Psalms 46

1 For the end, for the sons of Core; a Psalm concerning secret things. God is our refuge and strength, a help in the afflictions that have come heavily upon us.

Voor muziekbegeleiding. Van de zonen van Kore. Met sopraanstemmen. Een lied. God is onze toevlucht en sterkte Een machtige hulp in de nood:

2 Therefore will we not fear when the earth is troubled, and the mountains are removed into the depths of the seas.

Dus vrezen wij niets, al wordt de aarde uit haar voegen gerukt, En schudden de bergen in het diepst van de zee;

3 Their waters have roared and been troubled, the mountains have been troubled by his might. (Pause)

Al bruisen en schuimen haar wateren, En rillen de bergen door haar geweld! Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!

4 The flowings of the river gladden the city of God: the Most High has sanctified his tabernacle.

Een vloed met zijn stromen brengt de Godsstad in vreugde, De heilige stede van den Allerhoogste.

5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her with his countenance.

God is daarbinnen, nooit zal zij wankelen; God zal haar helpen, als de dageraad komt:

6 The nations were troubled, the kingdoms tottered: he uttered his voice, the earth shook.

Al woeden de volken, al wankelen de staten, Al beeft de aarde door de stem van zijn donder!

7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our helper. (Pause)

Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!

8 Come, and behold the works of the Lord, what wonders he has achieved on the earth.

Komt dan, en ziet de werken van Jahweh, Die wonderen op de aarde wrocht:

9 Putting an end to wars as for the ends of the earth; he will crush the bow, and break in pieces the weapon, and burn the bucklers with fire.

Die de oorlogen bant buiten de grenzen der aarde, De bogen breekt, de lansen vernielt, de wagens verbrandt.

10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Houdt op! Erkent, dat Ik God ben, Hoog boven de volkeren, verheven op aarde!

11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our helper.

Jahweh der heirscharen is met ons, Onze burcht is Jakobs God!
