Exodus 5
1 And after this went in Moses and Aaron to Pharao, and they said to him, These things says the Lord God of Israel, Send my people away, that they may keep a feast to me in the wilderness.
| پس از دیدار با بزرگان قوم، موسی و هارون نزد فرعون رفتند و به او گفتند: «ما از جانب یهوه خدای اسرائیل پیامی برای تو آورده‌ایم. او می‌فرماید:”قوم مرا رها کن تا به بیابان بروند و مراسم عید را برای پرستش من بجا آورند.“» |
2 And Pharao said, Who is he that I should listen to his voice, so that I should send away the children of Israel? I do not know the Lord, and I will not let Israel go.
| فرعون گفت: «یهوه کیست که من به حرفهایش گوش بدهم و بنی‌اسرائیل را آزاد کنم؟ من خداوند را نمی‌شناسم و بنی‌اسرائیل را نیز آزاد نمی‌کنم.» |
3 And they say to him, The God of the Hebrews has called us to him: we will go therefore a three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God, lest at any time death or slaughter happen to us.
| موسی و هارون گفتند: «خدای عبرانی‌ها ما را ملاقات کرده است. اکنون به ما اجازه بده که یک سفر سه روزه، به بیابان برویم و در آنجا برای خداوند خدای خود قربانی کنیم و گرنه او ما را به‌وسیله بلا یا شمشیر خواهد کشت.» |
4 And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do you, Moses and Aaron, turn the people from their works? depart each of you to your works.
| پادشاه مصر به موسی و هارون گفت: «چرا بنی‌اسرائیل را از کارشان باز می‌دارید؟ به کار خود برگردید! |
5 And Pharao said, Behold now, the people is very numerous; let us not then give them rest from their work.
| حال که تعدادتان زیاد شده است، می‌خواهید دست از کار بکشید؟» |
6 And Pharao gave orders to the taskmasters of the people and the accountants, saying,
| در آن روز فرعون به سرکارگران مصری و ناظران اسرائیلی خود چنین دستور داد: |
7 You shall no longer give straw to the people for brick-making as yesterday and the third day; but let them go themselves, and collect straw for themselves.
| «از این پس به اسرائیلی‌ها برای تهیه خشت، کاه ندهید؛ آنها باید خودشان کاه جمع کنند. |
8 And you shall impose on them daily the rate of brick-making which they perform: you shall not abate anything, for they are idle; therefore have they cried, saying, Let us arise and do sacrifice to our God.
| اما تعداد خشتها نیز نباید کمتر شود. پیداست به اندازه کافی کار ندارند و گرنه فکر رفتن و قربانی کردن به سرشان نمی‌زد. |
9 Let the works of these men be made grievous, and let them care for these things, and not care for vain words.
| چنان از آنها کار بکشید که فرصتی برای گوش دادن به حرفهای بیهوده نداشته باشند.» |
10 And the taskmasters and the accountants hastened them, and they spoke to the people, saying, thus says Pharao, I [will] give you straw no longer.
| پس ناظران و سرکارگران به قوم اسرائیل گفتند: «به فرمان فرعون از این پس به شما برای تهیه خشت، کاه داده نخواهد شد. |
11 Go you, yourselves, get for yourselves straw whenever you can find it, for nothing is diminished from your rate.
| خودتان بروید و از هر جا که می‌خواهید کاه جمع کنید و از آن خشت بسازید. مقدار خشتها نیز نباید از گذشته کمتر باشد.» |
12 So the people were dispersed in all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw.
| پس، بنی‌اسرائیل در سراسر مصر پراکنده شدند تا پوشال برای تهیۀ کاه جمع کنند. |
13 and the taskmasters hastened them, saying, Fulfil your regular daily tasks, even as when straw was given you.
| در این میان، ناظران مصری نیز بر آنها فشار می‌آوردند تا به همان اندازهٔ سابق خشت تولید کنند |
14 And the accountants of the race of the children of Israel, who were set over them by the masters of Pharao, were scourged, [[and questioned, ] men] saying, Why have you not fulfilled your rates of brick work as yesterday and the third day, today also?
| و سرکارگران اسرائیلی را می‌زدند و می‌گفتند: «چرا کارتان را مثل گذشته انجام نمی‌دهید؟» |
15 And the accountants of the children of Israel went in and cried to Pharao, saying, Why do you act thus to your servants?
| سرکارگران اسرائیلی نزد فرعون رفتند و شکایت کرده، گفتند: «چرا با ما اینچنین رفتار می‌شود؟ |
16 Straw is not given to your servants, and they tell us to make brick; and behold your servants have been scourged: you will therefore injure your people.
| ناظران به ما کاه نمی‌دهند و انتظار دارند به اندازهٔ گذشته خشت تولید کنیم! آنها بی‌سبب ما را می‌زنند، در حالی که ما تقصیری نداریم، بلکه خودشان مقصرند.» |
17 And he said to them, You are idle, you are idlers: therefore you say, Let us go [and] do sacrifice to our God.
| فرعون گفت: «شما تنبلید! تنبل! و گرنه نمی‌گفتید:”اجازه بده برویم و برای خداوند قربانی کنیم.“ |
18 Now then go and work, for straw shall not be given to you, yet you shall return the rate of bricks.
| حال به سر کارتان بازگردید، همان‌طور که دستور داده‌ام کاه به شما داده نخواهد شد و به اندازهٔ گذشته باید خشت تحویل بدهید.» |
19 And the accountants of the children of Israel saw themselves in an evil plight, [men] saying, You shall not fail to deliver the daily rate of the brick-making.
| سرکارگران اسرائیلی وقتی سخنان فرعون را شنیدند که نباید از تعداد خشتها چیزی کم شود، فهمیدند در وضع بدی گرفتار شده‌اند. |
20 And they met Moses and Aaron coming forth to meet them, as they came forth from Pharao.
| وقتی آنها از قصر فرعون بیرون می‌آمدند، به موسی و هارون که بیرون قصر منتظر ایستاده بودند، برخوردند. |
21 And they said to them, The Lord look upon you and judge you, for you have made our savor abominable before Pharao, and before his servants, to put a sword into his hands to kill us.
| پس به ایشان گفتند: «خداوند داد ما را از شما بگیرد که همهٔ ما را از چشم فرعون و درباریانش انداختید و بهانه‌ای به دست ایشان دادید تا ما را بکشند.» |
22 And Moses turned to the Lord, and said, I pray, Lord, why have you afflicted this people? and therefore have you sent me?
| پس، موسی نزد خداوند آمد و گفت: «خداوندا، چرا قوم خود را با سختیها مواجه می‌کنی؟ آیا برای همین مرا فرستادی؟ |
23 For from the time that I went to Pharao to speak in your name, he has afflicted this people, and you have not delivered your people.
| از وقتی که پیغام تو را به فرعون رسانده‌ام، بر این قوم ظلم می‌کند و تو هم به داد ایشان نمی‌رسی.» |
