Daniel 4
1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
Rey Nabucodonosor, a los pueblos de todas las naciones y lenguas del mundo entero: Les deseo lo mejor!
2 I thought it good to shew the signs and wonders that the high God hath wrought toward me.
Tengo el placer de compartir con ustedes un relato de las señales y maravillas que el Dios Altísimo ha hecho por mí.
3 How great [are] his signs! and how mighty [are] his wonders! his kingdom [is] an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion [is] from generation to generation.
Sus señales son increíbles. Sus maravillas son asombrosas. Su reino es un reino eterno, y su gobierno durará por todas las generaciones.
4 I Nebuchadnezzar was at rest in mine house, and flourishing in my palace:
A mí, Nabucodonosor, me iba bien en casa, viviendo felizmente en mi palacio.
5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.
Pero una noche tuve un sueño que me asustó mucho: vi visiones que me aterrorizaron mientras estaba acostado en mi cama.
6 Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise [men] of Babylon before me, that they might make known unto me the interpretation of the dream.
Así que ordené que trajeran ante mí a todos los sabios de Babilonia para que me explicaran el sueño.
7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers: and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known unto me the interpretation thereof.
Cuando vinieron los magos, los encantadores, los astrólogos y los adivinos, les conté el sueño, pero no pudieron explicarme lo que significaba.
8 But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom [is] the spirit of the holy gods: and before him I told the dream, [saying],
Al final, Daniel se presentó ante mí y le conté el sueño. (También se llama Beltsasar, como mi dios, y tiene el espíritu de los dioses santos en él).
9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods [is] in thee, and no secret troubleth thee, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and the interpretation thereof.
“Beltsasar, jefe de los magos”, yo dije: “Ciertamente sé que el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti y que ningún misterio te resulta difícil de explicar. Así que cuéntame lo que he visto en mi sueño y explícame lo que significa.
10 Thus [were] the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof [was] great.
“Mientras soñaba en la cama, vi un árbol en medio de la tierra, un árbol muy grande.
11 The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth:
Crecía fuerte y alto, y llegaba hasta el cielo, de modo que podía ser visto por todo el mundo.
12 The leaves thereof [were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it [was] meat for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it.
Sus hojas eran hermosas y estaba lleno de frutos que todos podían comer. Los animales salvajes descansaban a su sombra y los pájaros anidaban en sus ramas. Alimentaba a todos los seres vivos.
13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and, behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven;
“Mientras soñaba, acostado en mi cama, vi a un vigilante, un santo, bajando del cielo.
14 He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off his branches, shake off his leaves, and scatter his fruit: let the beasts get away from under it, and the fowls from his branches:
Y gritó en voz alta: ‘¡Destruyan el árbol y corten sus ramas! Sacudan sus hojas y dispersen sus frutos. Alejen a los animales de su sombra y espanten a las aves de sus ramas.
15 Nevertheless leave the stump of his roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and [let] his portion [be] with the beasts in the grass of the earth:
Pero dejen el tronco y sus raíces en la tierra, y átenlo con hierro y bronce, rodeado de la hierba nueva del campo. Dejen que él se empape del rocío del cielo, y que viva con los animales afuera, en medio de la maleza.
16 Let his heart be changed from man’s, and let a beast’s heart be given unto him; and let seven times pass over him.
Que su mente se vuelva como la de un animal. Y que sea así por siete veces.
17 This matter [is] by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
Este es el decreto transmitido por los vigías, el veredicto declarado por los santos para que todos los vivos sepan que el Altísimo gobierna los reinos humanos. Él se los da a quien quiere: pone al frente a los más humildes’.
18 This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen. Now thou, O Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation thereof, forasmuch as all the wise [men] of my kingdom are not able to make known unto me the interpretation: but thou [art] able; for the spirit of the holy gods [is] in thee.
“Esto es lo que yo, el rey Nabucodonosor, vi en mi sueño. Ahora te toca a ti, Beltsasar, darme la explicación como lo has hecho antes. Ninguno de los sabios de mi reino pudo explicármelo. Pero tú puedes, porque el espíritu de los dioses santos está en ti”.
19 Then Daniel, whose name [was] Belteshazzar, was astonied for one hour, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spake, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream, or the interpretation thereof, trouble thee. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, the dream [be] to them that hate thee, and the interpretation thereof to thine enemies.
Cuando Daniel (también llamado Beltsasar) escuchó esto, se angustió por un tiempo, perturbado mientras pensaba en ello. El rey le dijo: “Beltsasar, no te preocupes por el sueño y lo que significa”. “Mi señor, sólo deseo que este sueño sea para los que te odian y la explicación para tus enemigos”, respondió Daniel.
20 The tree that thou sawest, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached unto the heaven, and the sight thereof to all the earth;
“El árbol que viste crecía fuerte y alto, llegando a lo alto del cielo para que pudiera ser visto por todos en el mundo entero.
21 Whose leaves [were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it [was] meat for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the fowls of the heaven had their habitation:
Sus hojas eran hermosas y estaba lleno de frutos que todos podían comer. Los animales salvajes vivían a su sombra y los pájaros anidaban en sus ramas.
22 It [is] thou, O king, that art grown and become strong: for thy greatness is grown, and reacheth unto heaven, and thy dominion to the end of the earth.
Este eres tú, Majestad. Te has hecho fuerte, tu poder se ha hecho tan grande que ha llegado hasta el cielo, y tu dominio se extiende hasta los confines de la tierra.
23 And whereas the king saw a watcher and an holy one coming down from heaven, and saying, Hew the tree down, and destroy it; yet leave the stump of the roots thereof in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and [let] his portion [be] with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him;
“Entonces Su Majestad vio bajar del cielo a un vigilante, un santo, que dijo: ‘Corten el árbol y destrúyanlo, pero dejen el tronco y sus raíces en la tierra, y átenlo con hierro y bronce, rodeado de la hierba nueva del campo. Que se empape con el rocío del cielo y que viva con los animales de fuera, en la maleza. Que su mente se vuelva como la de un animal. Que sea así por siete veces’.
24 This [is] the interpretation, O king, and this [is] the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:
“Esto es lo que significa, Su Majestad, y lo que el Altísimo ha decretado que le sucederá a mi señor el rey.
25 That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
Serás expulsado de la sociedad humana y vivirás con los animales salvajes. Comerás hierba como el ganado, y te empaparás del rocío del cielo. Así estarás durante siete veces hasta que reconozcas que el Altísimo gobierna los reinos humanos y que se los da a quienes él escoge.
26 And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.
Sin embargo, como fue decretado, el tronco y sus raíces deben quedar en la tierra. Tu reino te será devuelto cuando reconozcas que el Cielo gobierna.
27 Wherefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable unto thee, and break off thy sins by righteousness, and thine iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor; if it may be a lengthening of thy tranquillity.
“Así que, Majestad, hazme caso. Deja de pecar y haz lo que es correcto. Acaba con tus iniquidades y sé misericordioso con los oprimidos. Tal vez entonces las cosas sigan yendo bien para ti”.
28 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar.
(Sin embargo, todo esto le sucedió al rey Nabucodonosor.
29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon.
Doce meses después estaba caminando sobre el tejado del palacio real de Babilonia.
30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?
Él dijo: “¡Yo fui quien construyó esta gran ciudad de Babilonia! Por mi propio gran poder la construí como mi residencia real para mi majestuosa gloria!”
31 While the word [was] in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, [saying], O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.
Las palabras aún estaban en los labios del rey cuando llegó una voz del cielo: “Rey Nabucodonosor, esto es lo que se ha decretado respecto a ti: el reino te ha sido quitado.
32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling [shall be] with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.
Serás expulsado de la sociedad humana y vivirás con los animales salvajes. Comerás hierba como el ganado, y te empaparás del rocío del cielo. Estarás así durante siete veces hasta que reconozcas que el Altísimo gobierna los reinos humanos y que los entrega a quien él quiere”.
33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ [feathers], and his nails like birds’ [claws].
Inmediatamente se cumplió el decreto, y Nabucodonosor fue expulsado de la sociedad humana. Comió hierba como el ganado, y su cuerpo se empapó del rocío del cielo. Sus cabellos crecieron enmarañados como los de un buitre, y sus uñas como las de un pájaro).
34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom [is] from generation to generation:
Pasado el tiempo, yo, Nabucodonosor, miré al cielo y mi cordura volvió a mí. Bendije y alabé al Altísimo y adoré al que vive para siempre. Su gobierno es un gobierno eterno, y su reino dura por todas las generaciones.
35 And all the inhabitants of the earth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and [among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
Todos los que viven en la tierra son como nada comparados con él. Él hace lo que quiere entre las huestes celestiales y entre los que viven en la tierra. Nadie puede retenerlo de lo que hace, ni preguntarle: “¿Qué haces?”.
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
Cuando mi cordura regresó, también volvieron a mí mi reino, mi majestad y mi esplendor. Mis consejeros y nobles vinieron a buscarme, y fui restaurado como gobernante de mi reino, aún más grande que antes.
37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works [are] truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.
Así que ahora yo, Nabucodonosor, alabo, honro y glorifico al Rey del Cielo, porque todo lo que hace es correcto y sus caminos son verdaderos. Él es capaz de humillar a los que son orgullosos.
