Jeremiah 26

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word from the LORD, saying,

যিহূদার রাজা যোশিয়ের পুত্র যিহোয়াকীমের রাজত্বের প্রথমদিকে, সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য উপস্থিত হল:

2 Thus saith the LORD; Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak unto all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:

“সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: তুমি সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের প্রাঙ্গণে গিয়ে দাঁড়াও এবং যারা সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে উপাসনা করতে আসে, যিহূদার নগরগুলির সেই সমস্ত লোকদের কাছে কথা বলো। আমি তোমাকে যা আদেশ দিই, সেসবই তাদের বলো; একটি কথাও বাদ দেবে না।

3 If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.

হয়তো তারা শুনবে এবং প্রত্যেকে তাদের কুপথ থেকে ফিরবে। তখন আমি কোমল হব এবং তারা যে সমস্ত অন্যায় করেছে, সেগুলির জন্য তাদের উপরে যে বিপর্যয় আনার পরিকল্পনা আমি করেছিলাম, তা আমি করব না।

4 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD; If ye will not hearken to me, to walk in my law, which I have set before you,

তাদের বলো, ‘সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: তোমরা যদি আমার কথা না শোনো এবং আমার যে বিধান তোমাদের দিয়েছি, তা যদি পালন না করো,

5 To hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I sent unto you, both rising up early, and sending [them], but ye have not hearkened;

এবং যাদের আমি বারবার তোমাদের কাছে প্রেরণ করেছি, আমার সেই দাস ভাববাদীদের কথা তোমরা যদি না শোনো (যদিও তোমরা তাদের কথা শোনোনি),

6 Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

তাহলে এই গৃহকে আমি শীলোর মতো করব এবং এই নগর পৃথিবীর সব জাতির কাছে অভিশাপের পাত্রস্বরূপ হবে।’”

7 So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD.

যাজকেরা, ভাববাদীরা এবং সমস্ত লোক সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে যিরমিয়কে এই সমস্ত কথা বলতে শুনল।

8 Now it came to pass, when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking all that the LORD had commanded [him] to speak unto all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.

কিন্তু যিরমিয় যেই সমস্ত লোককে সদাপ্রভু তাঁকে যে কথা বলার আদেশ দিয়েছিলেন, সেই সমস্ত বলা সমাপ্ত করলেন, যাজকেরা, ভাববাদীরা ও সমস্ত লোক তাঁকে ধরল ও বলল, “তোমাকে অবশ্যই মরতে হবে!

9 Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the LORD, saying, This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate without an inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.

তুমি কেন ঈশ্বরের নামে এরকম ভাববাণী বলেছ যে, এই গৃহ শীলোর মতো হবে এবং এই নগর জনমানবহীন ও পরিত্যক্ত হবে?” এই বলে সমস্ত লোক সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে যিরমিয়কে ঘিরে ধরল।

10 When the princes of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the LORD, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s [house].

যিহূদার রাজকর্মচারীরা যখন এই সমস্ত কথা শুনল, তারা রাজপ্রাসাদ থেকে সদাপ্রভুর গৃহে গেল। তারা সদাপ্রভুর গৃহের নতুন-দ্বারের প্রবেশপথে গিয়ে তাদের স্থান গ্রহণ করল।

11 Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man [is] worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.

তখন যাজকেরা ও ভাববাদীরা রাজকর্মচারী ও অন্যান্য সব লোককে বললেন, “এই লোকটি যেহেতু এই নগরের বিরুদ্ধে ভাববাণী বলেছে, তাই একে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দিতে হবে। তোমরা নিজেদেরই কানে সেই কথা শুনেছ!”

12 Then spake Jeremiah unto all the princes and to all the people, saying, The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that ye have heard.

তখন যিরমিয় রাজকর্মচারীদের ও অন্যান্য সব লোকদের বললেন: “সদাপ্রভু আমাকে এই গৃহ ও এই নগর সম্বন্ধে ভাববাণী বলার জন্য প্রেরণ করেছেন, যে সকল কথা আপনারা শুনেছেন।

13 Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.

এবার আপনারা আপনাদের জীবনাচরণ ও আপনাদের কার্যকলাপের সংশোধন করুন এবং আপনাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর আদেশ পালন করুন। তাহলে সদাপ্রভু আপনাদের প্রতি কোমল হবেন এবং আপনাদের বিরুদ্ধে যে বিপর্যয় আনার কথা ঘোষণা করেছেন, তা আর নিয়ে আসবেন না।

14 As for me, behold, I [am] in your hand: do with me as seemeth good and meet unto you.

আমার কথা বলতে গেলে, আমি তো আপনাদেরই হাতে আছি; যা কিছু ভালো ও ন্যায়সংগত, আপনারা আমার প্রতি তাই করুন।

15 But know ye for certain, that if ye put me to death, ye shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof: for of a truth the LORD hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.

তবুও, আপনারা নিশ্চয় জানবেন, আপনারা যদি আমাকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দেন, আপনারা নির্দোষের রক্তপাতের অপরাধ নিজেদের, এই নগরের এবং এর মধ্যে বসবাসকারী সব মানুষের উপরে নিয়ে আসবেন। কারণ সদাপ্রভু সত্যিই এসব কথা আপনাদের কর্ণগোচরে বলার জন্য আমাকে প্রেরণ করেছেন।”

16 Then said the princes and all the people unto the priests and to the prophets; This man [is] not worthy to die: for he hath spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God.

এরপর রাজকর্মচারীরা ও অন্য সব লোক যাজকদের ও ভাববাদীদের এই কথা বললেন, “এই মানুষটির মৃত্যুদণ্ড হবে না! সে আমাদের কাছে আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর নামে কথা বলেছে।”

17 Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spake to all the assembly of the people, saying,

দেশের কোনো কোনো প্রাচীন সামনে এগিয়ে এসে জমায়েত হওয়া সব লোককে বললেন,

18 Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed [like] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

“মোরেশৎ নিবাসী মীখা যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের সময়ে ভাববাণী করেছিলেন। তিনি যিহূদার সব লোককে বলেছিলেন, ‘বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: “‘সিয়োনকে মাঠের মতো চাষ করা হবে, জেরুশালেম এক ধ্বংসস্তূপে পরিণত হবে, মন্দিরের পাহাড় কাঁটাঝোপে ঢাকা পড়বে।’

19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him at all to death? did he not fear the LORD, and besought the LORD, and the LORD repented him of the evil which he had pronounced against them? Thus might we procure great evil against our souls.

যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয় বা যিহূদার অন্য কোনো লোক কি তাঁকে মৃত্যুদণ্ড দিয়েছিলেন? হিষ্কিয় কি সদাপ্রভুকে ভয় করে তাঁর কৃপা যাচ্ঞা করেননি? আর সদাপ্রভুও কি কোমল হননি? তিনি তাদের বিরুদ্ধে যে বিপর্যয়ের কথা ঘোষণা করেছিলেন, তা আর নিয়ে এলেন না। আমরা তো নিজেদের উপরে এক ভয়ংকর বিপর্যয় প্রায় নিয়ে এসেছি!”

20 And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the LORD, Urijah the son of Shemaiah of Kirjath-jearim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah:

(সেই সময় কিরিয়ৎ-যিয়ারীম নিবাসী শময়িয়ের পুত্র ঊরিয় সদাপ্রভুর নামে ভাববাণী বলতেন। তিনিও যিরমিয়ের মতোই এই নগর ও এই দেশের বিরুদ্ধে একই ভাববাণী বলেছিলেন।

21 And when Jehoiakim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Urijah heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Egypt;

যখন রাজা যিহোয়াকীম, তাঁর সব বীর যোদ্ধা ও রাজকর্মচারীরা এসব কথা শুনলেন, রাজা ঊরিয়কে মেরে ফেলতে চাইলেন। ঊরিয় সেই কথা শুনে প্রাণভয়ে মিশরে পলায়ন করলেন।

22 And Jehoiakim the king sent men into Egypt, [namely], Elnathan the son of Achbor, and [certain] men with him into Egypt.

রাজা যিহোয়াকীম তখন অক্‌বোরের পুত্র ইল্‌নাথনকে অন্য কয়েকজনের সঙ্গে মিশরে প্রেরণ করলেন।

23 And they fetched forth Urijah out of Egypt, and brought him unto Jehoiakim the king; who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body into the graves of the common people.

তারা ঊরিয়কে মিশর থেকে এনে রাজা যিহোয়াকীমের কাছে উপস্থিত করল। রাজা তাঁকে তরোয়াল দিয়ে মেরে ফেললেন এবং সাধারণ লোকদের কবরস্থানে তাঁর দেহ নিক্ষেপ করলেন।)

24 Nevertheless the hand of Ahikam the son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.

এছাড়া, শাফনের পুত্র অহীকাম যিরমিয়কে সমর্থন করায়, তাঁকে মৃত্যুর জন্য লোকদের হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হল না।
