Nehemiah 13
1 On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
その日モーセの書を読て民に聴しめけるに其中に録して云ふアンモニ人およびモアブ人は何時までも神の會に入べからず
2 Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: nevertheless our God turned the curse into a blessing.
是は彼らパンと水とをもてイスラエルの子孫を迎へずして還て之を詛はせんとてバラムを傭ひたりしが故なり斯りしかども我らの神はその呪詛を變て祝福となしたまへりと
3 Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.
衆人この律法を聞てのち雑りたる民を盡くイスラエルより分ち離てり
4 And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:
是より先我らの神の家の室を掌れる祭司エリアシブといふ者トビヤと近くなりたれば
5 And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where in old times they laid the food offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.
彼のために大なる室を備ふ其室は元來素祭の物乳香器皿および例によりてレビ人謳歌者門を守る者等に與ふる穀物酒油の什一ならびに祭司に與る挙祭の物を置し處なり
6 But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:
常時は我ヱルサレムに居ざりき我はバビロンの王アルタシヤスタの三十二年に王の所に往たりしが數日の後王に暇を乞て
7 And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
エルサレムに來りエリアシブがトビヤのために爲たる惡事すなはちかれがために神の家の庭に一の室を備へし事を詳悉にせり
8 And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff to Tobiah out of the chamber.
我はなはだこれを憂ひてトビヤの家の器皿をことごとくその室より投いだし
9 Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the food offering and the frankincense.
頓て命じてすべての室を潔めさせ而して神の家の器皿および素祭乳香などを再び其處に携へいれたり
10 And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.
我また査べ観しにレビ人そのうくべき分を與へられざりきこの故に其職務をなす所のレビ人および謳歌者等各々おのれの田に奔り歸りぬ
11 Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
是において我何故に神の室を棄させしやと言て牧伯等を詰り頓てまたレビ人を招き集めてその故の所に立しめたり
12 Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.
斯りしかばユダ人みな穀物酒油の什一を府庫に携へ來れり
13 And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
その時我祭司シレミヤ學士ザドクおよびレビ人ペダヤを府庫の有司とし之にマツタニヤの子ザツクルの子ハナンを副て庫をつかさどらしむ彼らは忠信なる者と思はれたればなり其職は兄弟等に分配るの事なりき
14 Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
わが神よ此事のために我を記念たまへ我神の室とその職事のために我が行ひし善事を拭ひ去たまはざれ
15 In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.
當時われ観しにユダの中にて安息日に酒榨を踏む者あり麥束を持きたりて驢馬に負するあり亦酒葡萄無花果および各種の荷を安息日にヱルサレムに携へいるるあり我かれらが食物を鬻ぎをる日に彼らを戒しめたり
16 There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
彼處にまたツロの人々も住をりしが魚および各種の貨物を携へいりて安息日にユダの人々に之を鬻ぎかつヱルサレムにて商賣せり
17 Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that all of you do, and profane the sabbath day?
是において我ユダの貴き人々を詰りて之に言ふ汝ら何ぞ此惡き事をなして安息日を涜すや
18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet all of you bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.
汝らの先祖等も斯おこなはざりしや我らの神これが爲にこの一切の災禍を我らとこの邑とに降したまひしにあらずや然るに汝らは安息日を涜して更に大なる震怒をイスラエルに招くなりと
19 And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
而して安息日の前の日ヱルサレムの門々暗くならんとする頃ほひに我命じてその扉を閉させ安息日の過さるまで之を開くべからずと命じ我僕數人を門々に置て安息日に荷を携へいるる事なからしめたり
20 So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.
斯りしかば商賣および各種の品を賣る者等一二回ヱルサレムの外に宿れり
21 Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge all of you about the wall? if all of you do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
我これを戒めてこれに言ふ汝ら石垣の前に宿るは何ぞや汝等もし重ねて然なさば我なんぢらに手をかけんと其時より後は彼ら安息日には來らざりき
22 And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your mercy.
我またレビ人に命じてその身を潔めさせ來りて門を守らしめて安息日を聖くす我神よ我ために此事を記念し汝の大なる仁慈をもて我を憫みたまへ
23 In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
富時われアシドド、アンモン、モアブなどの婦女を娶りしユダヤ人を見しに
24 And their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews' language, but according to the language of each people.
その子女はアシドドの言語を半雑へて言ひユダヤの言語を言ことあたはず各國の言語を雑へ用ふ
25 And I contended with them, and cursed them, and stroke certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, All of you shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
我彼等を詰りまた詬りその中の數人を撻ちその毛を抜き神を指て誓はしめて言ふ汝らは彼らの男子におのが女子を與ふべからず又なんぢらの男子あるひはおのれ自身のために彼らの女子を娶るべからず
26 Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did foreign women cause to sin.
是らの事についてイスラエルの王ソロモンは罪を獲たるに非ずや彼がごとき王は衆多の國民の中にもあらずして神に愛せられし者なり神かれをイスラエル全國の王となしたまへり然るに尚ほ異邦の婦女等はこれに罪を犯さしめたり
27 Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
然ば汝らが異邦の婦女を娶りこの一切の大惡をなして我らの神に罪を犯すを我儕聴し置べけんや
28 And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
祭司の長エリアシブの子ヨイアダの一人の子はホロニ人サンバラテの婿なりけれぱ我これを逐出して我を離れしむ
29 Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
わが神よ彼らは祭司の職を汚し祭司およびレビ人の契約に背きたり彼らのことを忘れたまふ勿れ
30 Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;
我かく人衆を潔めて異邦の物を盡く棄しめ祭司およびいビ人の班列を立て各々その職務に服せしめ
31 And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the first-fruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
また人衆をして薪柴の禮物をその定まる期に献げしめかつ初物を奉つらしむ我神よ我を憶ひ仁慈をもて我を待ひたまへ
