Genesis 19
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing [them] rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
Et les deux anges arrivèrent à Sodome le soir; or Lot était assis à la porte de Sodome. Et les ayant vus, Lot se leva, alla au devant d'eux et se prosterna la face contre terre
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
et dit: Oh! je vous prie, mes seigneurs, descendez à la maison de votre serviteur et passez-y la nuit, et baignez vos pieds: puis vous vous lèverez le matin et continuerez votre route. Et ils dirent: Non, mais nous voulons passer la nuit dans la place.
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
Et il insista fort auprès d'eux, et ils descendirent chez lui et entrèrent dans sa maison. Et il leur prépara un repas et fit cuire des galettes azymes, et ils mangèrent.
4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, [even] the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
Ils n'étaient pas encore couchés que les hommes de la ville, les hommes de Sodome, cernèrent la maison, depuis l'enfant au vieillard, tout le peuple en masse.
5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where [are] the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Et ils appelèrent Lot et lui dirent: Où sont les hommes arrivés chez toi cette nuit? Amène-nous-les dehors, afin que nous les connaissions!
6 And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
Et Lot sortit vers eux devant la porte qu'il referma derrière lui;
7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
et il dit: Oh! mes frères, ne commettez pas le crime!
8 Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as [is] good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
Eh bien! voici, j'ai deux filles qui n'ont point encore connu d'homme; je vais donc vous les amener dehors, et vous en userez avec elles à votre gré; seulement ne faites rien à ces hommes; car c'est dans cette supposition qu'ils sont entrés à l'ombre de mon toit.
9 And they said, Stand back. And they said [again], This one [fellow] came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, [even] Lot, and came near to break the door.
Et ils dirent: Avance davantage. Et ils dirent: L'individu est venu en hôte, et il veut faire le juge! Eh bien! nous te ferons pis qu'à eux. Et ils pressèrent fortement l'homme, Lot, et ils approchaient pour enfoncer la porte.
10 But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
Alors les deux hommes étendirent et retirèrent Lot vers eux dans la maison et fermèrent la porte.
11 And they smote the men that [were] at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.
Quant aux gens qui se tenaient devant la porte de la maison, ils les frappèrent de cécité depuis le plus petit au plus grand; et ceci se tourmentèrent à trouver la porte.
12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring [them] out of this place:
Et les hommes dirent à Lot: Tous ceux que tu as encore ici, tes gendres et tes fils et tes filles, et tous ceux qui tiennent à toi dans la ville, fais-les sortir de ce lieu.
13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it.
Car nous allons détruire ce lieu-ci, parce que ces gens sont grandement décriés devant l'Éternel, et l'Éternel nous a envoyés pour détruire la ville.
14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
Alors Lot sortit et parla à ses gendres qui prétendaient à ses filles et dit: Mettez-vous en devoir de sortir de ce lieu-ci, car l'Éternel va détruire la ville. Mais il eut, aux yeux de ses gendres, l'air de plaisanter.
15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city.
Et au lever de l'aurore, les anges insistèrent auprès de Lot et dirent: Lève-toi, prends ta femme et tes deux filles qui se trouvent-là, de peur que tu ne périsses par suite du crime de cette ville.
16 And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city.
Et comme il tardait, les hommes le prirent sa main et la main de sa femme et la main de ses deux filles, parce que l'Éternel voulait l'épargner, et ils le firent sortir, et le laissèrent en dehors de la ville.
17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
Et après les avoir fait sortir, l'un [d'eux] dit: Sauve-loi, au nom de ta vie, ne regarde pas derrière toi, et ne t'arrête pas dans tout le district! Sauve-toi sur la montagne pour ne pas périr.
18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord:
Et Lot leur dit: Oh! non! Seigneur;
19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
vois donc! ton serviteur a trouvé grâce à tes yeux, et grand a été l'amour que tu m'as témoigné pour me conserver la vie; mais je ne puis me sauver sur la montagne, le désastre pourrait m'atteindre et je périrais.
20 Behold now, this city [is] near to flee unto, and it [is] a little one: Oh, let me escape thither, ([is] it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.
Vois donc! Cette ville-là est à portée pour y fuir, et elle est petite: c'est là que je voudrais me réfugier (n'est-elle pas petite?) afin que mon âme vive.
21 And he said unto him, See, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken.
Et Il lui dit: Voici, je veux aussi te satisfaire en ce point, en ne bouleversant pas la ville dont tu parles.
22 Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Hâte-toi de t'y réfugier, car je ne puis rien faire que tu n'y sois arrivé. – C'est pourquoi l'on donne à cette ville le nom de Tsohar (petite).
23 The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.
Le soleil se levait sur la terre, lorsque Lot entra dans Tsohar.
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
Et l'Éternel fit tomber sur Sodome et sur Gomorrhe une pluie de soufre et de feu, de par l'Éternel depuis le ciel,
25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
et Il bouleversa ces villes et toute la contrée, et la population des villes et les productions du sol.
26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Mais sa femme regarda derrière elle, et elle devint statue de sel.
27 And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
Et Abraham se leva le matin et gagna le lieu où il s'était tenu en la présence de l'Éternel,
28 And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace.
et porta ses regards à ses pieds sur Sodome et Gomorrhe et toute la contrée du district, et il vit, et voilà qu'une fumée s'élevait de la terre, comme la fumée d'une fournaise.
29 And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
Et quand Dieu détruisit les villes du district, Dieu se souvint d'Abraham et fit échapper Lot du milieu du bouleversement, lorsqu'il bouleversa les villes où habitait Lot.
30 And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.
Et de Tsohar Lot gagna la hauteur, et il se fixa sur la montagne, et il avait ses deux filles avec lui, car il redoutait de demeurer à Tsohar. Et il habitait une grotte, lui et ses deux filles.
31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father [is] old, and [there is] not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
Alors L'aînée dit à la cadette: Notre père est vieux, et il n'y a plus d'homme sur la terre pour s'approcher de nous selon l'usage de tout le monde;
32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
viens! faisons prendre du vin à notre père et couchons avec lui, et ainsi nous donnerons la vie à une lignée par notre père.
33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Elles firent donc boire du vin à leur père cette nuit-là, et l'aînée s'introduisit et coucha avec son père, qui ne s'aperçut ni quand elle se coucha, ni quand elle se leva.
34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, [and] lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
Et le lendemain l'aînée dit à la cadette: Voici, j'ai couché la nuit dernière avec mon père: faisons-lui encore boire du vin cette nuit, et introduis-toi et couche avec lui et nous donnerons vie à une lignée par notre père.
35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Elles firent donc encore cette nuit boire du vin à leur père. Et la cadette se leva et coucha avec lui, et il ne s'aperçut ni quand elle se coucha ni quand elle se leva.
36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
Et les deux filles de Lot devinrent enceintes du fait de leur père.
37 And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same [is] the father of the Moabites unto this day.
Et l'aînée enfanta un fils et elle l'appela du nom de Moab (issu du père); c'est le père des Moabites jusqu'aujourd'hui.
38 And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben-ammi: the same [is] the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
Et la cadette aussi enfanta un fils et elle l'appela du nom de Ben Ammi (fils de mon peuple); c'est le père des fils d'Ammon, jusqu'aujourd'hui.
