Esias 34

1 Draw near, you nations; and listen, you princes; let the earth hear, and they that are in it; the world, and the people that are therein.

Approchez-vous, nations, pour écouter, et vous peuples, soyez attentifs; que la terre et tout ce qui est en elle, écoute; que le monde habitable et tout ce qui y est produit, [écoute];

2 For the wrath of the Lord is upon all nations, and [his] anger upon the number of them, to destroy them, and give them up to slaughter.

Car l'indignation de l'Eternel est sur toutes ces nations, et sa fureur sur toute leur armée; il les a mises à l'interdit, il les a livrées pour être tuées.

3 And their slain shall be cast forth, and their corpses; and their [ill] savor shall come up, and the mountains shall be made wet with their blood.

Leurs blessés à mort seront jetés là, et la puanteur de leurs corps morts se répandra, et les montagnes découleront de leur sang.

4 And all the powers of the heavens shall melt, and the sky shall be rolled up like a scroll: and all the stars shall fall like leaves from a vine, and as leaves fall from a fig tree.

Et toute l'armée des cieux se fondra, et les cieux seront mis en rouleau comme un livre, et toute leur armée tombera, comme tombe la feuille de la vigne, et comme tombe celle du figuier.

5 My sword has been made drunk in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and with judgment upon the people doomed to destruction.

Parce que mon épée est enivrée dans les cieux, voici, elle descendra en jugement contre Edom, et contre le peuple que j'ai mis à l'interdit.

6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is glutted with fat, with the blood of goats and lambs, and with the fat of goats and rams: for the Lord has a sacrifice in Bosor, and a great slaughter in Idumea.

L'épée de l'Eternel est pleine de sang; elle s'est engraissée de sa graisse et du sang des agneaux, et des boucs, et de la graisse des rognons de moutons; car il y a un sacrifice à l'Eternel dans Botsra, et une grande tuerie au pays d'Edom.

7 And the mighty ones shall fall with them, and the rams and the bulls; and the land shall be soaked with blood, and shall be filled with their fat.

Et les licornes descendront avec eux, et les veaux avec les taureaux; leur terre sera enivrée de sang, et leur poussière sera engraissée de graisse.

8 For it is the day of judgment of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgment.

Car il y a un jour de vengeance à l'Eternel, et une année de rétribution pour maintenir le droit de Sion.

9 And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day;

Et ses torrents seront changés en poix, et sa poussière en soufre, et sa terre deviendra de la poix ardente.

10 and it shall never be quenched, and her smoke shall go up: it shall be made desolate throughout her generations,

Elle ne sera point éteinte ni nuit ni jour; sa fumée montera éternellement, elle sera désolée de génération en génération; il n'y aura personne qui passe par elle à jamais.

11 and for a long time birds and hedgehogs, and ibises and ravens shall dwell in it: and the measuring line of desolation shall be cast over it, and satyrs shall dwell in it.

Et le cormoran et le butor la posséderont, le hibou et le corbeau y habiteront; et on étendra sur elle la ligne de confusion, et le niveau de désordre.

12 Her princes shall be no more; for her kings and her great men shall be destroyed.

Ses magistrats crieront qu'il n'y a plus là de Royaume, et tous ses gouverneurs seront réduits à rien.

13 And thorns shall spring up in their cities, and in her strong holds: and they shall be habitations of monsters, and a court of ostriches.

Les épines croîtront dans ses palais, les chardons et les buissons dans ses forteresses, et elle sera le repaire des dragons, et le parvis des chats-huants.

14 And devils shall meet with satyrs, and they shall cry one to the other: there shall satyrs rest, having found for themselves [a place of] rest.

[Là] les bêtes sauvages des déserts rencontreront les [bêtes sauvages des] Iles, et la chouette criera à sa compagne; là même se posera l'orfraie, et y trouvera son repos.

15 There has the hedgehog made its nest, and the earth has safely preserved its young: there have the deer met, and seen one another's faces.

Là le martinet fera son nid, il y couvera, il y éclôra, et il recueillera [ses petits] sous son ombre; et là aussi seront assemblés les vautours l'un avec l'autre.

16 They passed by in [full] number, and not one of them perished: they sought not one another; for the Lord commanded them, and his Spirit gathered them.

Recherchez au Livre de l'Eternel, et lisez: il ne s'en est pas manqué un seul point; celle-là ni sa compagne n'y ont point manqué; car c'est ma bouche qui l'a commandé, et son Esprit est celui qui les aura assemblés.

17 And he shall cast lots for them, and his hand has portioned out [their] pasture, [saying], You shall inherit [the land] for ever: they shall rest on it [through] all generations.

Car il leur a jeté le sort, et sa main leur a distribué cette terre au cordeau; ils la posséderont à toujours, ils y habiteront d'âge en âge.
