Ecclesiastes 12

1 And remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of evil come, and the years overtake [you] in which you shall say, I have no pleasure in them.

जवानी में अपने बनानेवाले को याद रख: अपनी जवानी में अपने बनानेवाले को याद रखो, इससे पहले कि बुराई और वह समय आए जिनमें तुम्हारा कहना यह हो, “मुझे इनमें ज़रा सी भी खुशी नहीं,”

2 While the sun and light are not darkened, nor the moon and the stars; nor the clouds return after the rain:

इससे पहले कि सूरज, चंद्रमा और तारे अंधियारे हो जाएंगे, और बादल बारिश के बाद लौट आएंगे;

3 in the day wherein the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the mighty men shall become bent, and the grinding [women] cease because they have become few, and the [women] looking out at the windows be dark;

उस दिन पहरेदार कांपने लगेंगे, बलवान पुरुष झुक जाएंगे, जो पीसते हैं वे काम करना बंद कर देंगे, क्योंकि वे कम हो गए हैं, और जो झरोखों से झांकती हैं वे अंधी हो जाएंगी;

4 and they shall shut the doors in the marketplace, because of the weakness of the voice of her that grinds [at the mill]; and he shall rise up at the voice of the sparrow, and all the daughters of song shall be brought low;

चक्की की आवाज धीमी होने के कारण नगर के फाटक बंद हो जाएंगे; और कोई व्यक्ति उठ खड़ा होगा, तथा सारे गीतों की आवाज शांत हो जाएगी.

5 and they shall look up, and fears [shall be] in the way, and the almond tree shall blossom, and the locust shall increase, and the caper shall be scattered: because man has gone to his eternal home, and the mourners have gone about the market:

लोग ऊंची जगहों से डरेंगे और रास्ते भी डरावने होंगे; बादाम के पेड़ फूलेंगे और टिड्डा उनके साथ साथ घसीटता हुआ चलेगा और इच्छाएं खत्म हो जाएंगी. क्योंकि मनुष्य तो अपने सदा के घर को चला जाएगा जबकि रोने-पीटने वाले रास्तों में ही भटकते रह जाएंगे.

6 before the silver cord be [let go], or the choice gold be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel run down to the cistern;

याद करो उनको इससे पहले कि चांदी की डोर तोड़ी जाए, और सोने का कटोरा टूट जाए, कुएं के पास रखा घड़ा फोड़ दिया जाए और पहिया तोड़ दिया जाए;

7 [before] the dust also return to the earth as it was, and the spirit return to God who gave it.

धूल जैसी थी वैसी ही भूमि में लौट जाएगी, और आत्मा परमेश्वर के पास लौट जाएगी जिसने उसे दिया था.

8 Vanity of vanities, said the Preacher; all is vanity.

“बेकार! ही बेकार है!” दार्शनिक कहता है, “सब कुछ बेकार है!”

9 And because the Preacher was wise above [others, so it was] that he taught man excellent knowledge, and the ear will trace out the parables.

बुद्धिमान होने के साथ साथ दार्शनिक ने लोगों को ज्ञान भी सिखाया उसने खोजबीन की और बहुत से नीतिवचन को इकट्ठा किया.

10 The Preacher sought diligently to find out acceptable words, and a correct writing, [even] words of truth.

दार्शनिक ने मनभावने शब्दों की खोज की और सच्चाई की बातों को लिखा.

11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails firmly fastened, which have been given from one shepherd by agreement.

बुद्धिमानों की बातें छड़ी के समान होती हैं तथा शिक्षकों की बातें अच्छे से ठोकी गई कीलों के समान; वे एक ही चरवाहे द्वारा दी गईं हैं.

12 And moreover, my son, guard yourself by means of them: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

पुत्र! इनके अलावा दूसरी शिक्षाओं के बारे में चौकस रहना; बहुत सी पुस्तकों को लिखकर रखने का कोई अंत नहीं है और पुस्तकों का ज्यादा पढ़ना भी शरीर को थकाना ही है.

13 Hear the end of the matter, the sun: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole man.

इसलिये इस बात का अंत यही है: कि परमेश्वर के प्रति श्रद्धा और भय की भावना रखो और उनकी व्यवस्था और विधियों का पालन करो, क्योंकि यही हर एक मनुष्य पर लागू होता है.

14 For God will bring every work into judgment, with everything that has been overlooked, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.

क्योंकि परमेश्वर हर एक काम को, चाहे वह छुपी हुई हो, भली या बुरी हो, उसके लिए न्याय करेंगे.
