Psalms 78
1 [A Psalm] of instruction for Asaph. Give heed, O my people, to my law: incline your ear to the words of my mouth.
2 I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter dark sayings [which have been] from the beginning.
Ho sokafeko ty vavako handrazaña’e: ho lañoneko razan-tsaontsy miheotse boak’an-kaehae’e;
3 All which we have heard and known, and our fathers have declared to us.
o jinanjin-tika naho fohin-tikañe vaho natalilin-droae aman-tikañeo.
4 They were not hid from their children to a second generations; [the fathers] declaring the praises of the Lord, and his mighty acts, and his wonders which he wrought.
Aa le tsy haetantika amo ana’ iareoo, fa hatalilin-tika amo tariratse ho avio ty fandrengeañe Iehovà, naho ty haozara’e vaho o fitoloña’e ra’elahy nifonire’eo.
5 And he raised up a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, to make it known to their children:
Fa noriza’e e Iakobe ao ty taroñe naho najado’e e Israele ao t’i Hake linili’e aman-droaen-tikañey, hañanara’ iareo o ana’ iareo,
6 that another generation might know, even the sons which should be born; and they should arise and declare them to their children.
hampahafohina’ iareo ty tariratse ho avy, naho o ajaja mbe hasamakeo, hitroara’ iareo hañoke o ana’eo,
7 That they might set their hope on God, and not forget the works of God, but diligently seek his commandments.
soa te ho aman’Añahare ty fatokisa’e, vaho tsy handikofa’ iareo o fitoloñan’ Añahareo, fe hambena’ iereo o lili’eo;
8 That they should not be as their fathers, a perverse and provoking generation; a generation which set not its heart aright, and its spirit was not steadfast with God.
naho tsy hitsikombe o roae’ iareoo; tariratse mitangingìñe naho miola, tariratse tsy nampifahatse troke, tsy nigahiñe aman’ Añahare ty arofo’e.
9 The children of Ephraim, bending and shooting [with] the bow, turned [back] in the day of battle.
Nimpitam-pale ninday fale o ana’ i Efraimeo f’ie niamboho tañ’ andro’ i hotakotakey.
10 They kept not the covenant of God, and would not walk in his law.
Tsy nambena’ iareo i fañinan’ Añaharey, vaho nifoneñe tsy hañavelo amy Tsara’ey.
11 And they forgot his benefits, and his miracles which he [had] showed them;
Nihaliño’ iareo o fitoloña’eo— o halatsàñe naboa’e am’ iareoo,
12 the miracles which he wrought before their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the plain of Tanes.
o raha tsitantane nanoe’e añatrefan- droae’ iareo e Mitsraimeo, an-tete’ i Tsòañe ao.
13 He clave the sea, and led them through: he made the waters to stand as [in] a bottle.
Finatsi’e i riakey naho nampisorohe’e mb’eo iereo! najoha’e hoe votry i ranoy.
14 And he guided them with a cloud by day, and all the night with a light of fire.
Le niaoloa’e an-drahoñe iereo te antoandro, naho an-kazavàñ’afo te haleñe am-para’ te niporea.
15 he clave a rock in the wilderness, and made them drink as in a great deep.
Finoi’e o vato am-patrañeo, finaha’e rano bey manahake i an-dalekey;
16 And he brought water out of the rock, and caused waters to flow down as rivers.
Nampitotsaha’e torahañe ty lamilamy vaho nampikararaha’e rano hoe oñe.
17 And they sinned yet more against him; they provoked the Most High in the wilderness.
Fe mbe nandilara’ iareo, niola amy Abo Tiañey am-babangoañ’ añe.
18 And they tempted God in their hearts, in asking meat for [the desire of] their souls.
Nitsohe’ iereo an-troke t’i Andrianañahare, nihalaly mahakama ty amy hadrao’iareo.
19 They spoke also against God, and said, Will God be able to prepare a table in the wilderness?
Toe, nandrabio’ iareo t’i Andrianañahare, ami’ty hoe: Mahafañalankañe fandambañañe an-dratraratra ao hao t’i Andrianañahare,
20 Forasmuch as he struck the rock, and the waters flowed, and the torrents ran abundantly; will he be able also to give bread, or prepare a table for his people?
Eka, finofo’e i vato nampidoandoan-dranoy, vaho nampanganahanae’e o torahañeo. Aa vaho hahafanjotsoa’e mofo ka? he ho fahana’e hena hao ondati’eo?
21 Therefore the Lord heard, and was provoked: and fire was kindled in Jacob, and wrath went up against Israel.
Aa ie jinaji’ Iehovà, le niforoforo ty fifombo’e, naho namiañañe afo t’Iakobe, vaho nionjoñe am’ Israele ty haviñerañe,
22 Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation.
Amy t’ie tsy natoky an’Andrianañahare, vaho tsy niatoa’ iareo ty fandrombaha’e;
23 Yet he commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven,
Fe linili’e o rahoñe amboneo, naho sinoka’e o lalambein-dindìñeo,
24 and rained upon them manna to eat, and gave them the bread of heaven.
nampikojojoaha’e mane ho kamae’iereo; nanjotsoa’e ampemban-dikerañe.
25 Man ate angels' bread; he sent them provision to the full.
Nikama ty mofom-panalolahy ondatio! nampidobaña’e mahakama nahaeneñe!
26 He removed the south wind from heaven; and by his might he brought in the southwest wind.
Nampikofaohe’e an-dikerañe ey ty tiok’ atiñanañe vaho nitehafe’e an-kaozarañe i tiok’ atimoy.
27 And he rained upon them flesh like dust, and feathered birds like the sand of the seas.
Nampidoañe’e am’ iareo ty hena hoe lemboke, voroñe amañ’elatse mira amo fasen-driakeo!
28 And they fell into the midst of their camp, round about their tents.
nampivotrahe’e aivo’ ty tobe’e ao, niarikoboñe i Toem-pimoneña’ey.
29 So they ate, and were completely filled; and he gave them their desire.
Aa le nikama iareo vaho nianjañe amy te nanjotsoa’e ty hasiji’ iareo.
30 They were not disappointed of their desire: [but] when their food was yet in their mouth,
Ie mboe nibòro ty drao’ iareo, mbe tam-palie’ iareo ao i henay,
31 then the indignation of God rose up against them, and killed the fattest of them, and overthrew the choice men of Israel.

32 In the midst of all this they sinned yet more, and believed not his miracles.
Ie amy zay iaby, mbe nitolon-kakeo iereo, tsy niantoke o fitoloña’e fanjakao.
33 And their days were consumed in vanity, and their years with anxiety.
Aa le nampigadoña’e an-kamodoañe ty andro’ iareo, naho an-kebahebake ty tao’ iareo.
34 When he killed them, they sought him: and they returned and called betimes upon God.
Ie zinevo’e iereo, naho nipay aze, nisoloho vaho nitsoeke an’Andrianañahare,
35 And they remembered that God was their helper, and the most high God was their redeemer.
le nahatiahy te lamilami’ iareo t’i Andrianamboatse, naho t’ie Mpijeba’ iareo i Andrianañaharen-dindimoneñey.
36 Yet they loved him [only] with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
Fe kinabea’ iareo am-palie; vaho nandañitse am-pameleke.
37 For their heart [was] not right with him, neither were they steadfast in his covenant.
Toe tsy nifahatse ama’e o arofo’ iareoo, naho tsy nigahiñe amy fañìna’ey.
38 But he is compassionate, and will forgive their sins, and will not destroy [them]: yes, he will frequently turn away his wrath, and will not kindle all his anger.
Fe amy fitretreza’ey, le hinaha’e o hakeo’ iareoo, naho tsy rinotsa’e; beteke natoli’e ty haviñera’e, vaho tsy fonga nitroboa’e o fifombo’eo!
39 And he remembered that they are flesh; a wind that passes away, and returns not.
Nitiahi’e te nofotse avao iareo, tioke mihelañe naho tsy mibalike.
40 How often did they provoke him in the wilderness, [and] anger him in a dry land!
Impire hao ty niodia’ iareo am-patrambey añe, vaho nampioje’Aze an-dratraratra añe?
41 Yes, they turned back, and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
Eka, niamboho naho nitsok’ an’Andrianañahare iereo, vaho nanigike i Masi’ Israeley
42 They remembered not his hand, the day in which he delivered them from the hand of the oppressor.
Tsy nitiahi’ iereo ty fità’e, i andro nijebaña’e iareo amy rafelahiy,
43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Tanes:
Ie nampipoha’e e Mitsraime añe o vilo’eo naho an-tete’ i Tsòañe ao o halatsà’eo.
44 and had changed their rivers into blood; and their streams, that they should not drink.
Nafote’e ho lio o saka’ iareoo, vaho tsy nimete kamaeñe o toraha’ iareoo.
45 He sent against them the dog-fly, and it devoured them; and the frog, and it spoiled them.
Nañiraha’e laletse nifamorohotse, namotseke, naho sahoñe nandrotsake.
46 And he gave their fruit to the canker worm, and their labors to the locust.
Natolo’e amo oletseo ty havokara’ iareo, amo valalao ty tolim-pitoloña’ iareo.
47 He killed their vines with hail, and their sycamores with frost.
Rinotsa’e ami’ty havandra ty vahe’ iareo, naho an-drano-panala o sakoa’ iareoo.
48 And he gave up their cattle to hail, and their substance to the fire.
Nengae’e amy havandray o añombe’ iareoo, vaho an-kelatse nibelabela o mpirai-tro’ iareoo.
49 He sent out against them the fury of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and affliction, a message by evil angels.
Nahitri’e am’iereo ty fiforoforoa’e; fifomboañe naho haviñerañe vaho hankàñe; firimboñan’ anjely mpandrotsake.
50 He made a way for his wrath; he spared not their souls from death, but consigned their cattle to death;
Nampimirae’e lalañe i haviñera’ey; tsy navotso’e am-pihomahañe ty fiai’iareo, fa napo’e ho zamanen-kiria ty havelo’ iareo
51 and struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt; the first fruits of their labors in the tents of Cham.
Binaibai’e ze hene tañoloñoloña’ i Mitsraime, ty lohan-kaozara’iareo an-kiboho’ i Kame ao.
52 And he removed his people like sheep; he led them as a flock in the wilderness.
Nonjone’e hoe añondry ondati’eo; vaho niaoloa’e mb’am-babangoañe añe hoe lia-raike.
53 And he guided them with hope, and they feared not: but the sea covered their enemies.
Nindese’e tsy nolañeñe, le tsy nihembañe iereo, vaho nampiopoe’ i riakey o rafelahio.
54 And he brought them in to the mountain of his sanctuary, this mountain which his right hand had purchased.
Nindese’e mb’an-tane’e miavake mb’eo, sikala’ami’ty vohitse vinilim-pità’e havana toy.
55 And he cast out the nations from before them, and made them to inherit by a line of inheritance, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
Rinoa’e aolo’ iareo ka o kilakila’ndatio; le zinara’e an-taly ty lova’ iareo, vaho nampitobea’e amo akiba’ iareoo o fifokoa’ Israeleo.
56 Yet they tempted and provoked the most high God, and kept not his testimonies.
F’ie nangala-pañahy naho niola aman’Añahare Andindimoneñe, vaho tsy nambena’ iereo o taro’eo;
57 And they turned back, and broke covenant, even as also their fathers: they became like a crooked bow.
Te mone nibalintoa naho nañorike ty tsy fatokisan-droae’ iareo; niolake hoe fale mibatriotse.
58 And they provoked him with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
Ie nikai-jaka ama’e amo tamboho’ iareo; vaho nampamarahy aze amo raham-pahasive’iareoo.
59 God heard and lightly regarded [them], and greatly despised Israel.
Nahajanjiñe t’i Andrianañahare le nifombo vaho niheje’e vintañe t’Israele.
60 And he rejected the tabernacle of Selom, his tent where he lived among men.
Le naforintse’e ty kivoho’e e Silo ao, i akiba nanoe’e himoneña’e añivo’ondatioy.
61 And he gave their strength into captivity, and their beauty into the enemy's hand.
Nasese’e mb’ am-pandrohizañe añe ty haozara’e, le am-pità’ o rafelahio ty enge’e.
62 And he gave his people to the sword; and disdained his inheritance.
Natolo’e ami’ty fibara ka ondati’eo, naha-fiforoforo Aze i lova’ey.
63 Fire devoured their young men; and their virgins mourned not.
Nabotse’ ty afo o ajalahi’eo; naho tsy nanan-tsabo haonjoñe o somondrara’eo.
64 Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows shall not be wept for.
Nampikorovohem-pibara o mpisoro’ iareoo, naho tsy nahafandala o remavoi’ iareoo.
65 So the Lord awaked as one out of sleep, [and] as a mighty man who has been heated with wine.
Nivañoñe amy zao t’i Talè hoe nirotse, manahake ty fanalolahy niopoen-divay.
66 And he struck his enemies in the hinder parts: he brought on them a perpetual reproach.
Nampipolie’e an-dafa o rafelahi’eo, le nametsaha’e hasalarañe tsy modo kitro katroke.
67 And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;
Mbore nifarie’e ty kivoho’ Iosefe; le tsy jinobo’e ty tarira’ i Efraime.
68 but chose the tribe of Juda, the mount Sion which he loved.
Fe ginene’e ty fifokoa’ Iehodà, i vohy Tsiône nikokoa’ey.
69 And he built his sanctuary as [the place] of unicorns; he founded it for ever on the earth.

70 He chose David also his servant, and took him up from the flocks of sheep.

71 He took him from following the ewes great with young, to be the shepherd of Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance.

72 So he tended them in the innocency of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
