Acts 25
1 Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Cæsarea to Jerusalem.
Entrando pois Festo na provincia, subiu d'ali a tres dias de Cesarea a Jerusalem.
2 Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
E o summo sacerdote e os principaes dos judeos compareceram perante elle contra Paulo, e lhe rogaram,
3 And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.
Pedindo favor contra elle, para que o fizesse vir a Jerusalem, armando-lhe ciladas para o matarem no caminho.
4 But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cæsarea, and that he himself would depart shortly [thither].
Porém Festo respondeu que Paulo estava guardado em Cesarea, e que elle brevemente partiria para lá.
5 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with [me], and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.
Os que pois, disse, d'entre vós podem, desçam juntamente comigo, e, se n'este varão houver algum crime, accusem-n'o.
6 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cæsarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.
E, não se havendo entre elles detido mais de dez dias, desceu a Cesarea; e no dia seguinte, assentando-se no tribunal, mandou que trouxessem Paulo.
7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.
E, chegando elle, o rodeiaram os judeos que haviam descido de Jerusalem, trazendo contra Paulo muitas e graves accusações, que não podiam provar.
8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cæsar, have I offended any thing at all.
Pelo que, em sua defeza, disse: Eu não pequei em coisa alguma contra a lei dos judeos, nem contra o templo, nem contra Cesar.
9 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?
Porém Festo, querendo comprazer com os judeos, respondendo a Paulo, disse: Queres tu subir a Jerusalem, e ser lá perante mim julgado ácerca d'estas coisas?
10 Then said Paul, I stand at Cæsar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.
E Paulo disse: Estou perante o tribunal de Cesar, onde convem que seja julgado; não fiz aggravo algum aos judeos, como tu muito bem sabes;
11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cæsar.
Porque, se fiz algum aggravo, ou commetti alguma coisa digna de morte, não recuso morrer; porém, se nada ha das coisas de que estes me accusam, ninguem me pode entregar a elles; appello para Cesar.
12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Cæsar? unto Cæsar shalt thou go.
Então Festo, tendo fallado com o conselho, respondeu: Appellaste para Cesar? para Cesar irás.
13 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cæsarea to salute Festus.
E, passados alguns dias, o rei Agrippa e Berenice vieram a Cesarea, a saudar Festo.
14 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul’s cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:
E, como ali se detiveram muitos dias, Festo contou ao rei os negocios de Paulo, dizendo: Um certo varão foi deixado por Felix aqui preso,
15 About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed [me], desiring [to have] judgment against him.
Por cujo respeito os principaes dos sacerdotes e os anciãos dos judeos, estando eu em Jerusalem, compareceram perante mim, pedindo sentença contra elle.
16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.
Aos quaes respondi não ser costume dos romanos entregar algum homem á morte, sem que o accusado tenha presentes os seus accusadores, e tenha logar de defender-se da accusação.
17 Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.
De sorte que, chegando elles aqui juntos, no dia seguinte, sem fazer dilação alguma, assentado no tribunal, mandei trazer o homem.
18 Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
Ácerca do qual, estando presentes os accusadores, nenhuma coisa apontaram d'aquellas que eu suspeitava.
19 But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.
Tinham, porém, contra elle algumas questões ácerca da sua superstição, e de um certo Jesus, defunto, que Paulo affirmava viver.
20 And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked [him] whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.
E, estando eu perplexo ácerca da inquirição d'esta causa, disse se queria ir a Jerusalem, e lá ser julgado ácerca d'estas coisas.
21 But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Cæsar.
E, appellando Paulo para ser reservado ao conhecimento de Augusto, mandei que o guardassem até que o enviasse a Cesar.
22 Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.
Então Agrippa disse a Festo: Bem quizera eu tambem ouvir esse homem. E elle disse: Ámanhã o ouvirás.
23 And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus’ commandment Paul was brought forth.
De sorte que, no dia seguinte, vindo Agrippa e Berenice, com muito apparato, e entrando no auditorio com os tribunos e varões principaes da cidade, trouxeram a Paulo por mandado de Festo.
24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and [also] here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.
E Festo disse: Rei Agrippa, e todos os varões que estaes presentes comnosco: aqui vêdes aquelle de quem toda a multidão dos judeos me tem fallado, tanto em Jerusalem como aqui, clamando que não convém que viva mais
25 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.
Porém, achando eu que nenhuma coisa digna de morte fizera, e appellando elle mesmo tambem para Augusto, tenho determinado enviar-lh'o.
26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.
Do qual não tenho coisa alguma certa que escreva ao meu senhor, pelo que perante vós o trouxe, e mórmente perante ti, ó rei Agrippa, para que, feita informação, tenha alguma coisa que escrever.
27 For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes [laid] against him.
Porque me parece contra a razão enviar um preso, e não notificar contra elle as accusações.
