Job 28
1 For truly there is a source for the silver, and a place for the gold which men refine.
Na verdade, há veia de onde se tira a prata, e para o ouro lugar em que o derretem.
2 Iron is taken out of the dust, and the stone is melted into copper.
O ferro se toma do pó, e da pedra se funde o metal.
3 An end doth he set to darkness, and the very utmost limit doth he search out, the stones of darkness, and of the shadow of death.
Ele pôs fim às trevas, e toda a extremidade ele esquadrinha, a pedra da escuridão e da sombra da morte.
4 He breaketh a channel far from the inhabited place; those of unsteady foot, the poorest of men move [there about].
Trasborda o ribeiro junto ao que habita ali, de maneira que se não possa passar a pé: então se esgota do homem, e as águas se vão.
5 The earth, out of which cometh forth bread, is under its surface turned up as it were with fire.
Da terra procede o pão, e debaixo dela se converte como em fogo.
6 Her stones are the place whence the sapphire cometh; and golden dust is also there;
As suas pedras são o lugar da safira, e tem pozinhos de ouro.
7 [On the] path which no bird of prey knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not surveyed;
Vereda que ignora a ave de rapina, e que não viu os olhos da gralha.
8 [Which] ravenous beasts have never trodden, over which the lion hath never passed.
Nunca a pisaram filhos de animais altivos, nem o feroz leão passou por ela.
9 To the flinty rock he stretcheth forth his hand; he overturneth the mountains from the root.
Estendeu a sua mão contra o rochedo, e transtorna os montes desde as suas raízes.
10 Amid rocks he heweth out canals: and every precious thing doth his eye behold.
Dos rochedos faz sair rios, e o seu olho viu tudo o que há precioso.
11 The various droppings of water he uniteth into streams, and what is hidden he bringeth forth to light.
Os rios tapa, e nem uma gota sai deles, e tira à luz o que estava escondido.
12 But wisdom—where shall she he found? and where is the place of understanding?
Porém de onde se achará a sabedoria? e onde está o lugar da inteligência?
13 Man knoweth not her value: and she is not to be found in the land of the living.
O homem não sabe a sua valia, e não se acha na terra dos viventes.
14 The deep saith, Not in me is she: and the sea saith, She is not with me.
O abismo diz: Não está em mim: e o mar diz: ela não está comigo.
15 No fine gold can be given in lieu of her, and silver cannot be weighed out as her price.
Não se dará por ela ouro fino, nem se pesará prata em câmbio dela.
16 She cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Nem se pode comprar por ouro fino de Ophir, nem pelo precioso onyx, nem pela safira.
17 She cannot be estimated after gold and glass; and not in exchange for her [can] vessels of refined gold [be taken.]
Com ela se não pode comparar o ouro nem o cristal; nem se dá em troca dela jóia de ouro fino.
18 Coral and crystal will not be thought of; and the value of wisdom is above pearls.
Não se fará menção de coral nem de pérolas; porque o desejo da sabedoria é melhor que o dos rubins.
19 She cannot be estimated after the topaz of Ethiopia, nor can she be valued with pure gold.
Não se lhe igualará o topázio de Cus, nem se pode comprar por ouro puro.
20 But wisdom—whence cometh she? and where is the place of understanding?
De onde pois vem a sabedoria? e onde está o lugar da inteligência?
21 Yea, she is hidden from the eyes of all living, and from the fowls of the heavens is she concealed.
Porque está encoberta aos olhos de todo o vivente, e oculta às aves do céu.
22 Perdition and death say, With our ears have we heard a report of her.
A perdição e a morte dizem: Ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos a sua fama.
23 God [alone] understandeth her way, and he knoweth her place;
Deus entende o seu caminho, e ele sabe o seu lugar.
24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, [whatever is] under the whole heaven doth he see.
Porque ele vê as extremidades da terra; e vê tudo o que há debaixo dos céus:
25 When he imparted weight unto the wind; and [when] the waters he established by measure;
Dando peso ao vento, e tomando a medida das águas.
26 When he made a law for the rain, and a way for the lightning of [his] thunders;
Prescrevendo lei para a chuva e caminho para o relâmpago dos trovões.
27 Then did he see her, and make her known; he established her, and also searched her out.
Então a viu e relatou, a preparou, e também a esquadrinhou.
28 And he said unto man, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to eschew evil is understanding.
Porém disse ao homem: Eis que o temor do Senhor é a sabedoria, e apartar-se do mal, a inteligência.
