur sépare les brebis d’avec les boucs.
33 and He will set the sheep indeed on His right hand, and the goats on the left.
Et il mettra les brebis à sa droite, et les boucs à sa gauche.
34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, Come, the blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom that has been prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
Alors le Roi dira à ceux qui sont à sa droite: Venez, les bénis de mon Père: prenez possession du royaume qui vous a été préparé dès l’origine du monde.
35 for I hungered, and you gave Me to eat; I thirsted, and you gave Me to drink; I was a stranger, and you received Me;
Car j’ai eu faim, et vous m’avez donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous m’avez donné à boire; j’étais étranger, et vous m’avez recueilli;
36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you looked after Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.
nu, et vous m’avez vêtu; malade, et vous m’avez visité; en prison, et vous êtes venus à moi.
37 Then will the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungering, and we nourished? Or thirsting, and we gave to drink?
Les justes lui répondront: Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim, et vous avons-nous donné à manger; avoir soif, et vous avons-nous donné à boire?
38 And when did we see You a stranger, and we received? Or naked, and we clothed?
Quand vous avons-nous vu étranger, et vous avons-nous recueilli; nu, et vous avons-nous vêtu?
39 And when did we see You ailing or in prison, and we came to You?
Quand vous avons-nous vu malade ou en prison, et sommes-nous venus à vous?
40 And the King answering, will say to them, Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did [it] to one of these My brothers—the least—you did [it] to Me.
Et le Roi leur répondra: En vérité, je vous le dis, toutes les fois que vous l’avez fait à l’un de ces plus petits de mes frères, c’est à moi que vous l’avez fait.
41 Then will He say also to those on the left hand, Go from Me, the cursed, into the continuous fire that has been prepared for the Devil and his messengers; (aiōnios g166)
S’adressant ensuite à ceux qui seront à sa gauche, il dira: Retirez-vous de moi, maudits, allez au feu éternel, qui a été préparé pour le diable et ses anges. (aiōnios g166)
42 for I hungered, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I thirsted, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
Car j’ai eu faim, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à manger; j’ai eu soif, et vous ne m’avez pas donné à boire;
43 I was a stranger, and you did not receive Me; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick and in prison, and you did not look after Me.
j’étais étranger, et vous ne m’avez pas recueilli; nu, et vous ne m’avez pas vêtu; malade et en prison, et vous ne m’avez pas visité.
44 Then they will answer, they also, saying, Lord, when did we see You hungering, or thirsting, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and we did not minister to You?
Alors eux aussi lui diront: Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim ou soif, ou être étranger, ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne vous avons-nous pas assisté?
45 Then will He answer them, saying, Truly I say to you, inasmuch as you did [it] not to one of these, the least, you did [it] not to Me.
Et il leur répondra: En vérité, je vous le dis, chaque fois que vous ne l’avez pas fait à l’un de ces plus petits, c’est à moi que vous ne l’avez pas fait.
