Job 38
1 And after Elius had ceased from speaking, the Lord spoke to Job through the whirlwind and clouds, [saying],
Y respondió Jehová a Job desde la oscuridad, y dijo:
2 Who is this that hides counsel from me, and confines words in [his] heart, and thinks to conceal [them] from me?
¿Quién es este que oscurece el consejo con palabras sin sabiduría?
3 Gird your loins like a man; and I will ask you, and do you answer me.
Ahora ciñe como varón tus lomos: preguntarte he, y me harás saber.
4 Where was you when I founded the earth? tell me now, if you have knowledge,
¿Dónde estabas tú, cuando yo fundaba la tierra? házme lo saber, si tienes inteligencia.
5 who set the measures of it, if you know? or who stretched a line upon it?
¿Quién ordenó sus medidas, si lo sabes? ¿o quién extendió sobre ella cordel?
6 On what are its rings fastened? and who is he that laid the corner-stone upon it?
¿Sobre qué están fundadas sus basas? ¿o quién puso su piedra esquinada,
7 When the stars were made, all my angels praised me with a loud voice.
Cuando todas las estrellas del alba alababan, y jubilaban todos los hijos de Dios?
8 And I shut up the sea with gates, when it rushed out, coming forth out its mother's womb.
¿Quién encerró con puertas la mar, cuando rebentó del vientre saliendo?
9 And I made a cloud its clothing, and swathed it in mist.
¿Cuándo puse nubes por su vestidura, y por su faja oscuridad?
10 And I set bounds to it, surrounding it with bars and gates.
Y determiné sobre ella mi decreto, y le puse puertas y cerrojo,
11 And I said to it, Hitherto shall you come, but you shall not go beyond, but your waves shall be confined within you.
Y dije: Hasta aquí vendrás, y no pasarás adelante; y allí parará la hinchazón de tus ondas.
12 Or did I order the morning light in your time; and [did] the morning star [then first] see his appointed place;
¿Has tú mandado a la mañana en tus días? ¿has mostrado al alba su lugar,
13 to lay hold of the extremities of the earth, to cast out the ungodly out of it?
Para que asga los fines de la tierra, y que sean sacudidos de ella los impíos?
14 Or did you take clay of the ground, and form a living creature, and set it with the power of speech upon the earth?
Trasmudándose como lodo de sello; y parándose como vestidura:
15 And have you removed light from the ungodly, and crushed the arm of the proud?
Mas la luz de los impíos es quitada de ellos; y el brazo enaltecido es quebrantado.
16 Or have you gone to the source of the sea, and walked in the tracks of the deep?
¿Has tú entrado hasta los profundos de la mar, y has andado escudriñando el abismo?
17 And do the gates of death open to you for fear; and did the porters of hell quake when they saw you? (questioned)
¿Te han sido descubiertas las puertas de la muerte? ¿y has visto las puertas de la sombra de muerte?
18 And have you been instructed in the breadth of the [whole earth] under heaven? tell me now, what is the extent of it?
¿Has tú considerado hasta las anchuras de la tierra? Declara, si sabes todo esto.
19 And in what kind of a land does the light dwell? and of what kind is the place of darkness?
¿Por dónde va el camino a la habitación de la luz? ¿y el lugar de las tinieblas, donde es?
20 If you could bring me to their [utmost] boundaries, and if also you know their paths;
¿Si la tomarás tú en sus términos? ¿y si entenderás las sendas de su casa?
21 I know then that you were born at that time, and the number of your years is great.
¿Si sabías tú cuándo habías de nacer? ¿y si el número de tus días había de ser grande?
22 But have you gone to the treasures of snow? and have you seen the treasures of hail?
¿Has tú entrado en los tesoros de la nieve? ¿y has visto los tesoros del granizo,
23 And is there a store [of them], for you against the time of [your] enemies, for the day of wars and battle?
Lo cual yo he guardado para el tiempo de la angustia, para el día de la guerra, y de la batalla?
24 And whence proceeds the frost? or [whence] is the south wind dispersed over the [whole world] under heaven?
¿Cuál sea el camino por donde se reparte la luz; por donde se esparce el viento solano sobre la tierra?
25 And who prepared a course for the violent rain, and a way for the thunders;
¿Quién repartió conducto al turbión; y camino a los relámpagos y truenos;
26 to rain upon the land where [there is] no man, the wilderness, where there is not a man in it; so as to feed the untrodden and uninhabited [land],
Haciendo llover sobre la tierra deshabitada; sobre el desierto, donde no hay hombre;
27 and cause it to send forth a crop of green herbs?
Para hartar la tierra desierta; e inculta; y para hacer producir verdura de renuevos?
28 Who is the rain's father? and who has generated the drops of dew?
¿Tiene la lluvia padre? ¿o quién engendró las gotas del rocío?
29 And out of whose womb comes the ice? and who has produced the frost in the sky,
¿De vientre de quién salió el hielo? ¿y la helada del cielo, quién la engendró?
30 which descends like flowing water? who has terrified the face of the ungodly?
Las aguas se tornan a manera de piedra, y la haz del abismo se aprieta.
31 And do you understand the band of Pleias, and have you opened the barrier of Orion?
¿Detendrás tú los deleites de las Pléyades? ¿o desatarás las ataduras del Orión?
32 Or will you reveal Mazuroth in his season, and the evening star with his rays? Will you guide them?
¿Sacarás tú a su tiempo los signos de los cielos? ¿o guiarás el Arcturo con sus hijos?
33 And know you the changes of heaven, or the events which take place together under heaven?
¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿Dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra?
34 And will you call a cloud with your voice, and will it obey you with a violent shower of much rain?
¿Alzarás tú a las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra multitud de aguas?
35 And will you send lightnings, and they shall go? and shall they say to you, What is [your pleasure]?
¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿y diránte ellos a ti: Hénos aquí?
36 And who has given to women skill in weaving, or knowledge of embroidery?
¿Quién puso la sabiduría en los riñones? ¿o quién dio al entendimiento la inteligencia?
37 And who is he that numbers the clouds in wisdom, and has bowed the heaven [down] to the earth?
¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? ¿y los odres de los cielos, quién los hizo parar,
38 For it is spread out as dusty earth, and I have cemented it as one hewn stone to another.
Cuando el polvo se ha endurecido con dureza, y los terrones se pegaron unos a otros?
39 And will you hunt a prey for the lions? and satisfy the desires of the serpents?
¿Cazarás tú la presa para el león? ¿y henchirás la hambre de los leoncillos,
40 For they fear in their lairs, and lying in wait couch in the woods.
Cuando están echados en las cuevas, y se están en sus cabañas para asechar?
41 And who has prepared food for the raven? for its young ones wander and cry to the Lord, in search of food.
¿Quién preparó al cuervo su caza, cuando sus pollos dan voces a Dios, perdidos sin comida?
