Judges 19
1 And it came to pass in those days, when [there was] no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.
Trong thời kỳ Ít-ra-ên chưa có vua. Một người từ đại tộc Lê-vi đến ngụ tại một vùng xa xôi hẻo lánh thuộc vùng núi Ép-ra-im. Người này cưới vợ bé quê ở Bết-lê-hem thuộc Giu-đa.
2 And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Beth-lehem-judah, and was there four whole months.
Người vợ bé ngoại tình, rồi bỏ về Bết-lê-hem, sống tại nhà cha. Sau bốn tháng,
3 And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, [and] to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.
người chồng đem theo một người đầy tớ và hai con lừa, lên đường tìm vợ, dùng lời ngọt ngào khuyên bảo để đem vợ về. Nàng đưa chồng vào nhà gặp cha. Thấy con rể, người cha chào đón niềm nở lắm.
4 And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.
Ông ép con rể ở lại, nên người này nán lại ba ngày, mọi người cùng nhau ăn uống vui vẻ.
5 And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.
Ngày thứ tư, họ dậy sớm, sửa soạn lên đường. Nhưng người cha bảo con rể: “Ăn một miếng bánh lót lòng đã rồi hãy đi.”
6 And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.
Vậy họ ngồi xuống cùng nhau ăn uống, người cha lại nài ép: “Xin con ở lại thêm đêm nay nữa cho thoải mái vui vẻ.”
7 And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.
Mặc dù muốn đứng dậy lên đường, nhưng vì cha vợ năn nỉ, người ấy đành ở lại.
8 And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.
Ngày thứ năm, người Lê-vi dậy sớm để đi, lại bị cha vợ mời mọc: “Con ngồi đây điểm tâm đã, đến chiều hãy đi.” Và họ lại cùng nhau ăn uống.
9 And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.
Chiều hôm ấy, khi người Lê-vi cùng vợ bé và đầy tớ mình sắp lên đường, người cha vợ nói: “Ngày đã gần tàn. Xin con ở lại nghỉ đêm cho thoải mái vui vẻ. Sáng con sẽ dậy sớm lên đường về nhà.”
10 But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which [is] Jerusalem; and [there were] with him two asses saddled, his concubine also [was] with him.
Nhưng lần này người Lê-vi đã quyết định, cứ bắt lừa, đem vợ bé ra đi, theo hướng Giê-bu (tức Giê-ru-sa-lem).
11 [And] when they [were] by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.
Khi đến Giê-bu thì trời sắp tối, người đầy tớ nói với chủ: “Thưa ông, đã trễ rồi, chúng ta hãy ở lại thành của người Giê-bu-sít tối nay.”
12 And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that [is] not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.
Nhưng người Lê-vi nói: “Ta không nên vào thành của người ngoại quốc, nơi không có người Ít-ra-ên. Chúng ta sẽ đến Ghi-bê-a.
13 And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.
Cố lên, chúng ta hãy mau đến Ghi-bê-a hoặc Ra-ma, chúng ta sẽ nghỉ đêm ở một trong hai thành đó.”
14 And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them [when they were] by Gibeah, which [belongeth] to Benjamin.
Vậy họ tiếp tục đi. Đến gần Ghi-bê-a, xứ Bên-gia-min, trời tối hẳn.
15 And they turned aside thither, to go in [and] to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for [there was] no man that took them into his house to lodging.
Họ vào Ghi-bê-a để nghỉ đêm, nhưng không được ai mời vào nhà, nên đành ngồi ngoài phố.
16 And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which [was] also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place [were] Benjamites.
Lúc ấy, có một cụ già đi làm ruộng về. Ông này quê ở núi Ép-ra-im, nhưng đến ngụ tại Ghi-bê-a, là đất của người Bên-gia-min.
17 And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?
Trông thấy người bộ hành bên phố, cụ già hỏi họ từ đâu đến và định đi đâu.
18 And he said unto him, We [are] passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence [am] I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I [am now] going to the house of the LORD; and there [is] no man that receiveth me to house.
Người Lê-vi đáp: “Chúng tôi khởi hành từ Bết-lê-hem đất Giu-đa trên đường về nhà, ở miền hẻo lánh bên kia núi Ép-ra-im và chúng tôi định đi đến Đền Tạm của Chúa Hằng Hữu. Nhưng không ai cho chúng tôi trọ qua đêm cả,
19 Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man [which is] with thy servants: [there is] no want of any thing.
dù chúng tôi có đủ mọi thứ cần dùng. Chúng tôi có cỏ rơm cho lừa, cũng như bánh và rượu cho chúng tôi.”
20 And the old man said, Peace [be] with thee; howsoever [let] all thy wants [lie] upon me; only lodge not in the street.
Cụ già nói: “Mời các ông ở đây với tôi. Tôi sẽ cung cấp mọi thứ các ông cần. Ngủ đêm ngoài phố thế này không tiện.”
21 So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.
Rồi ông dẫn họ về nhà mình và cho lừa ăn cỏ. Sau khi mọi người rửa chân xong, họ ngồi lại ăn chung với nhau.
22 [Now] as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, [and] beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.
Khi đang ăn uống vui vẻ, có một nhóm người tà ác trong thành kéo đến vây nhà, đập cửa, thét bảo cụ già: “Hãy đem ông khách của ông ra đây cho chúng tôi hành dâm.”
23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, [nay], I pray you, do not [so] wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.
Cụ già bước ra nói với họ: “Không được đâu, xin các ông đừng làm điều đại ác như vậy. Vì những người này là khách của tôi, đừng làm chuyện đồi bại thế.
24 Behold, [here is] my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.
Tôi có một đứa con gái còn trinh và người ấy cũng có một cô vợ bé, để tôi đem họ ra, các ông làm nhục hay làm gì tùy ý. Nhưng với người ấy, xin đừng làm điều đồi bại này.”
25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.
Nhưng họ không chịu nghe lời cụ già. Người Lê-vi bắt vợ bé và đẩy nàng ra ngoài. Những người trong thành lăng nhục nàng suốt đêm, thay phiên nhau hãm hiếp nàng đến rạng sáng. Cuối cùng, họ thả nàng ra.
26 Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord [was], till it was light.
Người đàn bà về, ngã lăn trước cửa nhà chồng mình trọ, nằm đó cho đến khi trời sáng hẳn.
27 And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way: and, behold, the woman his concubine was fallen down [at] the door of the house, and her hands [were] upon the threshold.
Khi người chồng thức dậy, mở cửa ra để lên đường, thấy vợ lẽ nằm úp mặt ở đó, hai tay ở trên ngưỡng cửa.
28 And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her [up] upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.
Ông bảo: “Hãy đứng dậy! Chúng ta lên đường!” Nhưng người vợ không trả lời. Thấy thế, người ấy mới đặt vợ nằm trên lưng lừa, lên đường về nhà.
29 And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, [together] with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.
Về đến nhà, người ấy lấy dao chặt tay chân vợ lẽ ra làm mười hai mảnh. Rồi ông gửi mỗi mảnh đến mỗi đại tộc trong khắp cõi Ít-ra-ên.
30 And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak [your minds].
Mọi người thấy vậy đều nói: “Từ ngày Ít-ra-ên ra khỏi Ai Cập, người ta chưa hề thấy một việc như thế. Hãy suy xét điều đó! Chúng ta phải làm gì? Ai sẽ phản kháng?”
