Luke 18
1 And he spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
Il leur dit aussi, en parabole, qu'ils devaient toujours prier et ne pas se décourager,
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
en disant: « Il y avait dans une certaine ville un juge qui ne craignait pas Dieu et ne respectait pas les hommes.
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
Il y avait dans cette ville une veuve qui venait souvent le trouver en disant: « Défends-moi contre mon adversaire! ».
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
Il ne voulut pas pendant quelque temps; mais ensuite il se dit en lui-même: 'Bien que je ne craigne pas Dieu et que je ne respecte pas l'homme,
5 Yet because this widow troubles me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
cependant, parce que cette veuve m'importune, je la défendrai, ou bien elle me fatiguera par sa venue continuelle.'"
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge says.
L'Éternel dit: « Écoutez ce que dit le juge inique.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Dieu ne va-t-il pas tirer vengeance de ses élus qui crient vers lui jour et nuit, et qui pourtant font preuve de patience à leur égard?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth?
Je vous dis qu'il les vengera bientôt. Cependant, quand le Fils de l'homme viendra, trouvera-t-il la foi sur la terre? »
9 And he spoke this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Il dit aussi cette parabole à certaines personnes qui étaient convaincues de leur propre justice et qui méprisaient tous les autres:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
Deux hommes montèrent au temple pour prier, l'un était pharisien, l'autre publicain.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
Le pharisien se tenait debout et priait seul ainsi: Dieu, je te rends grâces de ce que je ne suis pas comme le reste des hommes, extorqueurs, injustes, adultères, ni même comme ce publicain.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
Je jeûne deux fois par semaine. Je donne la dîme de tout ce que je reçois'.
13 And the publican, standing far off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but stroke upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Mais le publicain, qui se tenait à l'écart, ne levait même pas les yeux au ciel, mais il se frappait la poitrine en disant: « Dieu, aie pitié de moi, qui suis un pécheur.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be brought low; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.
Je vous le dis, celui-ci est descendu chez lui justifié plutôt que l'autre; car quiconque s'élève sera abaissé, mais celui qui s'abaisse sera élevé. »
15 And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them.
Elles lui apportaient aussi leurs bébés, afin qu'il les touche. Mais les disciples, voyant cela, les réprimandèrent.
16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Jésus les appela et dit: « Laissez les petits enfants venir à moi et ne les en empêchez pas, car le Royaume de Dieu appartient à ceux qui leur ressemblent.
17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.
En vérité, je vous le dis, quiconque ne reçoit pas le Royaume de Dieu comme un petit enfant, n'y entrera pas. »
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
Un certain chef lui demanda: « Bon maître, que dois-je faire pour avoir en héritage la vie éternelle? » (aiōnios g166)
19 And Jesus said unto him, Why call you me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.
Jésus lui demanda: « Pourquoi m'appelles-tu bon? Personne n'est bon, sauf un: Dieu.
20 You know the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour your father and your mother.
Tu connais les commandements: « Ne commets pas d'adultère », « Ne commets pas de meurtre », « Ne vole pas », « Ne porte pas de faux témoignage », « Honore ton père et ta mère ».
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.
Il répondit: « J'ai observé toutes ces choses depuis ma jeunesse. »
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lack you one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute unto the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
Jésus, ayant entendu cela, lui dit: « Il te manque encore une chose. Vendez tout ce que vous avez et distribuez-le aux pauvres. Vous aurez alors un trésor dans le ciel; puis venez, suivez-moi. »
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
Mais quand il entendit ces choses, il devint très triste, car il était très riche.
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
Jésus, voyant qu'il était très triste, dit: « Comme il est difficile à ceux qui ont des richesses d'entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
Car il est plus facile à un chameau d'entrer par le trou d'une aiguille qu'à un riche d'entrer dans le Royaume de Dieu. »
26 And they that heard it said, Who then can be saved?
Ceux qui l'entendaient disaient: « Alors, qui peut être sauvé? »
27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Mais il a dit: « Ce qui est impossible aux hommes est possible à Dieu. »
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed you.
Pierre dit: « Regarde, nous avons tout quitté et nous t'avons suivi. »
29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that has left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake,
Il leur dit: « En vérité, je vous le dis, il n'y a personne qui ait quitté sa maison, ou sa femme, ou ses frères, ou ses parents, ou ses enfants, à cause du Royaume de Dieu,
31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
Il prit les douze à part et leur dit: « Voici que nous montons à Jérusalem, et tout ce qui est écrit par les prophètes au sujet du Fils de l'homme s'accomplira.
32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully pleaded, and spitted on:
Car il sera livré aux païens, on se moquera de lui, on l'insultera, on crachera sur lui.
33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
On le flagellera et on le fera mourir. Le troisième jour, il ressuscitera. »
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying (rhema) was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
Ils n'ont rien compris à ces choses. Cette parole leur était cachée, et ils ne comprenaient pas les choses qui étaient dites.
35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging:
Comme il approchait de Jéricho, un aveugle était assis au bord du chemin et mendiait.
36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant.
Entendant une foule qui passait, il demanda ce que cela signifiait.
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passes by.
On lui dit que Jésus de Nazareth passait par là.
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me.
Il s'écria: « Jésus, fils de David, aie pitié de moi! »
39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You son of David, have mercy on me.
Ceux qui conduisaient le chemin le réprimandèrent pour qu'il se taise; mais il cria encore plus fort: « Fils de David, aie pitié de moi! »
40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him,
S'étant arrêté, Jésus ordonna qu'on l'amène à lui. S'étant approché, il lui demanda:
41 Saying, What will you that I shall do unto you? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
« Que veux-tu que je fasse? » Il a dit: « Seigneur, que je puisse voir à nouveau. »
42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive your sight: your faith has saved you.
Jésus lui dit: « Recouvre la vue. Ta foi t'a guéri. »
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Aussitôt, il recouvra la vue et le suivit, en glorifiant Dieu. Tout le peuple, en le voyant, loua Dieu.
