Genesis 11
1 And all the earth was one lip, and there was one language to all.
Es hatte aber die ganze Erdbevölkerung eine einzige Sprache und einerlei Worte.
2 And it came to pass as they moved from the east, they found a plain in the land of Senaar, and they lived there.
Als sie nun nach Osten hin zogen, fanden sie eine Tiefebene im Lande Sinear und blieben dort wohnen.
3 And a man said to his neighbor, Come, let us make bricks and bake them with fire. And the brick was to them for stone, and their mortar was bitumen.
Da sagten sie zueinander: »Auf! Wir wollen Ziegel streichen und sie im Feuer hart brennen!« So dienten ihnen denn die Ziegel als Bausteine, und das Erdharz diente ihnen als Mörtel.
4 And they said, Come, let us build to ourselves a city and tower, whose top shall be to heaven, and let us make to ourselves a name, before we are scattered abroad upon the face of all the earth.
Dann sagten sie: »Auf! Wir wollen uns eine Stadt und einen Turm bauen, dessen Spitze bis in den Himmel reichen soll, und wollen uns einen Namen schaffen, damit wir uns nicht über die ganze Erde hin zerstreuen!«
5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men built.
Da fuhr der HERR herab, um sich die Stadt und den Turm anzusehen, welche die Menschen erbauten.
6 And the Lord said, Behold, [there is] one race, and one lip of all, and they have begun to do this, and now nothing shall fail from them of all that they may have undertaken to do.
Da sagte der HERR: »Fürwahr, sie sind ein einziges Volk und haben alle dieselbe Sprache, und dies ist erst der Anfang ihres Unternehmens: hinfort wird ihnen nichts mehr unausführbar sein, was sie sich vornehmen.
7 Come, and having gone down let us there confound their tongue, that they may not understand each the voice of his neighbor.
Auf! wir wollen hinabfahren und ihre Sprache dort verwirren, so daß keiner mehr die Sprache des andern versteht!«
8 And the Lord scattered them thence over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city and the tower.
So zerstreute sie denn der HERR von dort über die ganze Erde, so daß sie den Bau der Stadt aufgeben mußten.
9 On this account its name was called Confusion, because there the Lord confounded the languages of all the earth, and thence the Lord scattered them upon the face of all the earth.
Daher gab man der Stadt den Namen Babel; denn dort hat der HERR die Sprache der ganzen Erdbevölkerung verwirrt und sie von dort über die ganze Erde zerstreut.
10 And these [are] the generations of Sem: and Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, the second year after the flood.
Dies ist der Stammbaum Sems: Als Sem 100 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm Arpachsad geboren, zwei Jahre nach der Sintflut.
11 And Sem lived, after he had begotten Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Arpachsads aber lebte Sem noch 500 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
12 And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and begot Cainan.
Als Arpachsad 35 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Selahs.
13 And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Cainan, four hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died. And Cainan lived a hundred and thirty years and begot Sala; and Canaan lived after he had begotten Sala, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Selahs lebte Arpachsad noch 403 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
14 And Sala lived an hundred and thirty years, and begot Heber.
Als Selah 30 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Eber geboren.
15 And Sala lived after he had begotten Heber, three hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Ebers lebte Selah noch 403 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
16 And Heber lived an hundred and thirty-four years, and begot Phaleg.
Als Eber 34 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Peleg geboren.
17 And Heber lived after he had begotten Phaleg two hundred and seventy years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Pelegs lebte Eber noch 430 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
18 And Phaleg lived and hundred and thirty years, and begot Ragau.
Als Peleg 30 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Rehu geboren.
19 And Phaleg lived after he had begotten Ragau, two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Rehus lebte Peleg noch 209 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
20 And Ragau lived and hundred thirty and two years, and begot Seruch.
Als Rehu 32 Jahre alt war, wurde ihm sein Sohn Serug geboren.
21 And Raau lived after he had begotten Seruch, two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Serugs lebte Rehu noch 207 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
22 And Seruch lived a hundred and thirty years, and begot Nachor.
Als Serug 30 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Nahors.
23 And Seruch lived after he had begotten Nachor, two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.
Nach der Geburt Nahors lebte Serug noch 200 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
24 And Nachor lived a hundred and seventy-nine years, and begot Tharrha.
Als Nahor 29 Jahre alt war, wurde er der Vater Tharahs.
25 And Nachor lived after he had begotten Tharrha, an hundred and twenty-five years, and begot sons and daughters, and he died.
Nach der Geburt Tharahs lebte Nahor noch 119 Jahre und hatte Söhne und Töchter. –
26 And Tharrha lived seventy years, and begot Abram, and Nachor, and Arrhan.
Als Tharah 70 Jahre alt war, wurden ihm seine Söhne Abram, Nahor und Haran geboren.
27 And these [are] the generations of Tharrha. Tharrha begot Abram and Nachor, and Arrhan; and Arrhan begot Lot.
Und dies ist der Stammbaum Tharahs: Tharah hatte drei Söhne: Abram, Nahor und Haran; Haran aber war der Vater Lots.
28 And Arrhan died in the presence of Tharrha his father, in the land in which he was born, in the country of the Chaldees.
Haran starb dann noch bei Lebzeiten seines Vaters Tharah in seinem Geburtslande, zu Ur in Chaldäa.
29 And Abram and Nachor took to themselves wives, the name of the wife of Abram was Sara, and the name of the wife of Nachor, Malcha, daughter of Arrhan, and he was the father of Malcha, the father of Jescha.
Abram und Nahor aber nahmen sich ebenfalls Frauen: Abrams Frau hieß Sarai, und Nahors Frau hieß Milka; diese war eine Tochter Harans, des Vaters der Milka und der Jiska.
30 And Sara was barren, and did not bear children.
Sarai aber war unfruchtbar: sie hatte keine Kinder.
31 And Tharrha took Abram his son, and Lot the son Arrhan, the son of his son, and Sara his daughter-in-law, the wife of Abram his son, and led them forth out of the land of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan, and they came as far as Charrhan, and he lived there.
Da nahm Tharah seinen Sohn Abram und seinen Enkel Lot, den Sohn Harans, und seine Schwiegertochter Sarai, die Frau seines Sohnes Abram, und zog mit ihnen aus Ur in Chaldäa weg, um sich ins Land Kanaan zu begeben; als sie aber bis Haran gekommen waren, blieben sie daselbst wohnen.
32 And all the days of Tharrha in the land of Charrhan were two hundred and five years, and Tharrha died in Charrhan.
Tharah brachte hierauf sein Leben auf zweihundertfünf Jahre; dann starb er in Haran.
