Psalms 57
1 For the end. Destroy not: by David, for a memorial, when he fled from the presence of Saul to the cave. Have mercy, upon me, O God, have mercy upon me: for my soul has trusted in you: and in the shadow of your wings will I hope, until the iniquity have passed away.
Dem Musikmeister, nach (der Singweise = Melodie) »Vertilge nicht«; ein Lied Davids, als er vor Saul in die Höhle floh. Erbarme dich meiner, o Gott, erbarme dich meiner!
2 I will cry to God most high; the God who has benefited me. (Pause)
Ich rufe zu Gott, dem Höchsten, zum Allherrn, der meine Sache hinausführt.
3 He sent from heaven and saved me; he gave to reproach them that trampled on me: God has sent forth his mercy and his truth;
Er sendet vom Himmel und hilft mir, da der gierige Verfolger mich geschmäht hat! (SELA) Es sendet Gott seine Gnade und Treue!
4 and he has delivered my soul from the midst of [lions']whelps: I lay down to sleep, [though] troubled. [As for] the sons of men, their teeth are arms and [missile] weapons, and their tongue a sharp sword.
Mit meinem Leben liege ich mitten unter Löwen, inmitten haßerfüllter Feinde, unter Menschen, deren Zähne Speere und Pfeile und deren Zunge ein scharfes Schwert ist.
5 Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens; and your glory above all the earth.
Erhebe dich über den Himmel hinaus, o Gott, über die ganze Erde (verbreite sich) deine Herrlichkeit!
6 They have prepared snares for my feet, and have bowed down my soul: they have dug a pit before my face, and fallen into it [themselves]. (Pause)
Sie haben meinen Füßen ein Netz gestellt: meine Seele ist gebeugt; eine Grube haben sie vor mir gegraben: sie selbst sind mitten hineingestürzt. (SELA)
7 My heart, O God, [is] ready, my heart [is] ready: I will sing, yes will sing psalms.
Mein Herz ist getrost, o Gott, mein Herz ist getrost; singen will ich und spielen!
8 Awake, my glory; awake, lute and harp: I will awake early.
Wach auf, meine Seele, wacht auf, Harfe und Zither: ich will das Morgenrot wecken!
9 O Lord, I will give thanks to you among the nations: I will sing to you among the Gentiles.
Ich will dich preisen unter den Völkern, Allherr, ich will dir lobsingen unter den Völkerschaften!
10 For your mercy has been magnified even to the heavens, and your truth to the clouds.
Denn groß bis zum Himmel ist deine Gnade, und bis an die Wolken geht deine Treue.
11 Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens; and your glory above all the earth.
Erhebe dich über den Himmel hinaus, o Gott, über die ganze Erde (verbreite sich) deine Herrlichkeit!
