2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,

Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, — pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est en Jésus-Christ, —

2 To Timothy, [my] dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

à Timothée, mon enfant bien-aimé. Que la grâce, la miséricorde et la paix te soient données de la part de Dieu, le Père, et de Jésus-Christ, notre Seigneur!

3 I thank God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;

Je rends grâces à Dieu que je sers, comme mes ancêtres l'ont fait, avec une conscience pure, faisant mention de toi sans cesse, nuit et jour, dans mes prières.

4 Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Car je me souviens de tes larmes, et j'ai un grand désir de te voir, afin d'être rempli de joie.

5 When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

Je garde aussi le souvenir de ta foi sincère, la foi qui demeura d'abord en Lois, ton aïeule, et en Eunice, ta mère, et qui, j'en suis persuadé, demeure aussi en toi.

6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

C'est pourquoi, je te recommande de rallumer le don de Dieu, que tu as reçu par l'imposition de mes mains.

7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Car Dieu ne nous a pas donné un esprit de timidité, mais un esprit de force, d'amour et de prudence.

8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

N'aie donc pas honte du témoignage que tu dois rendre à notre Seigneur, ni de moi, qui suis son prisonnier; mais souffre avec moi pour l'Évangile, par la force que Dieu donne.

9 Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, (aiōnios g166)

C'est lui qui nous a sauvés et qui nous a appelés, par une vocation sainte, non pas selon nos oeuvres, mais selon son propre dessein, selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant tous les siècles, (aiōnios g166)

10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

et qui a été maintenant manifestée par l'apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, lequel a détruit la mort et mis en évidence la vie et l'immortalité par l'Évangile.

11 Where unto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.

C'est pour cet Évangile que j'ai été établi prédicateur, apôtre et docteur;

12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

et telle est la cause des maux que j'endure. Mais je n'en ai point honte; car je sais en qui j'ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu'il a la puissance de garder mon dépôt jusqu'au grand jour.

13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

Conserve, dans la foi et dans la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ, le modèle des saines instructions que tu as reçues de moi.

14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

Garde le bon dépôt, par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.

15 This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.

Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m'ont abandonné; de ce nombre sont Phygelle et Hermogène.

16 The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:

Que le Seigneur fasse miséricorde à la famille d'Onésiphore; car il m'a souvent réconforté, et il n'a pas eu honte de mes chaînes.

17 But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found [me].

Bien plus, dès son arrivée à Rome, il m'a cherché avec empressement, et il m'a trouvé.

18 The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

Que le Seigneur lui-même lui donne de trouver miséricorde auprès du Seigneur, au grand jour! Tu sais aussi, mieux que personne, tous les services qu'il m'a rendus à Éphèse.
