Numbers 14
1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried; and the people wept all that night.
Da erhob die ganze Gemeinde ein lautes Geschrei, und das Volk weinte in jener Nacht;
2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron; and all the congregation said to them,
alle Israeliten murrten über Mose und Aaron, und die ganze Gemeinde klagte vor ihnen: »Ach wären wir doch im Lande Ägypten gestorben! Oder wären wir doch hier in der Wüste gestorben!
3 Would we had died in the land of Egypt! or in this wilderness, would we had died! and why does the Lord bring us into this land to fall in war? our wives and our children shall be for a prey: now then it is better to return into Egypt.
Warum führt uns der HERR in dieses Land? Damit wir durch das Schwert fallen? Damit unsere Frauen und kleinen Kinder (den Feinden) zur Beute werden? Ist es nicht das Beste für uns, wir kehren nach Ägypten zurück?«
4 And they said one to another, Let us make a ruler, and return into Egypt.
Und sie sagten einer zum andern: »Wir wollen uns einen Anführer wählen und nach Ägypten zurückkehren!«
5 And Moses and Aaron fell upon their face before all the congregation of the children of Israel.
Da warfen sich Mose und Aaron vor der ganzen versammelten Gemeinde der Israeliten auf ihr Angesicht nieder.
6 But Joshua the [son] of Naue, and Chaleb the [son] of Jephonne, of [the number of] them that spied out the land, tore their garments,
Josua aber, der Sohn Nuns, und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, die zu denen gehörten, welche das Land ausgekundschaftet hatten, zerrissen ihre Kleider
7 and spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, The land which we surveyed is indeed extremely good.
und gaben vor der ganzen Gemeinde der Israeliten folgende Erklärung ab: »Das Land, das wir als Kundschafter durchzogen haben, ist ein außerordentlich schönes Land!
8 If the Lord choose us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
Wenn der HERR uns wohlwill, so wird er uns schon in dieses Land bringen und es uns geben, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig überfließt.
9 Only depart not from the Lord; and fear you not the people of the land, for they are meat for us; for the season [of prosperity] is departed from them, but the Lord [is] among us: fear them not.
Nur empört euch nicht gegen den HERRN und fürchtet euch ja nicht vor den Bewohnern des Landes! Denn wie einen Bissen Brot werden wir sie verspeisen. Der Schutz ihrer Götter ist von ihnen gewichen, aber mit uns ist der HERR: fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen!«
10 And all the congregation bade stone them with stones; and the glory of the Lord appeared in the cloud on the tabernacle of witness to all the children of Israel.
Als nun die ganze Gemeinde schon daran dachte, sie zu steinigen, erschien die Herrlichkeit des HERRN allen Israeliten am Offenbarungszelt;
11 And the Lord said to Moses, How long does this people provoke me? and how long do they refuse to believe me for all the signs which I have wrought among them?
und der HERR sagte zu Mose: »Wie lange will dieses Volk mich noch verhöhnen und wie lange noch mir kein Vertrauen schenken trotz aller Wunderzeichen, die ich unter ihnen getan habe?
12 I will strike them with death, and destroy them; and I will make of you and of your father's house a great nation, and much greater than this.
Ich will sie mit der Pest schlagen und sie ausrotten; dich aber will ich zu einem Volk machen, das größer und stärker ist als sie!«
13 And Moses said to the Lord, So Egypt shall hear, for you have brought up this people from them by your might.
Da erwiderte Mose dem HERRN: »Die Ägypter haben es vernommen, daß du dieses Volk mit deiner Kraft aus ihrer Mitte hergeführt hast,
14 Moreover all the dwellers upon this land have heard that you are Lord in the midst of this people, who, O Lord, are seen [by them] face to face, and your cloud rests upon them, and you go before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, and by night in a pillar of fire.
und man wird es auch den Bewohnern dieses Landes sagen, welche gehört haben, daß du, HERR, inmitten dieses Volkes weilst, daß du dich ihm Auge in Auge offenbarst und daß deine Wolke über ihnen steht und du in einer Wolkensäule bei Tage und in einer Feuersäule bei Nacht vor ihnen herziehst.
15 And [if] you shall destroy this nation as one man; then all the nations that have heard your name shall speak, saying,
Wenn du nun dieses Volk wie einen Mann tötest, so werden die Völkerschaften, welche die Kunde von dir vernommen haben, laut aussprechen:
16 Because the Lord could not bring this people into the land which he sware to them, he has overthrown them in the wilderness.
›Weil der HERR nicht imstande war, dieses Volk in das Land zu bringen, das er ihnen zugeschworen hatte, darum hat er sie in der Wüste abgeschlachtet!‹
17 And now, O Lord, let your strength be exalted, as you spoke, saying,
So möge sich denn jetzt deine Kraft, o HERR, groß erweisen, wie du es verheißen hast, als du sagtest:
18 The Lord [is] longsuffering and merciful, and true, removing transgressions and iniquities and sins, and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.
›Der HERR ist langmütig und reich an Gnade; er vergibt Unrecht und Übertretung, läßt aber auch den Schuldigen keineswegs ungestraft, sondern sucht die Schuld der Väter an den Kindern heim bis ins dritte und vierte Glied.‹
19 Forgive this people their sin according to your great mercy, as you were favourable to them from Egypt until now.
So vergib doch diesem Volk seine Schuld nach deiner großen Gnade und so, wie du diesem Volke von Ägypten an bis hierher verziehen hast!«
20 And the Lord said to Moses, I am gracious to them according to your word.
Da antwortete der HERR: »Ich habe ihm vergeben, wie du es erbeten hast.
21 But [as] I live and my name is living, so the glory of the Lord shall fill all the earth.
Aber wahrlich, so wahr ich lebe und so wahr die ganze Erde von der Herrlichkeit des HERRN erfüllt werden soll:
22 For all the men who see my glory, and the signs which I wrought in Egypt, and in the wilderness, and have tempted me this tenth time, and have not listened to my voice,
alle die Männer, die meine Herrlichkeit und meine Wunderzeichen, die ich in Ägypten und in der Wüste getan habe, gesehen und mich trotzdem nun schon zehnmal versucht und nicht auf meine Weisungen gehört haben –
23 surely they shall not see the land, which I sware to their fathers; but their children which are with me here, as many as know not good or evil, every inexperienced youth, to them will I give the land; but none who have provoked me shall see it.
sie sollen das Land, das ich ihren Vätern zugeschworen habe, nicht zu sehen bekommen! Nein, keiner von allen, die mich verhöhnt haben, soll es zu sehen bekommen!
24 But my servant Chaleb, because there was another spirit in him, and he followed me, I will bring him into the land into which he entered, and his seed shall inherit it.
Nur meinen Knecht Kaleb, der einen anderen Geist gezeigt und mir vollen Gehorsam bewiesen hat, den will ich in das Land bringen, das er schon einmal betreten hat, und seine Nachkommen sollen es besitzen;
25 But Amalec and the Chananite dwell in the valley: to-morrow turn and depart for the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.
die Amalekiter aber und die Kanaanäer bleiben in der Niederung wohnen! Morgen kehrt um und brecht nach der Wüste auf in der Richtung nach dem Schilfmeer zu!«
26 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,
Hierauf sagte der HERR zu Mose und Aaron:
27 How long [shall I endure] this wicked congregation? I have heard their murmurings against me, [even] the murmuring of the children of Israel, which they have murmured concerning you.
»Wie lange soll es noch dauern, daß diese nichtswürdige Gemeinde gegen mich murrt? Ich habe das Murren wohl gehört, das die Israeliten gegen mich erheben.
28 Say to them, [As] I live, says the Lord: surely as you spoke into my ears, so will I do to you.
Sage ihnen: ›So wahr ich lebe!‹ – so lautet der Ausspruch des HERRN –: ›Ich will es euch genau so ergehen lassen, wie ihr es laut vor meinen Ohren ausgesprochen habt!
29 Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all those of you that were reviewed, and those of you that were numbered from twenty years old and upward, all that murmured against me,
In der Wüste hier sollen eure Leiber tot hinfallen, und zwar ihr alle, die gemustert worden sind, ihr alle vollzählig von zwanzig Jahren an und darüber, die ihr gegen mich gemurrt habt.
30 you shall not enter into the land for which I stretched out my hand to establish you upon it; except only Chaleb the son of Jephonne, and Joshua the [son] of Naue.
Ihr sollt nimmermehr in das Land kommen, das ich euch durch einen Eid zum Wohnsitz zugesagt habe, keiner außer Kaleb, dem Sohne Jephunnes, und Josua, dem Sohne Nuns.
31 And your little ones, who you said should be a prey, them will I bring into the land; and they shall inherit the land, which you rejected.
Eure kleinen Kinder aber, von denen ihr gesagt habt, sie würden (den Feinden) zur Beute werden, die will ich hineinbringen, und sie sollen das Land kennen lernen, das ihr verschmäht habt;
32 And your carcases shall fall in this wilderness.
eure eigenen Leiber aber sollen in der Wüste hier tot hinfallen,
33 And your sons shall be fed in the wilderness forty years, and they shall bear your fornication, until your carcases be consumed in the wilderness.
und eure Söhne sollen vierzig Jahre lang als Hirten in der Wüste umherziehen und für euren treulosen Abfall von mir büßen, bis eure Leiber in der Wüste aufgerieben sind.
34 According to the number of the days during which you spied the land, forty days, a day for a year, you shall bear your sins forty years, and you shall know my fierce anger.
Nach der Zahl der vierzig Tage, in denen ihr das Land ausgekundschaftet habt – immer ein Tag für ein Jahr gerechnet –, sollt ihr vierzig Jahre lang für eure Verschuldungen büßen und sollt erfahren, was es auf sich hat, wenn ich mich von euch abwende!
35 I the Lord have spoken, Surely will I do thus to this evil congregation that has risen up together against me: in this wilderness they shall be utterly consumed, and there they shall die.
Ich, der HERR, habe es ausgesprochen! Wahrlich, so will ich mit dieser ganzen nichtswürdigen Gemeinde verfahren, die sich gegen mich zusammengerottet hat: in der Wüste hier sollen sie aufgerieben werden, und hier sollen sie sterben!‹«
36 And the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land, and who came and murmured against it to the assembly so as to bring out evil words concerning the land, —
Die Männer aber, die Mose zur Auskundschaftung des Landes ausgesandt hatte und die nach ihrer Rückkehr die ganze Gemeinde zum Murren gegen ihn durch ihren ungünstigen Bericht über das Land verleitet hatten –
37 the men that spoke evil reports against the land, even died of the plague before the Lord.
diese Männer, die über das Land ungünstig berichtet hatten, starben eines plötzlichen Todes vor dem HERRN.
38 And Joshua the son of Naue and Chaleb the son of Jephonne [still] lived of those men that went to spy out the land.
Nur Josua, der Sohn Nuns, und Kaleb, der Sohn Jephunnes, blieben am Leben von jenen Männern, die zur Auskundschaftung des Landes ausgezogen waren.
39 And Moses spoke these words to all the children of Israel; and the people mourned exceedingly.
Als nun Mose diese Drohworte des HERRN allen Israeliten mitgeteilt hatte, da geriet das Volk in tiefe Betrübnis.
40 And they rose early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Behold, we that are here will go up to the place of which the Lord has spoken, because we have sinned.
Sie machten sich also am andern Morgen in der Frühe fertig, auf die Höhe des Gebirges hinaufzuziehen, und sagten: »Wir sind jetzt bereit, in die Gegend hinaufzuziehen, von welcher der HERR geredet hat; denn wir haben gesündigt.«
41 And Moses said, Why do you transgress the word of the Lord? you shall not prosper.
Aber Mose antwortete: »Warum wollt ihr doch den Befehl des HERRN übertreten? Das wird euch nicht gelingen!
42 Go not up, for the Lord is not with you; so shall you fall before the face of your enemies.
Zieht ja nicht hinauf, denn der HERR ist nicht in eurer Mitte; ihr werdet sonst von euren Feinden geschlagen werden;
43 For Amalec and the Chananite [are] there before you, and you shall fall by the sword; because you have disobeyed the Lord and turned aside, and the Lord will not be among you.
denn die Amalekiter und Kanaanäer stehen euch dort gegenüber, und ihr werdet durch das Schwert fallen: durch euren Abfall vom HERRN habt ihr nun einmal verschuldet, daß der HERR nicht mit euch sein wird!«
44 And having forced their passage, they went up to the top of the mountain; but the ark of the covenant of the Lord and Moses stirred not out of the camp.
Trotzdem blieben sie in ihrer Vermessenheit dabei, auf die Höhe des Gebirges hinaufzuziehen; doch die Lade mit dem Bundesgesetz des HERRN und Mose verließen das Innere des Lagers nicht.
45 And Amalec and the Chananite that lived in that mountain came down, and routed them, and destroyed them to Herman; and they returned to the camp.
Da kamen die Amalekiter und Kanaanäer, die in jenem Gebirge wohnten, herab, schlugen sie und zersprengten sie bis Horma.
