Luke 12
1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware all of you of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Cependant, le peuple s'étant rassemblé par milliers, au point que les gens s'écrasaient les uns les autres, Jésus se mit tout d'abord à dire à ses disciples Gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens, qui est l'hypocrisie.
2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
Il n'y a rien de caché qui ne doive être découvert, ni rien de secret qui ne doive être connu.
3 Therefore whatsoever all of you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which all of you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
C'est pourquoi, tout ce que vous aurez dit dans les ténèbres, sera entendu en plein jour; et ce que vous aurez dit à l'oreille, dans les chambres, sera prêché sur les toits.
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Je vous dis, à vous qui êtes mes amis: Ne craignez pas ceux qui tuent le corps, et qui, après cela, ne peuvent rien faire de plus.
5 But I will forewarn you whom all of you shall fear: Fear him, which after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. (Geenna g1067)
Mais je vous montrerai qui vous devez craindre. Craignez celui qui, après avoir ôté la vie, a le pouvoir de jeter dans la géhenne! Oui, je vous le dis, c'est celui-là que vous devez craindre! (Geenna g1067)
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Ne vend-on pas cinq passereaux pour deux sous? Cependant, Dieu n'en oublie pas un seul.
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: all of you are of more value than many sparrows.
Et les cheveux mêmes de votre tête sont tous comptés. Ne craignez point; vous valez plus que beaucoup de passereaux.
8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Je vous le déclare, quiconque me confessera devant les hommes, le Fils de l'homme le confessera aussi devant les anges de Dieu.
9 But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Mais celui qui m'aura renié devant les hommes, celui-là sera renié devant les anges de Dieu.
10 And whosoever shall speak a word (logos) against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit (pneuma) it shall not be forgiven.
Quiconque parlera contre le Fils de l'homme, obtiendra le pardon; mais à celui qui aura blasphémé contre le Saint-Esprit, il ne sera point pardonné.
11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take all of you no thought how or what thing all of you shall answer, or what all of you shall say:
Quand on vous mènera dans les synagogues et devant les magistrats et les autorités, ne vous inquiétez pas de la manière dont vous parlerez pour votre défense, ni de ce que vous direz;
12 For the Holy Spirit (pneuma) shall teach you in the same hour what all of you ought to say.
car le Saint-Esprit vous enseignera à l'heure même ce qu'il faudra que vous disiez.
13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Alors, du milieu de la foule, quelqu'un dit à Jésus: Maître, dis à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage.
14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
Mais Jésus lui répondit: Homme, qui est-ce qui m'a établi pour être votre juge, ou pour faire vos partages?
15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.
Puis il leur dit: Gardez-vous avec soin de toute avarice; car, fût-il dans l'abondance, la vie d'un homme ne dépend pas de ce qu'il possède.
16 And he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
Jésus leur dit encore cette parabole: Les terres d'un homme riche avaient beaucoup rapporté;
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
et il raisonnait ainsi en lui-même: Que ferai-je? Car je n'ai pas de place pour serrer ma récolte.
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
Voici, dit-il, ce que je ferai j'abattrai mes greniers, j'en bâtirai de plus grands, j'y amasserai toute ma récolte et tous mes biens.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Puis je dirai à mon âme: Mon âme, tu as beaucoup de biens en réserve pour beaucoup d'années; repose-toi, mange, bois et réjouis-toi.
20 But God said unto him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?
Mais Dieu lui dit: Insensé, cette nuit même ton âme te sera redemandée; et ce que tu as préparé, pour qui cela sera-t-il?
21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Il en est ainsi de celui qui amasse des trésors pour lui-même, et qui n'est pas riche en Dieu.
22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what all of you shall eat; neither for the body, what all of you shall put on.
Alors Jésus dit à ses disciples: Ainsi, je vous le déclare: Ne soyez pas en souci, pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez, ni pour votre corps, du vêtement dont vous le revêtirez.
23 The life is more than food, and the body is more than raiment.
La vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are all of you better than the fowls?
Regardez les corbeaux: Ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, ils n'ont ni cellier, ni grenier, et Dieu les nourrit; combien ne valez-vous pas plus que les oiseaux!
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
Et qui de vous peut ajouter, par son souci, une coudée à sa taille?
26 If all of you then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take all of you thought for the rest?
Si donc vous ne pouvez pas même les moindres choses, pourquoi vous inquiétez-vous des autres?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Considérez comment croissent les lis: Ils ne travaillent ni ne filent; cependant, je vous dis que Salomon même, dans toute sa gloire, n'a pas été vêtu comme l'un d'eux.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O all of you of little faith?
Si Dieu revêt ainsi, dans les champs, l'herbe qui est aujourd'hui, et qui demain sera jetée au four, combien plutôt vous vêtira-t-il, ô gens de peu de foi!
29 And seek not all of you what all of you shall eat, or what all of you shall drink, neither be all of you of doubtful mind.
Ne vous mettez donc pas en peine de ce que vous mangerez ou de ce que vous boirez, et n'ayez pas l'esprit inquiet.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that all of you have need of these things.
Car toutes ces choses, ce sont les nations de ce monde qui les recherchent; et votre Père sait que vous en avez besoin.
31 But rather seek all of you the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Mais vous, recherchez plutôt son royaume; et toutes ces choses vous seront données par dessus.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Ne crains point, petit troupeau car il a plu à votre Père de vous donner le royaume.
33 Sell that all of you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.
Vendez ce que vous possédez et donnez-le en aumônes. Faites-vous des bourses qui ne s'usent pas, un trésor dans les cieux qui ne manque jamais, dont le voleur n'approche pas, et que les vers ne détruisent point.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Car où est votre trésor, là aussi sera votre coeur.
35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
Que vos reins soient ceints, et vos lampes allumées.
36 And all of you yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open unto him immediately.
Soyez semblables à des hommes qui attendent le moment où leur maître reviendra des noces, afin de lui ouvrir dès qu'il arrivera et qu'il frappera.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to food, and will come forth and serve them.
Heureux ces serviteurs que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera veillant! En vérité, je vous le dis, il se ceindra, il les fera mettre à sa table et viendra les servir.
38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
Qu'il arrive à la seconde ou à la troisième veille, s'il les trouve dans cet état, heureux ces serviteurs!
39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Sachez-le bien, si le père de famille connaissait l'heure à laquelle le voleur viendra, il veillerait et, ne laisserait pas percer sa maison.
40 Be all of you therefore ready also: for the Son of man comes at an hour when all of you think not.
Vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts; car le Fils de l'homme viendra à l'heure où vous n'y penserez pas.
41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speak you this parable unto us, or even to all?
Alors Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, est-ce pour nous que tu dis cette parabole, ou est-ce aussi pour tous?
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season?
Le Seigneur répondit: Quel est l'économe fidèle et prudent que le maître établira sur ses domestiques, pour leur donner, au temps convenable, leur mesure de blé?
43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.
Heureux ce serviteur que le maître, à son arrivée, trouvera agissant ainsi!
44 Truthfully I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
En vérité, je vous dis qu'il l'établira sur tous ses biens.
45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the male servants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
Mais si ce serviteur dit en son cœur: Mon maître tarde à venir. s'il se met à battre les serviteurs et les servantes, à manger, à boire et à s'enivrer,
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looks not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
le maître de ce serviteur viendra le jour où il ne s'y attend point, et à l'heure qu'il ne sait pas. Il déchirera le serviteur à coups de fouet, et il lui donnera son lot avec les infidèles.
47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Ce serviteur qui, ayant connu la volonté de son maître, n'aura rien préparé et n'aura pas fait cette volonté, sera battu de plusieurs coups.
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Mais celui qui ne l'a pas connue, et qui a fait des choses dignes de châtiment, sera battu de peu de coups. A quiconque il aura été beaucoup donné, il sera beaucoup redemandé; et l'on exigera davantage de celui à qui l'on aura beaucoup confié.
49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Je suis venu jeter un feu sur la terre et qu'ai-je à désirer, s'il est déjà allumé?
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Il est un baptême dont je dois être baptisé, et, combien je suis dans l'angoisse jusqu'à ce qu'il soit accompli!
51 Suppose all of you that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Pensez-vous que je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre? Non, vous dis-je, mais plutôt la division.
52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Car désormais, s'il y a cinq personnes dans une maison, elles seront divisées, trois contre deux, et deux contre trois;
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
le père contre le fils, et le fils contre le père; la mère contre la fille, et la fille contre la mère la belle-mère contre la belle-fille, et la belle-fille contre la belle-mère.
54 And he said also to the people, When all of you see a cloud rise out of the west, immediately all of you say, There comes a shower; and so it is.
Il disait encore à la foule: Quand vous voyez un nuage se lever à l'Occident, vous dites aussitôt: Il va pleuvoir; et cela arrive ainsi.
55 And when all of you see the south wind blow, all of you say, There will be heat; and it comes to pass.
Et quand le vent du Midi souffle, vous dites: il fera chaud; et, cela arrive.
56 All of you hypocrites, all of you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that all of you do not discern this time?
Hypocrites! Vous savez bien discerner l'aspect de la terre et du ciel comment donc ne savez-vous pas discerner ce temps-ci?
57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge all of you not what is right?
Et pourquoi ne jugez-vous pas aussi, par vous-mêmes, de ce qui est juste?
58 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are in the way, give diligence that you may be delivered from him; lest he hale you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer cast you into prison.
Quand tu vas devant le magistrat avec ton adversaire, tâche de t'arranger avec lui en chemin, de peur qu'il ne te traîne devant le juge, que le juge ne te livre à l'exécuteur, et que l'exécuteur ne te jette en prison.
59 I tell you, you shall not depart thence, till you have paid the very last mite.
Je te dis que tu ne sortiras point de là, que tu n'aies payé jusqu'à la dernière pite.
