Kings III 18
1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Eliu in the third year, saying, Go, and appear before Achaab, and I will bring rain upon the face of the earth.
Después de mucho tiempo, la palabra del Señor vino a Elías, en el tercer año, diciendo: Ve y muéstrate a Acab, para que pueda enviar lluvia sobre la tierra.
2 And Eliu went to appear before Achaab: and the famine [was] severe in Samaria.
Entonces Elías fue y se presentó a Acab. Ahora había una hambruna en Samaria.
3 And Achaab called Abdiu the steward. Now Abdiu feared the Lord greatly.
Y Acab mandó llamar a Abdías, el mayordomo de la casa del rey. Ahora bien, Abdías reverenciaba mucho al Señor;
4 And it came to pass when Jezabel struck the prophets of the Lord, that Abdiu took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.
Porque cuando Jezabel estaba cortando a los profetas del Señor, Abdías tomó a cien de ellos y los guardó secretamente en una cueva, cincuenta a la vez, y les dio pan y agua.
5 And Achaab said to Abdiu, Come, and let us go through the land, and to the fountains of water, and to the brooks, if by any means we may find grass, and may save the horses and mules, and so they will not perish from the tents.
Y Acab dijo a Abdías: Vamos, pasemos por todo el país, a todas las fuentes de agua y todos los ríos, y veamos si hay hierba para los caballos y las bestias de transporte. para que podamos evitar que algunas de las bestias sean destruidas.
6 And they made a division of the way between them to pass through it: Achaab went one way, and Abdiu went by another way alone.

7 And Abdiu was alone in the way; and Eliu came alone to meet him: and Abdiu hasted, and fell upon his face, and said, My lord Eliu, are you [indeed] he?
Y mientras Abadías iba en camino, se encontró cara a cara con Elías; y viendo quién era, se postró y dijo: ¿Eres tu, mi señor Elias?
8 And Eliu said to him, I [am]: go say to your master, Behold, Eliu [is here].
Y Elías, en respuesta, dijo: Soy yo; Ahora ve y dile a tu señor: Elías está aquí.
9 And Abdiu said, What sin have I committed, that you give your servant into the hand of Achaab to kill me?
Y él dijo: ¿Qué pecado he hecho, para que entregues a tu siervo en manos de Acab, y seas la causa de mi muerte?
10 [As] the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom, whither my lord has not sent to seek you; and if they said, He is not [here], then has he set fire to the kingdom and its territories, because he has not found you.
Por la vida del Señor tu Dios, no hay nación ni reino donde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte; y cuando dijeron: no está aquí; les hizo jurar que no te habían visto.
11 And now you say, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Eliu [is here].
Y ahora dices: Ve, di a tu señor: Elías está aquí.
12 And it shall come to pass when I shall have departed from you, that the Spirit of the Lord shall carry you to a land which I know not, and I shall go in to tell the matter to Achaab, and he will not find you and will kill me: yet your servant fears the Lord from his youth.
Y de inmediato, cuando me haya alejado de ti, el espíritu del Señor te llevará, adonde yo no sepa, así que cuando venga y le diga a Acab, y él no te ve, él me matará, aunque yo, tu siervo, he sido un adorador del Señor desde mi juventud.
13 Has it not been told to you my lord, what I did when Jezabel killed the prophets of the Lord, that I hid a hundred men of the prophets of the Lord, by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
¿Mi señor no ha tenido noticias de lo que hice cuando Jezabel estaba matando a los profetas del Señor? ¿Cómo guardé a cien de ellos en un agujero secreto en la roca, cincuenta a la vez, y les di pan y agua?
14 And now you say to me, Go, say to your master, Behold, Eliu [is here]: and he shall kill me.
Y ahora dices: Ve y di a tu Señor: Elías está aquí; y él me matará.
15 And Eliu said, [As] the Lord of Hosts before whom I stand lives, today I will appear before him.
Entonces Elías dijo: Por la vida del Señor de los ejércitos, de quien soy siervo, ciertamente le dejaré que me vea hoy.
16 And Abdiu went to meet Achaab, and told him: and Achaab hasted forth, and went to meet Eliu.
Entonces Abdías fue a Acab y le dio la noticia; Y Acab fue a ver a Elías.
17 And it came to pass when Achaab saw Eliu, that Achaab said to Eliu, Are you he that perverts Israel?
Y cuando vio a Elías, Acab le dijo: ¿Eres tú, perturbador de Israel?
18 And Eliu said, I do not pervert Israel; but it is you and your father's house, in that you forsake the Lord your God, and you have gone after Baalim.
Entonces él respondió: No, yo no he estado molestando a Israel, sino tú y tu familia; porque, dejaron los mandamientos del Señor, has ido tras los baales.
19 And now send, gather to me all Israel to mount Carmel, and the prophets of shame four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, that eat [at] Jezabel's table.
Ahora, envíen y reúnan a Israel delante de mí en el Monte Carmelo, con los cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal y los cuatrocientos profetas de los bosques que Jezabel Mantiene.
20 And Achaab sent to all Israel, and gathered all the prophets to mount Carmel.
Entonces Acab envió por todos los hijos de Israel y reunió a los profetas en el monte Carmelo.
21 And Eliu drew near to them all: and Eliu said to them, How long will you halt on both feet? if the Lord be God, follow him; but if Baal, follow him. And the people answered not a word.
Entonces Elías se acercó a todo el pueblo y dijo: ¿Cuánto tiempo seguirán entre dos opiniones? Si el Señor es Dios, entonces síganlo, más si baal, síganlo a él. Y la gente no respondió ni una palabra.
22 And Eliu said to the people, I am left, the only one prophet of the Lord; and the prophets of Baal [are] four hundred and fifty men, and the prophets of the groves four hundred.
Entonces Elías dijo al pueblo: Yo, incluso yo, soy el único profeta viviente del Señor; mas los profetas de Baal son cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.
23 Let them give us two oxen, and let them choose one for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, and put no fire [on] the wood: and I will dress the other bullock, and put on no fire.
Ahora, que nos den dos bueyes; y que tomen uno para ellos, y que se corten, y lo pongan sobre la leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo de él; Prepararé el otro buey, lo pondré en la leña y no pondrán fuego debajo.
24 And do you call loudly on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord my God, and it shall come to pass that the God who shall answer by fire, he [is] God. And all the people answered and said, The word which you have spoken [is] good.
Invoquen a sus dioses, y yo invocaré al Señor: y quedará claro que el que da respuesta por fuego es Dios. Y todas las personas en respuesta dijeron: Está bien dicho.
25 And Eliu said to the prophets of shame, Choose to yourselves one calf, and dress it first, for you [are] many; and call you on the name of your god; but apply no fire.
Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Toma un buey para ti y prepáralo primero, porque hay más de ustedes; invoquen el nombre de sus dioses, pero no pongan fuego debajo.
26 And they took the calf and dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning till noon, and said, hear us, O Baal, hear us. And there was no voice, neither was there hearing, and they ran up and down on the altar which they [had] made.
Entonces tomaron el buey que se les había dado y lo prepararon, clamando a Baal desde la mañana hasta la mitad del día, y diciendo: Oh Baal, escúchanos. Pero no hubo voz ni respuesta. Y estaban saltando arriba y abajo ante el altar que habían hecho.
27 And it was noon, and Eliu the Thesbite mocked them, and said, Call with a loud voice, for he is a god; for he is meditating, or else perhaps he is engaged in business, or perhaps he is asleep, and is to be awaked.
Y a la mitad del día, Elías se burló de ellos, diciendo: Da gritos más fuertes, porque él es un dios; puede estar pensando profundamente, o puede haberse ido por algún motivo, o puede estar en un viaje, o por casualidad está durmiendo y tiene que estar despierto.
28 And they cried with a loud voice, and cut themselves according to their custom with knives and lancets until the blood gushed out upon them.
Así que lanzaron fuertes gritos, cortándose con cuchillos y lancetas, como era su camino, hasta que la sangre brotó sobre ellos.
29 And they prophesied until the evening came; and it came to pass as it was the time of the offering of the sacrifice, that Eliu the Thesbite spoke to the prophets of the abominations, saying, Stand by for the present, and I will offer my sacrifice. And they stood aside and departed.
Y desde la mitad del día continuaron con sus oraciones hasta el momento de la ofrenda; pero no hubo voz, ni respuesta, ni nadie que les prestara atención.
30 And Eliu said to the people, Come near to me. And all the people came near to him.
Entonces Elías dijo a todo el pueblo: Acércate a mí; y toda la gente se acercó. Y volvió a levantar el altar del Señor, que había sido derribado.
31 And Eliu took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of Israel, as the Lord spoke to him, saying, Israel shall be your name.
Entonces Elías tomó doce piedras, el número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, a quienes el Señor había dicho: Israel será tu nombre:
32 And he built up the stones in the name of the Lord, and repaired the altar that had been broken down; and he made a trench that would hold two measures of seed round about the altar.
Y con las piedras hizo un altar al nombre del Señor; e hizo una zanja profunda alrededor del altar, lo suficientemente grande como para tomar dos medidas de semilla.
33 And he piled the cleft wood on the altar which he [had] made, and divided the whole burnt offering, and laid [it] on the wood, and laid [it] in order on the altar, and said, Fetch me four pitchers of water, and pour [it] on the whole burnt offering, and on the wood. And they did so.
Puso la leña en orden y, cortando el buey, la puso sobre la leña. Luego dijo: Consigue cuatro recipientes llenos de agua y ponlos en la ofrenda quemada y en la madera. Y él dijo: Hazlo por segunda vez, y lo hicieron por segunda vez;
34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
Y él dijo: Hazlo por tercera vez, y lo hicieron por tercera vez.
35 And the water ran round about the altar, and they filled the trench with water.
Y el agua rodeó todo el altar hasta que la zanja se llenó.
36 And Eliu cried aloud to the heaven, and said, Lord God of Abraam, and Isaac, and Israel, answer me, O Lord, answer me this day by fire, and let all this people know that you are the Lord, the God of Israel, and I [am] your servant, and for your sake I have wrought these works.
Entonces en el momento de la ofrenda, el profeta Elías se acercó y dijo: Oh Señor, el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, que se vea hoy que eres Dios en Israel, y que soy tu siervo, y que he hecho todas estas cosas por tu orden.
37 Hear me, O Lord, hear me, and let this people know that you are the Lord God, and you have turned back the heart of this people.
Dame una respuesta, oh Señor, dame una respuesta, para que esta gente pueda ver que eres Dios y que has hecho que sus corazones vuelvan de nuevo a ti.
38 Then fire fell from the Lord out of heaven, and devoured the whole burnt offerings, and the wood and the water that was in the trench, and the fire licked up the stones and the earth.
Entonces el fuego del Señor descendió, quemando la ofrenda y la madera y las piedras y el polvo, y bebiendo el agua en la zanja.
39 And all the people fell upon their faces, and said, Truly the Lord [is] God; he [is] God.
Y cuando la gente lo vio, todos se arremolinaron y dijeron: El Señor, él es Dios, el Señor, él es Dios.
40 And Eliu said to the people, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them; and Eliu brings them down to the brook Kisson, and he killed them there.
Entonces Elías les dijo: Toma a los profetas de Baal, que ninguno de ellos se escape. Entonces los tomaron, y Elías los hizo bajar al arroyo Cisón, y los mataron allí.
41 And Eliu said to Achaab, Go up, and eat and drink, for [there is] a sound of the coming of rain.
Entonces Elías dijo a Acab: ¡Arriba! toma comida y bebida, porque hay un sonido de mucha lluvia.
42 And Achaab went up to eat and to drink; and Eliu went up to Carmel, and stooped to the ground, and put his face between his knees,
Entonces Acab subió a comer y beber, mientras que Elías subió a la cima del Carmelo; y descendió sobre la tierra, poniendo su rostro entre las rodillas.
43 and said to his servant, Go up, and look toward the sea. And the servant looked, and said, There is nothing: and Eliu said, Do you then go again seven times.
Y díjole a su siervo: Ve ahora, y mira en dirección al mar. Y subió, y después de mirar, dijo: No hay nada. Y él dijo: Vuelve siete veces; y fue siete veces.
44 And the servant went again seven times: and it came to pass at the seventh time, that, behold, a little cloud like the sole of a man's foot brought water; and he said, Go up, and say to Achaab, make ready your chariot, and go down, lest the rain overtake you.
Y por séptima vez dijo: Veo una nube que sale del mar, tan pequeña como la mano de un hombre. Luego dijo: sube y dile a Acab: prepara tu carruaje y baja o la lluvia te retendrá.
45 And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the heaven grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Achaab wept, and went to Jezrael.
Y después de muy poco tiempo, el cielo se oscureció con las nubes y el viento, y hubo una gran lluvia. Y Acab fue en su carruaje a Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord [was] upon Eliu, and he girded up his loins, and ran before Achaab to Jezrael.
Y la mano del Señor estaba sobre Elías y le dio fuerzas, y salió corriendo, hasta que llegaron a Jezreel, y llegó antes de Acab.
