Judges 15
1 But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
Ít lâu sau, vào mùa gặt lúa, Sam-sôn đi thăm vợ có đem theo một con dê con để làm quà. Ông nói: “Con muốn vào phòng của vợ con và nằm với nàng.” Nhưng cha nàng không cho phép ông vào.
2 And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: [is] not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
Cha nàng nói: “Cha tưởng con ghét nó lắm, nên đã gả nó cho bạn của con rồi. Nhưng này, em gái nó còn đẹp hơn nó nữa. Con hãy cưới em thế cho chị.”
3 And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
Sam-sôn đáp: “Lần này con làm hại người Phi-li-tin, con cũng vô tội”
4 And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.
Sam-sôn bắt 300 con chồn, buộc đuôi của từng cặp lại với nhau và buộc một bó đuốc giữa hai đuôi chồn.
5 And when he had set the brands on fire, he let [them] go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards [and] olives.
Ông đốt đuốc, thả chồn vào đồng ruộng người Phi-li-tin. Lửa thiêu hủy hết lúa đã bó, lúa chưa gặt, vườn nho và cây ô-liu của họ.
6 Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
Người Phi-li-tin hỏi nhau: “Ai đã làm việc này?” Có người đáp: “Sam-sôn, con rể của một người Thim-na, vì người này đem vợ Sam-sôn gả cho bạn hắn.” Một số người Phi-li-tin kéo đến bắt vợ Sam-sôn và cha nàng đem thiêu sống.
7 And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
Hay tin, Sam-sôn thề: “Vì các người đã làm vậy, ta quyết không nghỉ tay cho đến khi nào báo thù xong!”
8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam.
Vậy, ông ra tay đánh giết người Phi-li-tin một trận tơi bời. Rồi ông vào sống trong một hang đá tại Ê-tam.
9 Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
Quân Phi-li-tin kéo đến đóng trong địa phận Giu-đa, tràn ra đến Lê-hi.
10 And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.
Người Giu-đa hỏi người Phi-li-tin: “Tại sao các ông đến đánh chúng tôi?” Người Phi-li-tin đáp: “Chúng ta tìm bắt Sam-sôn để báo thù những điều hắn đã làm cho chúng ta.”
11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines [are] rulers over us? what [is] this [that] thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
Vậy 3.000 người Giu-đa kéo nhau đến hang đá Ê-tam. Họ hỏi Sam-sôn: “Ông không biết người Phi-li-tin đang cai trị chúng ta sao, mà còn hành động như thế để chúng tôi phải liên lụy?” Sam-sôn giải thích: “Tôi chỉ báo trả những điều họ làm cho tôi.”
12 And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.
Nhưng người Giu-đa trả lời Sam-sôn: “Chúng tôi đến để bắt ông trói lại, giải nạp cho người Phi-li-tin.” Sam-sôn nói: “Được rồi. Nhưng các ông phải thề sẽ không giết tôi.”
13 And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
Họ hứa: “Được, chúng tôi chỉ trói ông lại, đem nạp cho người Phi-li-tin, chứ không giết ông đâu.” Vậy, họ lấy hai sợi dây thừng còn mới trói Sam-sôn và dẫn ông ra khỏi hang đá.
14 [And] when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that [were] upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
Khi họ dẫn Sam-sôn về đến Lê-hi, người Phi-li-tin nghe tin reo hò mừng rỡ. Nhưng Thần của Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng trên Sam-sôn, ông giựt đứt dây thừng trói tay như một sợi chỉ gai gặp lửa.
15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
Thấy một cái xương hàm lừa, ông nhặt lên đánh chết 1.000 người Phi-li-tin.
16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
Rồi, Sam-sôn nói: “Với một cái hàm lừa, ta giết thây chất thành đống! Với một cái hàm lừa, ta giết cả nghìn người.”
17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi.
Nói xong, ông ném cái hàm lừa đi. Từ đó, nơi này được gọi là “Đồi Hàm Lừa.”
18 And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
Lúc ấy ông cảm thấy khát nước quá, nên xin Chúa Hằng Hữu: “Chúa vừa dùng con giải thoát dân Ngài, nay đầy tớ Chúa phải chết khát và rơi vào tay quân thù không cắt bì này sao?”
19 But God clave an hollow place that [was] in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore, which [is] in Lehi unto this day.
Vì vậy, Đức Chúa Trời làm vỡ một bộng đá ở Lê-hi, nước chảy ra. Sam-sôn uống và tinh thần phục hồi, phấn chấn. Và như thế, tại Lê-hi, Sam-sôn gọi suối ấy là “Suối Nước của Người Cầu Nguyện,” và suối ấy vẫn còn tại Lê-hi cho đến ngày nay.
20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
Sam-sôn làm phán quan Ít-ra-ên suốt hai mươi năm, trong thời thế lực Phi-li-tin cường thịnh.
