Luke 14
1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
੧ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਹ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਸਰਦਾਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗਿਆ ਤਦ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਤੇ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਰੱਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ।
2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
੨ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖੋ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਜਲੋਧਰੀ ਦੀ ਬਿਮਾਰੀ ਸੀ।
3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
੩ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਦੇ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਭਲਾ, ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਚੰਗਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ?
4 And they held their peace. And he took [him], and healed him, and let him go;
੪ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਤਾਂ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਛੂਹ ਕੇ ਚੰਗਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੋਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
੫ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਗਧਾ ਜਾਂ ਬੈਲ ਖੂਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਝੱਟ ਸਬਤ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾ ਕੱਢੇਗਾ।
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
੬ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਕੇ।
7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,
੭ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜੋ ਮਹਿਮਾਨ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉੱਚੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਕਿਹਾ
8 When thou art bidden of any [man] to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
੮ਕਿ ਜਦ ਕੋਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਆਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੁਲਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਮੁੱਖ ਸਥਾਨ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਬੈਠ। ਕੀ ਜਾਣੀਏ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਆਦਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੋਵੇ।
9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
੯ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਣ ਕੇ ਆਖੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਛੱਡ ਅਤੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਗਰ ਬੈਠਣਾ ਪਵੇ।
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
੧੦ਪਰ ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਇਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਪਿਛੇ ਬੈਠ, ਫੇਰ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਜਦ ਆਵੇ ਤਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖੇ, “ਮਿੱਤਰਾ, ਅੱਗੇ ਆ ਜਾ” ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਖਾਣ ਬੈਠੇ ਹਨ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਦਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
੧੧ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਚਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਨੀਵਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਸੋ ਉੱਚਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor [thy] rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
੧੨ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ਸੀ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਦਿਨ ਜਾਂ ਰਾਤ ਦੀ ਦਾਵਤ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਮਿੱਤਰਾਂ, ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਭਾਈਆਂ, ਆਪਣਿਆਂ ਸਾਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਧਨਵਾਨ ਗੁਆਂਢੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਬੁਲਾ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਫੇਰ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਬੁਲਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
੧੩ਪਰ ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਦਾਵਤ ਕਰੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਲੰਗੜਿਆਂ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾ।
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
੧੪ਅਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਧੰਨ ਹੋਵੇਂਗਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੇਰਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਚੁਕਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਬਦਲਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਧਰਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੀ ਉੱਠਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed [is] he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.
੧੫ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੈਠਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਯਿਸੂ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਧੰਨ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੋਜਨ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:
੧੬ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕਿਸੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਾਵਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ।
17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
੧੭ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਸੱਦੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖੇ ਕਿ ਆਓ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਹੁਣ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ
18 And they all with one [consent] began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
੧੮ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸੱਭੇ ਇੱਕ ਮੱਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਬਹਾਨੇ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ। ਪਹਿਲੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, ਮੈਂ ਇੱਕ ਖੇਤ ਮੁੱਲ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕਰੀਂ।
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
੧੯ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਬਲ਼ਦਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੰਜ ਜੋੜੀਆਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਲਈਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਰਖਣ ਲਈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਫ਼ ਕਰੀਂ।
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
੨੦ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੇਰਾ ਵਿਆਹ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੈਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਸਕਦਾ।
21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
੨੧ਤਦ ਉਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੇ ਆਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਦੱਸੀਆਂ। ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਘਰ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਗੁੱਸੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਲਦੀ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਚੌਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਕੰਗਾਲਾਂ, ਟੁੰਡਿਆਂ, ਅੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਲੰਗੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਥੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਿਆ।
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
੨੨ਉਸ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜੀ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ। ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਅਜੇ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਖਾਲੀ ਹੈ।
23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel [them] to come in, that my house may be filled.
੨੩ਮਾਲਕ ਨੇ ਨੌਕਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਕੇ ਸੜਕਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪੈਲੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹਿਆ ਵੱਲ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਤਗੀਦ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਲਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਘਰ ਮਹਿਮਾਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਜਾਵੇ।
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
੨੪ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਖਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਗਏ ਸਨ ਇੱਕ ਵੀ ਮੇਰੇ ਭੋਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
੨੫ਵੱਡੀ ਭੀੜ ਯਿਸੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ,
26 If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
੨੬ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਆਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ, ਮਾਤਾ, ਪਤਨੀ, ਬਾਲ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ, ਭਾਈਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਗੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
੨੭ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਲੀਬ ਚੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਗਰ ਨਾ ਚੱਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have [sufficient] to finish [it]?
੨੮ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੌਣ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਬੁਰਜ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਖ਼ਰਚ ਦਾ ਹਿਸਾਬ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਯੋਗ ਧਨ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਨਹੀਂ?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish [it], all that behold [it] begin to mock him,
੨੯ਕਿਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਨੀਂਹ ਰੱਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ ਤਾਂ ਸਭ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸਦਾ ਮਜ਼ਾਕ ਉਡਾਉਣ
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
੩੦ਕਿ ਇਸ ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਤਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਰ ਪੂਰਾ ਨਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਿਆ!
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
੩੧ਜਾਂ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਦੂਜੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਲਈ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਸਲਾਹ ਨਾ ਕਰੇ, ਕੀ ਮੈਂ ਦਸ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਿਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਵੀਹ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਸੈਨਿਕ ਨਾਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
੩੨ਜੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ ਹਮਲਾਵਰ ਦੇ ਅਜੇ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਦੂਤ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਮੇਲ-ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਰਤਾਂ ਪੁੱਛਦਾ ਹੈ।
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
੩੩ਸੋ ਇਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੋ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ? ਨਾ ਤਿਆਗੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰਾ ਚੇਲਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।
34 Salt [is] good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
੩੪ਲੂਣ ਤਾਂ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਜੇ ਲੂਣ ਬੇਸੁਆਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਸਲੂਣਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; [but] men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
੩੫ਉਹ ਨਾ ਖੇਤ, ਨਾ ਖਾਦ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਕੰਨ ਹੋਣ ਉਹ ਸੁਣੇ।
