Romans 13

1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

প্রত্যেকেই ক্ষমতায় অধিষ্ঠিত কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে অবশ্যই বশ্যতাস্বীকার করুক, কারণ ঈশ্বর ব্যতিরেকে কোনও কর্তৃপক্ষের শাসন প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় না। যে সমস্ত কর্তৃপক্ষের অস্তিত্ব আছে, সেগুলি ঈশ্বর প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছেন।

2 Whosoever therefore resists the power, resists the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

কাজেই, যে কর্তৃত্বের বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করে, সে ঈশ্বর যা স্থাপন করেছেন, তারই বিরুদ্ধে বিদ্রোহ করে, আর যারা তা করে, তারা নিজেদের উপরে শাস্তি নিয়ে আসে।

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and you shall have praise of the same:

কারণ যারা ন্যায়সংগত কাজ করে, তাদের কাছে নয়, কিন্তু যারা অন্যায় করে, তাদের কাছে শাসকেরা ভীতির কারণস্বরূপ। কর্তৃত্বে যিনি আছেন, তাঁর কাছে তুমি কি নির্ভয় হতে চাও? তাহলে যা ন্যায়সংগত, তাই করো, তিনি তোমার প্রশংসা করবেন।

4 For he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid; for he bears not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.

কারণ তোমাদের মঙ্গল করার জন্যই তিনি ঈশ্বরের পরিচারক। কিন্তু তুমি যদি অন্যায় করো, তাহলে ভীত হও, কারণ তিনি বিনা কারণে তরোয়াল ধারণ করেন না। তিনি ঈশ্বরের পরিচারক, দুষ্কৃতীকে শাস্তিদানের জন্য তিনি ঈশ্বরের প্রতিনিধি।

5 Wherefore all of you must essentially be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

সেই কারণে, কর্তৃপক্ষের বশ্যতাধীন থাকা আবশ্যিক, কেবলমাত্র সম্ভাব্য শাস্তির জন্য নয়, কিন্তু বিবেকের কারণেও।

6 For for this cause pay all of you tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

এজন্যই তোমরা কর দিয়ে থাকো, কারণ কর্তৃপক্ষেরা ঈশ্বরের পরিচারক, যারা তাদের পূর্ণ সময় শাসনকর্মে প্রদান করেন।

7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.

প্রত্যেকের যা প্রাপ্য, তা তাকে দাও: যাঁকে কর দেওয়ার থাকে, তাঁকে কর দাও; যদি শুল্ক হয়, তাহলে শুল্ক দাও; যদি শ্রদ্ধা হয়, শ্রদ্ধা প্রদর্শন করো; যদি সম্মান হয়, তাহলে সম্মান করো।

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.

তোমরা কারও কাছে কোনো ঋণ কোরো না, কেবলমাত্র পরস্পরের কাছে ভালোবাসার ঋণ কোরো; কারণ যে তার অপরকে ভালোবাসে, সে বিধান পূর্ণরূপে পালন করেছে।

9 For this, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, You shall not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, (logos) namely, You shall love your neighbour as yourself.

“ব্যভিচার কোরো না,” “নরহত্যা কোরো না,” “চুরি কোরো না,” “লোভ কোরো না,” এই আজ্ঞাগুলি এবং আরও যে কোনো আজ্ঞা থাকুক না কেন, এই একটি আজ্ঞায় সেসবই সংকলিত হয়েছে, “তোমার প্রতিবেশীকে নিজের মতোই প্রেম করো।”

10 Love (agape) works no ill to his neighbour: therefore love (agape) is the fulfilling of the law.

ভালোবাসা প্রতিবেশীর কোনও অনিষ্ট করে না। সেই কারণে, প্রেম করাই বিধানের পূর্ণতা।

11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

আর বর্তমানকাল সম্পর্কে সচেতন হয়ে তোমরা এরকম কোরো। তোমাদের তন্দ্রা থেকে জেগে ওঠার সময় উপস্থিত হয়েছে, কারণ যখন আমরা প্রথম বিশ্বাস করেছিলাম, তখন থেকে আমাদের পরিত্রাণ আরও এগিয়ে এসেছে।

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

রাত্রি প্রায় অবসান হল, দিন এল বলে। তাই, এসো আমরা অন্ধকারের কাজকর্ম ত্যাগ করে আলোর রণসজ্জা পরিধান করি।

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

এসো, আমরা দিনের আলোর উপযুক্ত শোভন আচরণ করি, রঙ্গরস ও মত্ততায় নয়, যৌনাচার ও লাম্পট্যে নয়, মতবিরোধ ও ঈর্ষায় নয়

14 But put all of you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof.

বরং, তোমরা প্রভু যীশু খ্রীষ্টকে পরিধান করো, রক্তমাংসের অভিলাষ কীভাবে পূর্ণ করবে, সে সম্পর্কে চিন্তা কোরো না।
