< 1 Samuel 1 >

1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name [was] Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
Ọkùnrin kan wà, láti Ramataimu-Sofimu, láti ìlú olókè Efraimu, ẹni tí orúkọ rẹ̀ ń jẹ́ Elkana, ọmọ Jerohamu, ọmọ Elihu, ọmọ Tohu, ọmọ Sufu, ará Efrata.
2 And he had two wives; the name of the one [was] Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
Ó sì ní ìyàwó méjì, orúkọ wọn ni Hana àti Penina: Penina ní ọmọ, ṣùgbọ́n Hana kò ní.
3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, [were] there.
Ní ọdọọdún, ọkùnrin yìí máa ń gòkè láti ìlú rẹ̀ láti lọ sìn àti láti ṣe ìrúbọ sí Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun jùlọ ní Ṣilo, níbi tí àwọn ọmọkùnrin Eli méjèèjì, Hofini àti Finehasi ti jẹ́ àlùfáà Olúwa.
4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
Nígbàkígbà tí ó bá kan Elkana láti ṣe ìrúbọ, òun yóò bù lára ẹran fún aya rẹ̀ Penina àti fún gbogbo àwọn ọmọ ọkùnrin àti obìnrin.
5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.
Ṣùgbọ́n ó máa ń pín ìlọ́po fun Hana nítorí pé ó fẹ́ràn rẹ̀ àti pé Olúwa ti sé e nínú.
6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.
Nítorí pé Olúwa ti sé e nínú, orogún rẹ̀ bẹ̀rẹ̀ sí ní fín níràn láti lè mú kí ó bínú.
7 And [as] he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
Eléyìí sì máa ń ṣẹlẹ̀ ní ọdọọdún. Nígbàkígbà tí Hana bá gòkè lọ sí ilé Olúwa, orogún rẹ̀ a máa fín níràn títí tí yóò fi máa sọkún tí kò sì ní lè jẹun.
8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? [am] not I better to thee than ten sons?
Elkana ọkọ rẹ̀ yóò sọ fún un pé, “Hana èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ń sọkún? Èéṣe tí ìwọ kò fi jẹun? Èéṣe tí ìwọ fi ń ba ọkàn jẹ́? Èmi kò ha ju ọmọ mẹ́wàá lọ fún ọ bí?”
9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.
Lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí wọ́n ti jẹ, tí wọ́n tún mu tán ní Ṣilo, Hana dìde wá síwájú Olúwa. Nígbà náà, Eli àlùfáà wà lórí àga ní ẹ̀gbẹ́ ẹnu-ọ̀nà ilé Olúwa ní ibi tí ó máa ń jókòó.
10 And she [was] in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.
Pẹ̀lú ẹ̀dùn ọkàn Hana sọkún gidigidi, ó sì gbàdúrà sí Olúwa.
11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
Ó sì jẹ́ ẹ̀jẹ́ wí pé, “Olúwa àwọn ọmọ-ogun, jùlọ tí ìwọ bá le bojú wo ìránṣẹ́bìnrin rẹ kí ìwọ sì rántí rẹ̀, tí ìwọ kò sì gbàgbé ìránṣẹ́ rẹ ṣùgbọ́n tí ìwọ yóò fún un ní ọmọkùnrin, nígbà náà èmi yóò sì fi fún Olúwa ní gbogbo ọjọ́ ayé rẹ̀ a kì yóò sì fi abẹ kàn án ní orí.”
12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.
Bí ó sì ṣe ń gbàdúrà sí Olúwa, Eli sì kíyèsi ẹnu rẹ̀.
13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
Hana ń gbàdúrà láti inú ọkàn rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ètè rẹ̀ ni ó ń mì, a kò gbọ́ ohùn rẹ̀. Eli rò wí pé ó ti mu ọtí yó.
14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
Eli sì wí fún un pé, “Yóò ti pẹ́ fún ọ tó tí ìwọ yóò máa yó? Mú ọtí wáìnì rẹ̀ kúrò.”
15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I [am] a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.
Hana dá a lóhùn pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, Olúwa mi, èmi ni obìnrin oníròbìnújẹ́. Èmi kò mu ọtí wáìnì tàbí ọtí líle; èmi ń tú ọkàn mi jáde sí Olúwa ni.
16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
Má ṣe mú ìránṣẹ́ rẹ gẹ́gẹ́ bí obìnrin búburú. Èmi ti ń gbàdúrà níhìn-ín nínú ìrora ọkàn àti ìbànújẹ́ mi.”
17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant [thee] thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
Eli dáhùn pé, “Máa lọ ní àlàáfíà, kí Ọlọ́run Israẹli fi ohun tí ìwọ ti béèrè ní ọwọ́ rẹ̀ fún ọ.”
18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more [sad].
Ó wí pé, “Kí ìránṣẹ́bìnrin rẹ rí oore-ọ̀fẹ́ lójú rẹ.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni obìnrin náà bá tirẹ̀ lọ, ó sì jẹun, kò sì fa ojú ro mọ́.
19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.
Wọ́n sì dìde ni kùtùkùtù òwúrọ̀, wọn wólẹ̀ sìn níwájú Olúwa, wọn padà wa sí ilé wọn ni Rama: Elkana si mọ Hana aya rẹ̀: Olúwa sì rántí rẹ̀.
20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, [saying], Because I have asked him of the LORD.
Ó sì ṣe, nígbà tí ọjọ́ rẹ̀ pé, lẹ́yìn ìgbà tí Hana lóyún, ó sì bí ọmọkùnrin kan, ó sì pe orúkọ rẹ̀ ní Samuẹli, pé, “Nítorí tí mo béèrè rẹ̀ lọ́wọ́ Olúwa.”
21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
Ọkùnrin náà Elkana, àti gbogbo àwọn ará ilé rẹ̀, gòkè lọ láti rú ẹbọ ọdún sí Olúwa, àti láti sán ẹ̀jẹ́ rẹ̀.
22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, [I will not go up] until the child be weaned, and [then] I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.
Ṣùgbọ́n Hana kò gòkè lọ; nítorí tí ó sọ fún ọkọ rẹ̀ pé, “Ó di ìgbà tí mo bá gba ọmú lẹ́nu ọmọ náà, nígbà náà ni èmi yóò mú un lọ, kí òun lè fi ara hàn níwájú Olúwa, kí ó sí máa gbé ibẹ̀ títí láé.”
23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
Elkana ọkọ rẹ̀ sì wí fún un pé, “Ṣe èyí tí ó tọ́ lójú rẹ. Dúró títí ìwọ yóò fi gba ọmú lẹ́nu rẹ̀; ṣùgbọ́n kí Olúwa sá à mú ọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ ṣẹ.” Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni obìnrin náà sì jókòó, ó sì fi ọmú fún ọmọ rẹ̀ títí ó fi gbà á lẹ́nu rẹ̀.
24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child [was] young.
Nígbà tí ó sì gba ọmú lẹ́nu rẹ̀, ó sì mú un gòkè lọ pẹ̀lú ara rẹ̀. Pẹ̀lú ẹgbọrọ màlúù mẹ́ta, àti ìyẹ̀fun efa kan, àti ìgò ọtí wáìnì kan, ó sì mú un wá sí ilé Olúwa ní Ṣilo: ọmọ náà sì wà ní ọmọdé.
25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
Wọ́n pa ẹgbọrọ màlúù, wọ́n sì mú ọmọ náà tọ Eli wá.
26 And she said, Oh my lord, [as] thy soul liveth, my lord, I [am] the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.
Hana sì wí pé, “Olúwa mi, bí ọkàn rẹ ti wà láààyè, Olúwa mi, èmi ni obìnrin náà tí ó dúró lẹ́bàá ọ̀dọ̀ rẹ níhìn-ín tí ń tọrọ lọ́dọ̀ Olúwa.
27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
Ọmọ yìí ni mo ń tọrọ; Olúwa sì fi ìdáhùn ìbéèrè tí mo béèrè lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ fún mi.
28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.
Nítorí náà pẹ̀lú, èmi fi í fún Olúwa; ní gbogbo ọjọ́ ayé rẹ̀: nítorí tí mo ti béèrè rẹ̀ fún Olúwa.” Wọn si wólẹ̀ sin Olúwa níbẹ̀.
