Chronicles II 14
1 And Abia died with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In the days of Asa the land of Juda had rest ten years.
Abías se durmió con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. Reinó en su lugar su hijo Asá, en cuyo tiempo el país tuvo paz durante diez años.
2 And he did that which was good and right in the sight of the Lord his God.
Asá hizo lo que era bueno y recto a los ojos de Yahvé, su Dios. Suprimió los altares extraños y los lugares altos;
3 And he removed the altars of the strange [gods], and the high places, and broke the pillars in pieces, and cut down the groves:
quebró las piedras de culto, taló las ascheras
4 and he told Juda to seek earnestly the Lord God of their fathers, and to perform the law and commandments.
e inculcó a Judá que buscase a Yahvé, el Dios de sus padres y cumpliese la Ley de los mandamientos.
5 And he removed from all the cities of Juda the altars and the idols, and established in quietness
En todas las ciudades de Judá hizo desaparecer los lugares altos y los pilares del sol; y el reino estuvo en paz bajo su reinado.
6 fortified cities in the land of Juda; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in these years; for the Lord gave him rest.
Edificó ciudades fuertes en Judá, porque el país estaba en paz, y no hubo guerra contra él por aquellos años; pues Yahvé le había dado reposo.
7 And he said to Juda, Let us fortify these cities, and make walls, and towers, and gates, and bars: we shall prevail over the land, for as we have sought out the Lord our God, he has sought out us, and has given us rest round about, and prospered us.
Dijo (Asá) a Judá: “Edifiquemos estas ciudades, cercándolas de murallas, torres, puertas y cerrojos, mientras el país esté (en paz) delante de nosotros; porque hemos buscado a Yahvé nuestro Dios; y por haberle buscado, Él nos ha dado reposo de todas partes.” Edificaron y prosperaron.
8 And Asa had a force of armed men bearing shields and spears in the land of Juda, [even] three hundred thousand, and in the land of Benjamin two hundred and eighty thousand targeteers and archers: all these were mighty warriors.
Asa tenía un ejército de trescientos mil hombres de Judá, que llevaban broquel y lanza, y de doscientos ochenta mil de Benjamín, que llevaban escudos y eran arqueros; todos estos valientes guerreros.
9 And Zare the Ethiopian went out against them, with a force of a million, and three hundred chariots; and came to Maresa.
Salió contra ellos Zarah etíope con un ejército de un millón (de hombres) y trescientos carros, y llegó hasta Maresá.
10 And Asa went out to meet him, and set the battle in array in the valley north of Maresa.
Asá salió contra él, y se pusieron en orden de batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresá.
11 And Asa cried to the Lord his God, and said, O Lord, it is not impossible with you to save by many or by few: strengthen us, O Lord our God; for we trust in you, and in your name have we come against this great multitude. O Lord our God, let not man prevail against you.
Entonces Asá invocó a Yahvé, su Dios, y dijo: “¡Oh Yahvé, en tu poder está ayudar a los fuertes o a los que no tienen ninguna fuerza! Ayúdanos, pues, Yahvé, Dios nuestro, porque en Ti nos apoyamos y en tu nombre hemos salido contra esta inmensa multitud. ¡Yahvé, Tú eres nuestro Dios! ¡No prevalezca contra Ti hombre alguno!”
12 And the Lord struck the Ethiopians before Juda; and the Ethiopians fled.
En efecto, Yahvé deshizo a los etíopes delante de Asá y Judá; y los etíopes se pusieron en fuga.
13 And Asa and his people pursued them to Gedor; and the Ethiopians fell, so that they could not recover themselves; for they were crushed before the Lord, and before his host; and they took many spoils.
Asá y la gente que con él estaba, los persiguieron hasta Gerar; y cayeron de los etíopes tantos que no pudieron rehacerse, pues fueron destrozados delante de Yahvé y su ejército; y (los de Judá) se llevaron un botín inmenso.
14 And they destroyed their towns roundabout Gedor; for a terror of the Lord was upon them: and they spoiled all their cities, for they had much spoil.
Destruyeron también todas las ciudades en los alrededores de Gerar; porque el terror de Yahvé las había invadido; y, saquearon todas las ciudades, pues había en ellas un gran botín.
15 Also they destroyed the tents of cattle, and the Alimazons, and took many sheep and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
Asimismo atacaron las majadas y capturaron gran cantidad de ovejas y camellos. Después se volvieron a Jerusalén.
