Matthew 3
1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
En aquel tiempo apareció Juan el Bautista, predicando en el desierto de Judea,
2 And saying, Repent all of you: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
y decía: “Arrepentíos, porque el reino de los cielos está cerca”.
3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare all of you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Este es de quien habló el profeta Isaías cuando dijo: “Voz de uno que clama en el desierto: Preparad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus sendas”.
4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Juan tenía un vestido de pelos de camello, y un cinto de piel alrededor de su cintura; su comida eran langostas y miel silvestre.
5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
Entonces salía hacia él Jerusalén y toda la Judea y toda la región del Jordán,
6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
y se hacían bautizar por él en el río Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Mas viendo a muchos fariseos y saduceos venir a su bautismo, les dijo: “Raza de víboras, ¿quién os ha enseñado a huir de la cólera que viene?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
Producid, pues, frutos propios del arrepentimiento.
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Y no creáis que podéis decir dentro de vosotros: “Tenemos por padre a Abrahán”; porque yo os digo: “Puede Dios de estas piedras hacer que nazcan hijos a Abrahán”.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which brings not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Ya el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no produce buen fruto será cortado y arrojado al fuego.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, (pneuma) and with fire:
Yo, por mi parte, os bautizo con agua para el arrepentimiento; mas Aquel que viene después de mí es más poderoso que yo, y yo no soy digno de llevar sus sandalias. Él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo y fuego.
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
La pala de aventar está en su mano y va a limpiar su era: reunirá el trigo en el granero, y la paja la quemará en fuego que no se apaga”.
13 Then comes Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Entonces Jesús fue de Galilea al Jordán a Juan para ser bautizado por él.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of you, and come you to me?
Pero Juan quería impedírselo y le decía: “Yo tengo necesidad de ser bautizado por Ti y ¿Tú vienes a mí?”
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becomes us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Jesús le respondió y dijo: “Deja ahora; porque así conviene que nosotros cumplamos toda justicia”. Entonces ( Juan ) le dejó.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit (pneuma) of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Bautizado Jesús, salió al punto del agua, y he aquí que se le abrieron los cielos y vio al Espíritu de Dios, en figura de paloma, que descendía y venía sobre Él.
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Y una voz del cielo decía: “Este es mi Hijo, el Amado, en quien me complazco”.
