Genesis 38

1 And it came to pass at that time that Judas went down from his brethren, and came as far as to a certain man of Odollam, whose name was Iras.

Y aconteció en aquel tiempo, que Judá descendió de con sus hermanos, y fuése a un varón Odollamita, que se llamaba Hira.

2 And Judas saw there the daughter of a Chananitish man, whose name was Sava; and he took her, and went in to her.

Y vio allí Judá una hija de un hombre Cananeo, el cual se llamaba Sua: y tomóla, y entró a ella.

3 And she conceived and bore a son, and called his name, Er.

La cual concibió, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Her.

4 And she conceived and bore a son again; and called his name, Aunan.

Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Onán.

5 And she again bore a son; and called his name, Selom: and she was in Chasbi when she bore them.

Y tornó otra vez a concebir, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Sela. Y estaba en Chezib cuando le parió.

6 And Judas took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Thamar.

Y Judá tomó mujer a su primogénito Her, la cual se llamaba Tamar.

7 And Er, the firstborn of Judas, was wicked before the Lord; and God killed him.

Y Her, el primogénito de Judá, fue malo en los ojos de Jehová; y matóle Jehová.

8 And Judas said to Aunan, Go in to your brother's wife, and marry her as her brother-in-law, and raise up seed to your brother.

Entonces Judá dijo a Onán: Entra a la mujer de tu hermano, y haz parentesco con ella, y levanta simiente a tu hermano.

9 And Aunan, knowing that the seed should not be his—it came to pass when he went in to his brother's wife, that he spilled [it] upon the ground, so that he should not give seed to his brother's wife.

Y sabiendo Onán que la simiente no había de ser suya, era que cuando entraba a la mujer de su hermano corrompía en tierra, por no dar simiente a su hermano.

10 And his doing this appeared evil before God; and he killed him also.

Y desagradó en ojos de Jehová lo que hacía, y matóle también a él.

11 And Judas said to Thamar, his daughter-in-law, Sit you a widow in the house of your father-in-law, until Selom my son be grown; for he said, lest he also die as his brethren; and Thamar departed, and sat in the house of her father.

Y Judá dijo a Tamar su nuera: Estáte viuda en casa de tu padre, hasta que crezca Sela mi hijo; porque dijo: Que quizá no muera él también como sus hermanos. Y fuése Tamar, y estúvose en casa de su padre.

12 And the days were fulfilled, and Sava the wife of Judas died; and Judas, being comforted, went to them that sheared his sheep, himself and Iras his Shepherd the Odollamite, to Thamna.

Y pasaron muchos días, y murió la hija de Sua, mujer de Judá: y Judá se consoló: y subió a los trasquiladores de sus ovejas él e Hira, su amigo Odollamita, a Tamnas.

13 And it was told Thamar his daughter-in-law, saying, Behold, your father-in-law goes up to Thamna, to shear his sheep.

Y fue dado aviso a Tamar, diciendo: He aquí tu suegro sube a Tamnas a trasquilar sus ovejas.

14 And having taken off the garments of her widowhood from her, she put on a veil, and ornamented her face, and sat by the gates of Aenan, which is in the way to Thamna, for she saw that Selom was grown; but he gave her not to him for a wife.

Entonces ella quitó de sobre sí los vestidos de su viudez, y cubrióse con un velo; y arrebozóse, y púsose a la puerta de las aguas que están junto al camino de Tamnas; porque veía que había crecido Sela, y ella no era dada a él por mujer.

15 And when Judas saw her, he thought her to be a harlot; for she covered her face, and he knew her not.

Y vióla Judá, y túvola por ramera; porque ella había cubierto su rostro.

16 And he went out of his way to her, and said to her, Let me come in to you; for he knew not that she was his daughter-in-law; and she said, What will you give me if you should come in to me?

Y apartóse del camino hacia ella, y díjola: Ea pues, ahora yo entraré a ti: Porque no sabía que era su nuera. Y ella dijo: ¿Qué me has de dar, si entrares a mí?

17 And he said, I will send you a kid of the goats from my flock; and she said, [Well], if you will give me an earnest, until you send it.

El respondió: Yo te enviaré de las ovejas un cabrito de las cabras. Y ella dijo: Hásme de dar prenda hasta que lo envíes.

18 And he said, What is the earnest that I shall give you? and she said, Your ring, and your bracelet, and the staff in your hand; and he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.

Entonces él dijo: ¿Qué prenda te daré? Ella respondió: Tu anillo, y tu manto, y tu bordón que tienes en tu mano. Y él se lo dió; y entró a ella, la cual concibió de él.

19 And she arose and departed, and took her veil from off her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

Y levantóse y fuése: y quitóse el velo de sobre sí, y vistióse las ropas de su viudez.

20 And Judas sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his shepherd the Odollamite, to receive the pledge from the woman; and he found her not.

Y Judá envió el cabrito de las cabras por mano de su amigo el Odollamita, para que tomase la prenda de mano de la mujer: y no la halló.

21 And he asked the men of the place, Where is the harlot who was in Aenan by the wayside? and they said, There was no harlot here.

Y preguntó a los hombres de aquel lugar, diciendo: ¿Dónde está la ramera de las aguas junto al camino? Y ellos le dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera.

22 And he returned to Judas, and said, I have not found her; and the men of the place say, There is no harlot here.

Entonces él se volvió a Judá, y dijo: No la hallé: y también los hombres del lugar dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera.

23 And Judas said, Let her have them, but let us not be ridiculed; I sent this kid, but you have not found her.

Y Judá dijo: Tómeselo para sí, porque no seamos menospreciados: he aquí, yo he enviado este cabrito, y tú no la hallaste.

24 And it came to pass after three months, that it was told Judas, saying, Thamar your daughter-in-law has grievously played the harlot, and behold she is with child by whoredom; and Judas said, Bring her out, and let her be burnt.

Y fue que como desde a tres meses, fue dado aviso a Judá, diciendo: Tamar tu nuera ha fornicado, y aun cierto está preñada de las fornicaciones. Y Judá dijo: Sacádla, y sea quemada.

25 And as they were bringing her, she sent to her father-in-law, saying, I am with child by the man whose these things are; and she said, See whose is this ring and bracelet and staff.

Y ella, cuando la sacaban, envió a decir a su suegro: Del varón cuyas son estas cosas, estoy preñada. Y dijo más: Conoce ahora cuyas son estas cosas, el anillo, y el manto, y el bordón.

26 And Judas knew [them], and said, Thamar is cleared rather than I, forasmuch as I gave her not to Selom my son: and he knew her not again.

Entonces Judá lo conoció, y dijo: Más justa es que yo, por cuanto no la he dado a Sela mi hijo. Y nunca más la conoció.

27 And it came to pass when she was in labor, that she also had twins in her womb.

Y aconteció que al tiempo de parir, he aquí, mellizos en su vientre.

28 And it came to pass as she was bringing forth, one thrust forth his hand, and the midwife having taken hold of it, bound upon his hand a scarlet [thread], saying, This one shall come out first.

Y fue que cuando paría, dio la mano el uno, y la partera tomólo, y ató a su mano un hilo de grana, diciendo: Este salió primero.

29 And when he drew back his hand, then immediately came forth his brother; and she said, Why has the barrier been cut through because of you? and she called his name, Phares.

Y aconteció que tornando él a meter la mano, he aquí, su hermano salió, y dijo: ¿Por qué has rompido sobre ti rotura? Y llamó su nombre Fares.

30 And after this came forth his brother, on whose hand was the scarlet thread; and she called his name, Zara.

Y después salió su hermano el que tenía en su mano el hilo de grana, y llamó su nombre Zara.
