Jeremiah 11

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে যিরমিয়ের কাছে এই বাক্য উপস্থিত হল:

2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

“তুমি এই নিয়মের শর্তাবলির কথা শোনো এবং সেগুলি যিহূদার লোকেদের ও যারা জেরুশালেমে বসবাস করে, তাদের গিয়ে বলো।

3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Cursed [be] the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

তাদের বলো যে, ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: ‘অভিশপ্ত সেই মানুষ, যে এই নিয়মের শর্তাবলি পালন না করে,

4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day [that] I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

এই নিয়মের কথা আমি তোমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের কাছে বলেছিলাম, যখন আমি তাদের মিশর থেকে, লোহা গলানো চুল্লি থেকে বের করে এনেছিলাম।’ আমি বলেছিলাম, ‘আমার কথা মেনে চলো ও আমি তোমাদের যা আদেশ দিই, সেগুলি সব পালন করো, তাহলে তোমরা আমার প্রজা হবে এবং আমি তোমাদের ঈশ্বর হব।

5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as [it is] this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O LORD.

তাহলেই তোমাদের পিতৃপুরুষদের সঙ্গে কৃত আমার শপথ আমি পূর্ণ করব, যেন আমি তাদের দুধ ও মধু প্রবাহিত দেশ দিতে পারি,’ যে দেশটি তোমরা এখন অধিকার করে আছ।” উত্তরে আমি বললাম, “আমেন, সদাপ্রভু।”

6 Then the LORD said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন, “তুমি এই সমস্ত বাক্যের কথা যিহূদার নগরগুলিতে ও জেরুশালেমের পথে পথে গিয়ে ঘোষণা করো: ‘তোমরা এই নিয়মের শর্তাবলির কথা শোনো ও সেগুলি পালন করো।

7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day [that] I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, [even] unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

তোমাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের মিশর থেকে বের করে আনার সময় থেকে আজ পর্যন্ত, আমি তাদের বারবার সাবধান করে বলেছিলাম, “আমার বাধ্য হও।”

8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded [them] to do; but they did [them] not.

তারা কিন্তু শোনেনি বা আমার কথায় মনোযোগ দেয়নি; পরিবর্তে তারা নিজেদের মন্দ হৃদয়ের একগুঁয়ে মনোভাবের অনুসারী হয়েছিল। তাই আমি যে রকম আদেশ করেছিলাম, তারা তা পালন করেনি বলে আমি নিয়মে উল্লিখিত সব শাস্তি তাদের উপরে নিয়ে এসেছি।’”

9 And the LORD said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

তারপর সদাপ্রভু আমাকে বললেন, “যিহূদার লোকদের ও যারা জেরুশালেমে বসবাস করে তাদের মধ্যে একটি ষড়যন্ত্র চলছে।

10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

যারা আমার বাক্য পালন করা অগ্রাহ্য করেছিল, তারা তাদের সেই পূর্বপুরুষদের পাপের পথে ফিরে গিয়েছে, যারা অন্যান্য দেবদেবীর সেবা করার জন্য তাদের অনুসারী হয়েছিল। ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদা, এই উভয় কুলের লোকেরা সেই চুক্তি ভেঙে ফেলেছে, যা আমি তাদের পূর্বপুরুষদের সঙ্গে করেছিলাম।

11 Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

সেই কারণে, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন: ‘আমি তাদের উপরে যে বিপর্যয় নিয়ে আসব, তা তারা এড়াতে পারবে না। তারা যদিও আমার কাছে কাঁদবে, আমি কিন্তু তাদের কথা শুনব না।

12 Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

যিহূদার নগরগুলি ও জেরুশালেমের লোকেরা গিয়ে তাদের দেবদেবীর কাছে কাঁদবে, যাদের উদ্দেশে তারা ধূপদাহ করেছিল, কিন্তু যখন বিপর্যয় এসে পড়বে, তারা তাদের কোনো সাহায্যই করতে পারবে না।

13 For [according to] the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and [according to] the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to [that] shameful thing, [even] altars to burn incense unto Baal.

হে যিহূদা, তোমার যত নগর, তত দেবতা; আর জেরুশালেমে রাস্তার যত সংখ্যা, তোমরা লজ্জাকর দেবতা বায়ালের উদ্দেশে ধূপদাহ করার জন্য তত সংখ্যক বেদি স্থাপন করেছ।’

14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear [them] in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

“তুমি এই সমস্ত লোকের জন্য প্রার্থনা কোরো না। তাদের জন্য কোনো অনুনয় বা আবেদন উৎসর্গ কোরো না, কারণ বিপর্যয়ের সময়ে তারা যখন আমাকে ডাকবে, আমি তাদের কথা শুনব না।

15 What hath my beloved to do in mine house, [seeing] she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

“আমার প্রিয়তমা আমার মন্দিরে কী করছে, যখন সে অনেকের সঙ্গে তার মন্দ পরিকল্পনার ছক কষেছে? উৎসর্গীকৃত মাংসের জন্য কি তোমাদের শাস্তি এড়াবে? যখন তোমরা তোমাদের দুষ্টতায় মেতে পড়ো, তখনও তোমরা আনন্দ করো।”

16 The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, [and] of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

সদাপ্রভু তোমাকে সমৃদ্ধিশালী এক জলপাই গাছ বলে ডেকেছিলেন, যার ফল দেখতে ছিল অতি মনোহর। কিন্তু এক প্রবল ঝড়ের গর্জনে, তিনি তাতে আগুন দেবেন, তার শাখাগুলি সব ভেঙে যাবে।

17 For the LORD of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.

বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, তিনি তোমাকে রোপণ করেছিলেন, তিনি তোমার বিপর্যয়ের রায় ঘোষণা করেছেন। এর কারণ হল, ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদা কুলের লোকেরা কেবলই মন্দ কাজ করেছে এবং বায়াল-দেবতার কাছে ধূপদাহ করে আমার ক্রোধের উদ্রেক করেছে।

18 And the LORD hath given me knowledge [of it], and I know [it: ] then thou shewedst me their doings.

সদাপ্রভু আমাকে তাদের ষড়যন্ত্রের কথা বলে দিয়েছিলেন, তাই আমি তা জানতে পেরেছিলাম। তিনি সেই সময় আমাকে দেখিয়েছিলেন, তারা কী করছিল।

19 But I [was] like a lamb [or] an ox [that] is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

আমি একটি কোমল মেষশাবকের মতো হয়েছিলাম, যাকে ঘাতকের কাছে নিয়ে যাওয়া হয়। আমি বুঝতে পারিনি যে, তারা আমারই বিরুদ্ধে ষড়যন্ত্র রচনা করেছে। তারা বলছিল, “এসো আমরা গাছ ও তার ফলগুলি কেটে ফেলি, এসো জীবিতদের দেশ থেকে আমরা তাকে উচ্ছিন্ন করে ফেলি, যেন তার নাম আর কখনও স্মরণে না আসে।”

20 But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

কিন্তু হে বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু, তুমি ন্যায়পরায়ণতায় বিচার করে থাকো এবং হৃদয় ও মনের পরীক্ষা করে থাকো, তাদের উপরে তোমার প্রতিশোধ গ্রহণ আমাকে দেখতে দাও, কারণ তোমারই কাছে আমি আমার পক্ষসমর্থন করেছি।

21 Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:

সেই কারণে, সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, যারা তোমার প্রাণ হরণ করতে চায়, সেই অনাথোতের লোকদের, যারা বলছিল, “সদাপ্রভুর নামে তুমি কোনো ভাববাণী বলবে না, বললে আমাদের হাতে তোমাকে মরতে হবে,”

22 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:

অতএব তাদের সম্পর্কে বাহিনীগণের সদাপ্রভু এই কথা বলেন, “আমি তাদের শাস্তি দেব। তাদের যুবকেরা তরোয়ালের আঘাতে এবং তাদের পুত্রকন্যারা দুর্ভিক্ষে মারা যাবে।

23 And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, [even] the year of their visitation.

তাদের মধ্যে অবশিষ্ট কেউই বেঁচে থাকবে না, কারণ তাদের শাস্তির বছরে, আমি অনাথোতের লোকদের উপরে বিপর্যয় নিয়ে আসব।”
