Job 1
1 There was a certain man in the land of Ausis, whose name [was] Job; and than man was true, blameless, righteous, [and] godly, abstaining from everything evil.
ঊষ দেশে একজন লোক বসবাস করতেন, যাঁর নাম ইয়োব। তিনি ছিলেন অনিন্দনীয় ও ন্যায়পরায়ণ; তিনি ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করতেন এবং কুকর্ম এড়িয়ে চলতেন।
2 And he had seven sons and three daughters.
তাঁর সাত ছেলে ও তিন মেয়ে ছিল,
3 And his cattle consisted of seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred she-asses in the pastures, and a very great household, and he had a great husbandry on the earth; and that man was [most] noble of the [men] of the east.
এবং 7,000 মেষ, 3,000 উট, 500 জোড়া বলদ, 500 গাধি ও প্রচুর সংখ্যক দাস-দাসী তাঁর মালিকানাধীন ছিল। প্রাচ্যদেশীয় সব লোকজনের মধ্যে তিনিই ছিলেন সবচেয়ে ধনী মানুষ।
4 And his sons visiting one another prepared a banquet every day, taking with them also their three sisters to eat and drink with them.
তাঁর ছেলেরা পালা করে তাদের জন্মদিনে নিজেদের বাড়িতে ভোজের আয়োজন করত, এবং তাদের তিন বোনকেও তারা তাদের সঙ্গে ভোজনপান করার জন্য নিমন্ত্রণ করত।
5 And when the days of the banquet were completed, Job sent and purified them, having risen up in the morning, and offered sacrifices for them, according to their number, and one calf for a sin-offering for their souls: for Job said, Lest perhaps my sons have thought evil in their minds against God. Thus, then Job did continually.
ভোজপর্ব শেষ হয়ে যাওয়ার পর, ইয়োব তাদের শুচিশুদ্ধ করার ব্যবস্থা করতেন। ভোরবেলায় তাদের প্রত্যেকের জন্য তিনি এই ভেবে হোমবলি উৎসর্গ করতেন যে, “হয়তো আমার সন্তানেরা পাপ করেছে ও মনে মনে ঈশ্বরকে অভিশাপ দিয়ে বসেছে।” এই ছিল ইয়োবের বহুদিনের নিয়মিত অভ্যাস।
6 And it came to pass on a day, that behold, the angels of God came to stand before the Lord, and the devil came with them.
একদিন স্বর্গদূতেরা সদাপ্রভুর সামনে নিজেদের উপস্থিত করার জন্য এলেন, এবং শয়তানও তাদের সঙ্গে এল।
7 And the Lord said to the devil, Whence are you come? And the devil answered the Lord, and said, I am come from compassing the earth, and walking up and down in the world.
সদাপ্রভু শয়তানকে বললেন, “তুমি কোথা থেকে এলে?” শয়তান সদাপ্রভুকে উত্তর দিল, “পৃথিবীর সর্বত্র এদিক-ওদিক ঘোরাফেরা করে এলাম।”
8 And the Lord said to him, Hast you diligently considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a man blameless, true, godly, abstaining from everything evil?
পরে সদাপ্রভু শয়তানকে বললেন, “আমার দাস ইয়োবের দিকে কি তোমার নজর পড়েছে? পৃথিবীতে তার মতো আর কেউ নেই; সে অনিন্দনীয় ও ন্যায়পরায়ণ এমন এক মানুষ, যে ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করে এবং কুকর্ম এড়িয়ে চলে।”
9 Then the devil answered, and said before the Lord, Does Job worship the Lord for nothing?
“ইয়োব কি বিনা স্বার্থে ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করে?” শয়তান উত্তর দিল
10 Hast you not made a hedge about him, and about his household, and all his possessions round about? and have you not blessed the works of his hands, and multiplied his cattle upon the land?
“তুমি কি তার চারপাশে এবং তার পরিবারের ও তার সবকিছুর চারপাশে বেড়া দিয়ে রাখোনি? তুমি তার হাতের কাজে আশীর্বাদ করেছ, যেন তার মেষপাল ও পশুপাল দেশের সর্বত্র ছড়িয়ে পড়ে।
11 But put forth your hand, and touch all that he has: verily he will bless you to [your] face.
কিন্তু এখন তোমার হাত বাড়াও এবং তার কাছে থাকা সবকিছুকে আঘাত করো, আর সে নিশ্চয় তোমার মুখের উপরেই তোমাকে অভিশাপ দেবে।”
12 Then the Lord said to the devil, Behold, I give into your hand all that he has, but touch not himself. So the devil went out from the presence of the Lord.
সদাপ্রভু শয়তানকে বললেন, “ঠিক আছে, তবে তার সবকিছুর উপরে তোমার অধিকার থাকল, কিন্তু স্বয়ং সেই লোকটির উপরে তুমি হস্তক্ষেপ কোরো না।” পরে শয়তান সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে চলে গেল।
13 And it came to pass on a certain day, that Job's sons and his daughters were drinking wine in the house of their elder brother.
একদিন ইয়োবের ছেলেমেয়েরা যখন তাদের বড়দাদার বাড়িতে খাওয়াদাওয়া করছিল ও দ্রাক্ষারস পান করছিল,
14 And, behold, there came a messenger to Job, and said to him, The yokes of oxen were plowing, and the she-asses were feeding near them;
তখন ইয়োবের কাছে এক দূত এসে বলল, “বলদেরা জমি চাষ করছিল ও পাশেই গাধারা চরছিল,
15 and the spoilers came and took them for a prey, and killed the servants with the sword; and I having escaped alone am come to tell you.
আর শিবায়ীয়েরা এসে আক্রমণ করে সেগুলি নিয়ে চলে গেল। তারা তরোয়াল চালিয়ে দাসদের মেরে ফেলল, এবং একমাত্র আমিই আপনাকে এই খবর দেওয়ার জন্য পালিয়ে আসতে পেরেছি!”
16 While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, Fire has fallen from heaven, and burnt up the sheep, and devoured the shepherds like wise; and I having escaped alone am come to tell you.
সে তখনও কথা বলছিল, ইতিমধ্যে আর এক দূত এসে বলল, “আকাশ থেকে ঈশ্বরের আগুন নেমে এসে মেষপাল ও দাসদের পুড়িয়ে ছারখার করে দিল, আর একমাত্র আমিই আপনাকে এই খবর দেওয়ার জন্য পালিয়ে আসতে পেরেছি!”
17 While he was yet speaking, there came another messenger, and said to Job, The horsemen formed three companies against us, and surrounded the camels, and took them for a prey, and killed the servants with the sword; and I only escaped, and am come to tell you.
সে তখনও কথা বলছিল, ইতিমধ্যে আর এক দূত এসে বলল, “কলদীয়রা তিনটি হানাদার দল গড়ে এসে আপনার উটগুলির উপর আক্রমণ চালাল ও সেগুলি নিয়ে চলে গেল। তারা তরোয়াল চালিয়ে দাসদের মেরে ফেলল, আর একমাত্র আমিই আপনাকে এই খবর দেওয়ার জন্য পালিয়ে আসতে পেরেছি!”
18 While he is yet speaking, another messenger comes, saying to Job, While your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking with their elder brother,
সে তখনও কথা বলছিল, ইতিমধ্যে আর এক দূত এসে বলল, “আপনার ছেলেমেয়েরা তাদের বড়দাদার বাড়িতে বসে খাওয়াদাওয়া করছিল ও দ্রাক্ষারস পান করছিল,
19 suddenly a great wind came on from the desert, and caught the four corners of the house, and the house fell upon your children, and they are dead; and I have escaped alone, and am come to tell you.
এমন সময় হঠাৎ করে মরুভূমি থেকে প্রচণ্ড এক ঝড় এসে আছড়ে পড়ল এবং সেই বাড়ির চার কোনায় আঘাত হানল। সেই বাড়িটি তাদের উপরে ভেঙে পড়ল ও তারা মারা গেল, আর একমাত্র আমিই আপনাকে এই খবর দেওয়ার জন্য পালিয়ে আসতে পেরেছি!”
20 So Job arose, and tore his garments, and shaved the hair of his head, and fell on the earth, and worshipped,
একথা শুনে, ইয়োব উঠে দাঁড়ালেন এবং তাঁর পোশাক ছিঁড়ে ফেললেন ও তাঁর মাথা কামিয়ে ফেললেন। পরে মাটিতে লুটিয়ে পড়ে তিনি আরাধনা করে
21 and said, I myself came forth naked from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return there; the Lord gave, the Lord has taken away: as it seemed good to the Lord, so has it come to pass; blessed be the name of the Lord.
বললেন: “মায়ের গর্ভ থেকে আমি উলঙ্গ হয়ে এসেছি, আর উলঙ্গ অবস্থাতেই আমি চলে যাব। সদাপ্রভু দিয়েছেন আর সদাপ্রভুই ফিরিয়ে নিয়েছেন; সদাপ্রভুর নাম প্রশংসিত হোক।”
22 In all these events that befell him Job sinned not at all before the Lord, and did not impute folly to God.
এসব কিছুতে, ইয়োব অন্যায়াচরণের দোষে ঈশ্বরকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করে পাপ করলেন না।
