2 Thessalonians 2

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him,

En ce qui concerne l'avènement de notre Seigneur-Jésus-Christ et notre réunion avec lui, nous vous en prions, frères,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

ne vous laissez pas si promptement troubler l'esprit, ni alarmer par une prétendue inspiration, par quelque parole ou quelque lettre qui nous serait attribuée, comme si le jour du Seigneur était proche.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for [that day shall not come], except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Que personne ne vous séduise en aucune manière. Car il faut qu'auparavant l'apostasie soit arrivée, et qu'on ait vu paraître l'homme de l'iniquité, le fils de la perdition,

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

l'adversaire qui, s'élevant au-dessus de tout ce qu'on appelle Dieu ou qu'on adore, va jusqu'à s'asseoir dans le temple de Dieu, se faisant passer lui-même pour Dieu.

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

Ne vous souvient-il pas que je vous disais ces choses, lorsque j'étais encore auprès de vous?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

Et maintenant, vous savez bien ce qui lui fait obstacle, pour qu'il ne soit manifesté qu'en son temps.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth [will let], until he be taken out of the way.

Car déjà le mystère de l'iniquité est à l'oeuvre; seulement, il faut que celui qui lui fait encore obstacle soit écarté.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Et alors sera manifesté l'impie, que le Seigneur Jésus détruira par le souffle de sa bouche, et qu'il anéantira par l'éclat de son avènement.

9 [Even him], whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Cet impie apparaîtra avec la puissance de Satan, opérant toutes sortes de miracles, de signes et de prodiges menteurs,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

et recourant à toutes les séductions de l'injustice pour la perte de ceux qui périssent, parce qu'ils n'ont pas ouvert leur coeur à l'amour de la vérité, qui les aurait sauvés.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

C'est pour cela que Dieu leur envoie une puissance d'égarement qui les fait croire au mensonge,

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

afin que tous ceux qui n'ont pas cru à la vérité, mais qui ont pris plaisir à l'injustice, soient soumis à son jugement.

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

Quant à nous, frères aimés du Seigneur, nous devons sans cesse rendre grâces à Dieu à votre sujet, parce qu'il vous a choisis, dès le commencement, pour vous donner le salut, par la sanctification de l'Esprit et par la foi en la vérité.

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

C'est à cela aussi qu'il vous a appelés par notre Évangile, pour que vous possédiez la gloire de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

Ainsi donc, frères, demeurez fermes, et retenez les enseignements que nous vous avons transmis, soit de vive voix, soit par notre lettre.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given [us] everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, (aiōnios g166)

Que notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ lui-même, et Dieu, notre Père, qui nous a aimés et nous a donnés par sa grâce une consolation éternelle et une bonne espérance, (aiōnios g166)

17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

consolent vos coeurs et vous affermissent en toute bonne oeuvre et en toute bonne parole!
