Matthew 6
1 Take heed that all of you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise all of you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
“Cuidad de no practicar vuestra justicia a la vista de los hombres con el objeto de ser mirados por ellos; de otra manera no tendréis recompensa de vuestro Padre celestial.
2 Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Cuando, pues, haces limosna, no toques la bocina delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser glorificados por los hombres; en verdad os digo, ya tienen su paga.
3 But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does:
Tú, al contrario, cuando haces limosna, que tu mano izquierda no sepa lo que hace tu mano derecha,
4 That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.
para que tu limosna quede oculta, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará”.
5 And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
“Cuando oréis, no seáis como los hipócritas, que gustan orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles, para ser vistos de los hombres; en verdad os digo, ya tienen su paga.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.
Tú, al contrario, cuando quieras orar entra en tu aposento, corre el cerrojo de la puerta, y ora a tu Padre que está en lo secreto, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará.
7 But when all of you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Y cuando oráis, no abundéis en palabras, como los paganos, que se figuran que por mucho hablar serán oídos.
8 Be not all of you therefore like unto them: for your Father knows what things all of you have need of, before all of you ask him.
Por lo tanto, no los imitéis, porque vuestro Padre sabe qué cosas necesitáis, antes de que vosotros le pidáis.
9 After this manner therefore pray all of you: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name.
Así, pues, oraréis vosotros: Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre;
10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
venga tu reino; hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Danos hoy nuestro pan supersubstancial;
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
y perdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores;
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
y no nos introduzcas en tentación, antes bien líbranos del Maligno.
14 For if all of you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
Si, pues, vosotros perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, vuestro Padre celestial os perdonará también;
15 But if all of you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
pero si vosotros no perdonáis a los hombres, tampoco vuestro Padre perdonará vuestros pecados”.
16 Moreover when all of you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
“Cuando ayunéis, no pongáis cara triste, como los hipócritas, que fingen un rostro escuálido para que las gentes noten que ellos ayunan; en verdad, os digo, ya tienen su paga.
17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
Mas tú, cuando ayunes, perfuma tu cabeza y lava tu rostro,
18 That you appear not unto men to fast, but unto your Father which is in secret: and your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
a fin de que tu ayuno sea visto, no de las gentes, sino de tu Padre, que está en lo secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te lo pagará”.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
“No os amontonéis tesoros en la tierra, donde polilla y herrumbre ( los ) destruyen, y donde los ladrones horadan los muros y roban.
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
Amontonaos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni polilla ni herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones no horadan ni roban.
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Porque allí donde está tu tesoro, allí también estará tu corazón”.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light.
“La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo: Si tu ojo está sencillo, todo tu cuerpo gozará de la luz;
23 But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness!
pero si tu ojo está inservible, todo tu cuerpo estará en tinieblas. Luego, si la luz que hay en ti es tiniebla, ¿las tinieblas mismas, cuán grandes serán?”.
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. All of you cannot serve God and mammon.
“Nadie puede servir a dos señores; porque odiará al uno y amará al otro; o se adherirá al uno y despreciará al otro. Vosotros no podéis servir a Dios y a Mammón”.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what all of you shall eat, or what all of you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what all of you shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment?
“Por esto os digo: no os preocupéis por vuestra vida: qué comeréis o qué beberéis; ni por vuestro cuerpo, con qué lo vestiréis. ¿No vale más la vida que el alimento? ¿y el cuerpo más que el vestido?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are all of you not much better than they?
Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran ni siegan, ni juntan en graneros; y vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
¿Y quién de vosotros puede, por mucho que se afane, añadir un codo a su estatura?
28 And why take all of you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
y por el vestido, ¿por qué preocuparos? Aprended de los lirios del campo: cómo crecen; no trabajan, ni hilan,
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
mas Yo os digo, que ni Salomón, en toda su magnificencia, se vistió como uno de ellos.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O all of you of little faith?
Si, pues, la hierba del campo, que hoy aparece y mañana es echada al horno, Dios así la engalana ¿no ( hará Él ) mucho más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
No os preocupéis, por consiguiente, diciendo: “¿Qué tendremos para comer? ¿Qué tendremos para beber? ¿Qué tendremos para vestirnos?”
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knows that all of you have need of all these things.
Porque todas estas cosas las codician los paganos. Vuestro Padre celestial ya sabe que tenéis necesidad de todo eso.
33 But seek all of you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Buscad, pues, primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todo eso se os dará por añadidura.
34 Take therefore no thought for the next day: for the next day shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
No os preocupéis, entonces, del mañana. El mañana se preocupará de sí mismo. A cada día le basta su propia pena”.
