Chronicles I 10
1 Now the Philistines warred against Israel; and they fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gelbue.
Og filistarane stridde mot Israel, og Israels-mennerne flydde for filistarane, og det vart liggjande mange falne på Gilboafjellet.
2 And the Philistines pursued after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines struck Jonathan, and Aminadab, and Melchisue, sons of Saul.
Og filistarane sette etter Saul og sønerne hans, og då felte dei Jonatan og Abinadab og Malkisua, sønerne hans Saul.
3 And the battle prevailed against Saul, and the archers hit him with bows and arrows, and they were wounded of the bows.
Då dei no søkte hardt innåt Saul sjølv, og bogeskyttarane kom yver han, og han fekk ein støkk i seg for skyttarane.
4 And Saul said to his armor-bearer, Draw your sword, and pierce me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me. But his armor-bearer would not, for he was greatly afraid: so Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
Og Saul sagde til våpnsveinen sin: «Drag ut sverdet ditt og stikk det igjenom meg, so ikkje desse u-umskorne skal koma og fara ille med meg!» Men våpnsveinen hans vilde ikkje; for han var ovleg rædd. Då tok Saul sjølv sverdet og stupte seg på det.
5 And his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, and he also fell upon his sword.
Men då våpnsveinen såg at Saul var dåen, stupte han seg og på sitt sverd og døydde.
6 So Saul died, and his three sons on that day, and all his family died at the same time.
So døydde då Saul og dei tri sønerne hans; og dei som høyrde til hans hus, døydde alle i ein gong.
7 And all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, and they left their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and lived in them.
Då so alle dei Israels-mennerne som var i dalen, såg at dei hadde flytt, og at Saul og sønerne hans var falne, so for dei frå byarne sine og rømde undan, og so kom filistarane og slo seg ned i deim.
8 And it came to pass on the next [day] that the Philistines came to strip the slain, and they found Saul and his sons fallen on mount Gelbue.
Andre dagen kom filistarane og skulde plundra liki, og dei fann då Saul og sønerne hans liggjande på Gilboafjellet.
9 And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent them into the land of the Philistines round about, to proclaim the glad tidings to their idols, and to the people.
Og dei plundra honom, og tok med seg hovudet og våpni hans og sende deim ikring i Filistarlandet, og kunngjorde gledebodet for avgudarne sine og for folket.
10 And they put their armor in the house of their god, and they put his head in the house of Dagon.
Og dei lagde våpni hans i gudshuset sitt; men hausen hans feste dei i Dagons-templet.
11 And all the dwellers in Galaad heard of all that the Philistines had done to Saul and to Israel.
Då heile Jabes i Gilead høyrde alt det som filistarane hadde gjort med Saul,
12 And all the mighty men rose up from Galaad, and they took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabis, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabis, and fasted seven days.
drog dei av, alle våpnføre menner, og tok liket åt Saul og liket åt sønerne hans og førde deim til Jabes, og jorda beini deira under eiki i Jabes og heldt fasta i sju dagar.
13 So Saul died for his transgressions, wherein he transgressed against God, against the word of the Lord, forasmuch as he kept [it] not, because Saul enquired of a wizard to seek [counsel], and Samuel the prophet answered him:
So let Saul livet for sin utruskap mot Herren, med di han ikkje hadde fylgt Herrens ord, og like eins for di han hadde spurt ei som mana fram draugar og søkt råd hjå henne.
14 and he sought not the Lord: so he killed him, and turned the kingdom to David the son of Jesse.
Han hadde ikkje søkt råd hjå Herren; difor let Herren honom døy, og sidan let han David Isaison få kongedømet.
