Exodus 10
1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Go in to Pharao: for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that these signs may come upon them; in order
Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Va vers Pharaon, car j’ai appesanti son cœur et le cœur de ses serviteurs, afin d’opérer mes signes au milieu d’eux
2 that you may relate in the ears of your children, and to your children's children, in how many things I have mocked the Egyptians, and my wonders which I wrought among them; and you shall know that I [am] the Lord.
et afin que tu racontes aux oreilles de ton fils et du fils de ton fils quelles grandes choses j’ai faites en Égypte et quels signes j’ai opérés au milieu d’eux; et vous saurez que je suis Yahweh. »
3 And Moses and Aaron went in before Pharao, and they said to him, These things says the Lord God of the Hebrews, How long do you refuse to reverence me? Send my people away, that they may serve me.
Moïse et Aaron allèrent vers Pharaon et lui dirent: « Ainsi parle Yahweh, le Dieu des Hébreux: Jusques à quand refuseras-tu de t’humilier devant moi? Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu’il me serve.
4 But if you will not send my people away, behold, at this hour to-morrow I will bring an abundance of locusts upon all your coasts.
Si tu refuses de laisser aller mon peuple, voici que je ferai venir demain des sauterelles dans toute l’étendue de ton pays.
5 And they shall cover the face of the earth, and you shall not be able to see the earth; and they shall devour all that is left of the abundance of the earth, which the hail has left you, and shall devour every tree that grows for you on the land.
Elles couvriront la face de la terre, et l’on ne pourra plus voir la terre; elles dévoreront le reste qui a échappé, ce que vous a laissé la grêle, et elles dévoreront tous les arbres qui croissent dans vos champs;
6 And your houses shall be filled, and the houses of your servants, and all the houses in all the land of the Egyptians; things which your fathers have never seen, nor their forefathers, from the day that they were upon the earth until this day. And Moses turned away and departed from Pharao.
elles rempliront tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et celles de tous les Égyptiens. Tes pères et les pères de tes pères n’ont jamais vu pareille calamité depuis qu’ils existent sur la terre jusqu’à ce jour. » Moïse se retira et sortit de chez Pharaon.
7 And the servants of Pharao say to him, How long shall this be a snare to us? send away the men, that they may serve their God; will you know that Egypt is destroyed?
Les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent: « Jusques à quand cet homme sera-t-il pour nous un piège? Laisse aller ces gens, et qu’ils servent Yahweh leur Dieu. Ne vois-tu pas encore que l’Égypte va à sa ruine? »
8 And they brought back both Moses and Aaron to Pharao; and he said to them, Go and serve the Lord your God; but who are they that are going with you?
On fit revenir Moïse et Aaron auprès de Pharaon, et il leur dit: « Allez, servez Yahweh, votre Dieu. Qui sont ceux qui doivent y aller? »
9 And Moses said, We will go with the young and the old, with our sons, and daughters, and sheep, and oxen, for it is a feast of the Lord.
Moïse répondit: « Nous irons avec nos enfants et nos vieillards, avec nos fils et nos filles, avec nos brebis et nos bœufs; car c’est pour nous une fête en l’honneur de Yahweh. »
10 And he said to them, So let the Lord be with you: as I [will] send you away, [must I send away] you store also? see that evil is attached to you.
Pharaon leur dit: « Que Yahweh soit avec vous, comme je vais vous laisser aller, vous et vos enfants! Prenez garde, car vous avez de mauvais desseins!
11 Not so, but let the men go and serve God, for this you yourselves seek; and they cast them out from the presence of Pharao.
Non, non; allez, vous les hommes, et servez Yahweh, puisque c’est là ce que vous demandez. » Et on les chassa de devant Pharaon.
12 And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, and let the locust come up on the land, and it shall devour every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which the hail left.
Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Etends ta main sur le pays d’Égypte pour les sauterelles; qu’elles montent sur le pays d’Égypte; qu’elles dévorent toute l’herbe de la terre, tout ce que la grêle a laissé. »
13 And Moses lifted up his rod towards heaven, and the Lord brought a south wind upon the earth, all that day and all that night: the morning dawned, and the south wind brought up the locusts,
Moïse étendit son bâton sur le pays d’Égypte, et Yahweh fit souffler sur le pays un vent d’orient tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. Le matin venu, le vent d’orient avait apporté les sauterelles.
14 and brought them up over all the land of Egypt. And they rested in very great abundance over all the borders of Egypt. Before them there were not such locusts, neither after them shall there be.
Les sauterelles montèrent sur tout le pays d’Égypte et se posèrent sur tout le territoire de l’Égypte, en si grande quantité, que jamais il n’y avait eu et qu’il n’y aura jamais rien de semblable.
15 And they covered the face of the earth, and the land was wasted, and they devoured all the herbage of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which was left by the hail: there was no green thing left on the trees, nor on all the herbage of the field, in all the land of Egypt.
Elles couvrirent la face de toute la terre, et la terre en fut assombrie; elles dévorèrent toute l’herbe de la terre et tous les fruits des arbres, ce que la grêle avait laissé, et il ne resta aucune verdure aux arbres ni à l’herbe des champs, dans tout le pays d’Égypte.
16 And Pharao hasted to call Moses and Aaron, saying, I have sinned before the Lord your God, and against you;
Pharaon appela aussitôt Moïse et Aaron, et dit: « J’ai péché contre Yahweh, votre Dieu, et contre vous.
17 pardon therefore my sin yet this time, and pray to the Lord your God, and let him take away from me this death.
Mais pardonne mon péché encore cette fois seulement; et priez Yahweh, votre Dieu, afin qu’il éloigne de moi au moins ce fléau mortel. »
18 And Moses went forth from Pharao, and prayed to God.
Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et pria Yahweh.
19 And the Lord brought in the opposite direction a strong wind from the sea, and took up the locusts and cast them into the Red Sea, and there was not one locust left in all the land of Egypt.
Et Yahweh fit souffler un vent d’occident très fort, qui emporta les sauterelles et les poussa dans la mer Rouge; il ne resta pas une seule sauterelle dans toute l’étendue de l’Égypte. —
20 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharao, and he did not send away the children of Israel.
Yahweh endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne laissa pas aller les enfants d’Israël.
21 And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out your hand to heaven, and let there be darkness over the land of Egypt—darkness that may be felt.
Yahweh dit à Moïse: « Etends ta main vers le ciel, et qu’il y ait des ténèbres sur le pays d’Égypte, qu’on palpe les ténèbres. »
22 And Moses stretched out his hand to heaven, and there was darkness very black, even a storm over all the land of Egypt three days.
Moïse étendit sa main vers le ciel, et il y eut d’épaisses ténèbres dans tout le pays d’Égypte, pendant trois jours.
23 And for three days no man saw his brother, and no man rose up from his bed for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in all the places where they were.
Ils ne se voyaient pas les uns les autres, et nul ne se leva de la place où il était, pendant trois jours; mais tous les enfants d’Israël avaient de la lumière dans les lieux qu’ils habitaient.
24 And Pharao called Moses and Aaron, saying, Go, serve the Lord your God, only leave your sheep and your oxen, and let your store depart with you.
Pharaon appela Moïse, et dit: « Allez, servez Yahweh. Vos brebis et vos bœufs seuls resteront, et vos petits enfants mêmes pourront aller avec vous. »
25 And Moses said, Nay, but you shall give to us whole burnt offerings and sacrifices, which we will sacrifice to the Lord our God.
Moïse répondit: « Tu dois mettre entre nos mains de quoi faire des sacrifices et des holocaustes à Yahweh, notre Dieu.
26 And our cattle shall go with us, and we will not leave a hoof behind, for of them we will take to serve the Lord our God: but we know not in what manner we shall serve the Lord our God, until we arrive there.
Nos troupeaux viendront aussi avec nous; il n’en restera pas un ongle; car c’est d’eux que nous prendrons de quoi servir Yahweh, notre Dieu; et nous ne savons pas nous-mêmes, jusqu’à ce que nous soyons arrivés là, avec quoi nous devons servir Yahweh. »
27 But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharao, and he would not let them go.
Yahweh endurcit le cœur de Pharaon, et Pharaon ne voulut pas les laisser aller.
28 And Pharao says, Depart from me, beware of seeing my face again, for in what day you shall appear before me, you shall die.
Pharaon dit à Moïse: « Sors de chez moi! Garde-toi de paraître encore en ma présence, car le jour où tu paraîtras en ma présence, tu mourras. »
29 And Moses says, You have said, I will not appear in your presence again.
Et Moïse répondit: « Tu l’as dit: je ne paraîtrai plus devant toi. »
