< James 2 >

1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
ⲁ̅ⲚⲀⲤⲚⲎⲞⲨ ⲘⲠⲈⲢⲬⲀ ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲰⲞⲨ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲈⲚϬⲞⲒⲤ ⲒⲎⲤⲞⲨⲤ ⲠⲬⲢⲒⲤⲦⲞⲤ ⲚⲦⲈⲚ ⲐⲎⲚⲞⲨ ϦⲈⲚⲞⲨⲘⲈⲦⲢⲈϤϪⲞⲨϢⲦ ⲈϨⲞ
2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
ⲃ̅ⲈϢⲰⲠ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲚⲦⲈϤⲒ ⲈϦⲞⲨⲚ ⲈⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚⲤⲨⲚⲀⲄⲰⲄⲎ ⲚϪⲈⲞⲨⲢⲰⲘⲒ ⲈⲢⲈ ⲞⲨⲞⲚ ⲞⲨϢϬ ⲞⲨⲢ ⲚⲚⲞⲨⲂ ⲦⲞⲒ ⲈⲠⲈϤⲦⲎⲂ ϦⲈⲚⲞⲨϨⲈⲂⲤⲰ ⲈⲤⲪⲞⲢⲒ ⲚⲦⲈϤⲒ ⲆⲈ ⲈϦⲞⲨⲚ ϨⲰϤ ⲚϪⲈⲞⲨϨⲎⲔⲒ ϦⲈⲚⲞⲨϨⲈⲂⲤⲰ ⲈⲤⲀⲐⲒⲰⲞⲨ
3 And all of you have respect to him that wears the cheerful clothing, and say unto him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool:
ⲅ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϪⲞⲨϢⲦ ⲈⲪⲎ ⲈⲦⲈ ϮϨⲈⲂⲤⲰ ⲈⲦⲪⲞⲢⲒ ⲦⲞⲒ ϨⲒⲰⲦϤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϪⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ϨⲈⲘⲤⲒ ⲚⲀⲔ ⲘⲠⲀⲒⲘⲀ ⲚⲔⲀⲖⲰⲤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϪⲞⲤ ⲘⲠⲒϨⲎⲔⲒ ϨⲰϤ ϪⲈ ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ⲞϨⲒ ⲈⲢⲀⲦⲔ ϨⲀⲘⲚⲎ ⲒⲈ ϨⲈⲘⲤⲒ ⲘⲠⲀⲒⲘⲀ ϦⲀⲦⲈⲚ ⲪⲘⲀ ⲚⲬⲀ ⲚⲒϬⲀⲖⲀⲨϪ.
4 Are all of you not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
ⲇ̅ⲘⲎ ⲘⲠⲈⲦⲈⲚⲬⲀ ⲞⲨϢⲒⲂϮ ⲚϨⲢⲎⲒ ϦⲈⲚⲐⲎⲚⲞⲨ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲢⲈⲦⲈⲚⲈⲢⲢⲈϤϮϨⲀⲠ ⲚϦⲢⲎⲒ ϦⲈⲚϨⲀⲚⲘⲈⲨⲒ ⲈⲨϨⲰⲞⲨ
5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?
ⲉ̅ⲤⲰⲦⲈⲘ ⲚⲀⲤⲚⲎⲞⲨ ⲚⲀⲘⲈⲚⲢⲀϮ ⲘⲎ ⲪⲚⲞⲨϮ ⲚⲀϤⲤⲰⲦⲠ ⲚⲚⲒϨⲎⲔⲒ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲔⲞⲤⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲢⲀⲘⲀⲞ ϦⲈⲚⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲔⲖⲎⲢⲞⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲦⲈϮⲘⲈⲦⲞⲨⲢⲞ ⲐⲎ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲰϢ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲚⲎ ⲈⲐⲚⲀⲘⲈⲚⲢⲒⲦϤ
6 But all of you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
ⲋ̅ⲚⲐⲰⲦⲈⲚ ⲆⲈ ⲀⲢⲈⲦⲈⲚϢⲈϢ ⲠⲒϨⲎⲔⲒ ⲘⲎ ⲚⲒⲢⲀⲘⲀⲰⲞⲨ ⲀⲚ ⲈⲦⲞⲒ ⲚϪⲰⲢⲒ ⲈⲢⲰⲦⲈⲚ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲐⲰⲞⲨ ⲈⲦⲤⲰⲔ ⲘⲘⲰⲦⲈⲚ ⲈϨⲀⲚⲘⲀⲚϮϨⲀⲠ
7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which all of you are called?
ⲍ̅ⲘⲎ ⲚⲐⲰⲞⲨ ⲀⲚ ⲈⲦϪⲈⲞⲨⲀ ⲈⲠⲒⲢⲀⲚ ⲈⲐⲚⲀⲚⲈϤ ⲈⲦⲀⲨⲘⲞⲨϮ ⲘⲘⲞϤ ⲈϪⲈⲚ ⲐⲎⲚⲞⲨ
8 If all of you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbour as yourself, all of you do well:
ⲏ̅ⲒⲤϪⲈ ⲘⲈⲚ ⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϪⲰⲔ ⲘⲠⲒⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲞⲨⲢⲞ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲔⲀⲦⲀ ⲚⲒⲄⲢⲀⲪⲎ ϪⲈ ⲈⲔⲈⲘⲈⲚⲢⲈ ⲠⲈⲔϢⲪⲎⲢ ⲘⲠⲈⲔⲢⲎϮ ⲔⲀⲖⲰⲤ ⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚⲢⲀ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ.
9 But if all of you have respect to persons, all of you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
ⲑ̅ⲒⲤϪⲈ ⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϪⲞⲨϢⲦ ⲈϨⲞ ⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚⲈⲢϨⲰⲂ ⲈⲪⲚⲞⲂⲒ ⲈⲢⲈ ⲪⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ ⲤⲞϨⲒ ⲘⲘⲰⲦⲈⲚ ϨⲰⲤ ⲠⲀⲢⲀⲂⲀⲦⲎⲤ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ.
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
ⲓ̅ⲪⲎ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲈⲐⲚⲀⲀⲢⲈϨ ⲈⲪⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲦⲈϤϨⲈⲒ ϦⲈⲚⲞⲨⲀⲒ ⲀϤϢⲰⲠⲒ ⲈϤⲞⲒ ⲚⲈⲚⲞⲬⲞⲤ ⲘⲘⲰⲞⲨ ⲦⲎⲢⲞⲨ
11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲪⲎ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲈⲦⲀϤϪⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲚⲚⲈⲔⲈⲢⲚⲰⲒⲔ ⲚⲐⲞϤ ⲞⲚ ⲀϤϪⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲚⲚⲈⲔϦⲰⲦⲈⲂ ⲒⲤϪⲈ ⲔⲞⲒ ⲚⲚⲰⲒⲔ ⲀⲚ ⲔϦⲰⲦⲈⲂ ⲆⲈ ⲀⲔϢⲰⲠⲒ ⲈⲔⲞⲒ ⲘⲠⲀⲢⲀⲂⲀⲦⲎⲤ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ
12 So speak all of you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲤⲀϪⲒ ⲘⲠⲀⲒⲢⲎϮ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲢⲒⲞⲨⲒ ⲘⲠⲀⲒⲢⲎϮ ϨⲰⲤ ⲈⲨⲚⲀϮϨⲀⲠ ⲈⲢⲰⲦⲈⲚ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϨⲒⲦⲈⲚ ⲪⲚⲞⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲦⲈϮⲘⲈⲦⲢⲈⲘϨⲈ
13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲠⲒϨⲀⲠ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲞⲨⲀⲐⲚⲀⲒ ⲠⲈ ⲘⲪⲎ ⲈⲦⲈ ⲘⲠⲈϤⲒⲢⲒ ⲘⲠⲒⲚⲀⲒ ϢⲀⲢⲈ ⲪⲚⲀⲒ ⲄⲀⲢ ϢⲞⲨϢⲞⲨ ⲘⲘⲞϤ ⲈϪⲈⲚ ⲠⲒϨⲀⲠ.
14 What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say he has faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲞⲨ ⲠⲈ ⲠϨⲎⲞⲨ ⲚⲀⲤⲚⲎⲞⲨ ⲈϢⲰⲠ ⲚⲦⲈⲞⲨⲀⲒ ϪⲞⲤ ϪⲈ ⲞⲨⲞⲚϮ ⲚⲀϨϮ ⲘⲘⲀⲨ ⲘⲘⲞⲚ ⲚⲦⲀϤ ⲆⲈ ⲚϨⲀⲚϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲘⲎ ⲞⲨⲞⲚ ϢϪⲞⲘ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲚⲀϨⲘⲈϤ ⲀϬⲚⲈ ⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ
15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲈϢⲰⲠ ⲆⲈ ⲞⲨⲞⲚ ⲞⲨⲤⲞⲚ ⲒⲈ ⲞⲨⲤⲰⲚⲒ ⲈⲨⲂⲎϢ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲈⲨϢⲀⲦ ⲚⲦϦⲢⲈ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲈϨⲞⲞⲨ
16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be all of you warmed and filled; notwithstanding all of you give them not those things which are necessary to the body; what does it profit?
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲚⲦⲈ ⲞⲨⲀⲒ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲐⲎⲚⲞⲨ ϪⲞⲤ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ϪⲈ ⲘⲀϢⲈ ⲚⲰⲦⲈⲚ ϦⲈⲚⲞⲨϨⲒⲢⲎ ⲚⲎ ϦⲘⲞⲘ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲤⲒ ⲚⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚϢⲦⲈⲘϮ ⲆⲈ ⲚⲰⲞⲨ ⲚⲦⲬⲢⲒⲀ ⲚⲦⲈⲠⲒⲤⲰⲘⲀ ⲞⲨ ⲠⲈ ⲠⲒϨⲎⲞⲨ
17 Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲠⲀⲒⲢⲎϮ ϨⲰϤ ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲈϢⲰⲠ ⲘⲘⲞⲚ ϨⲰⲂ ⲚϦⲎⲦϤ ϤⲘⲰⲞⲨⲦ ϦⲀⲢⲒ ϦⲀⲢⲞϤ
18 Yea, a man may say, You have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲀⲖⲖⲀ ϤⲚⲀϪⲞⲤ ⲚϪⲈⲞⲨⲀⲒ ϪⲈ ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ⲞⲨⲞⲚⲦⲀⲔ ⲚⲞⲨⲚⲀϨϮ ⲘⲘⲀⲨ ⲀⲚⲞⲔ ⲆⲈ ⲞⲨⲞⲚⲦⲎⲒ ⲚϨⲀⲚϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲘⲀⲦⲀⲘⲞⲒ ⲈⲠⲈⲔⲚⲀϨϮ ⲬⲰⲢⲒⲤ ⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲀⲚⲞⲔ ⲆⲈ ⲚⲦⲀⲦⲀⲘⲞⲔ ⲈⲠⲀⲚⲀϨϮ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲀϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ
19 You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲚⲐⲞⲔ ⲬⲚⲀϨϮ ϪⲈ ⲞⲨⲀⲒ ⲠⲈ ⲪⲚⲞⲨϮ ⲔⲀⲖⲰⲤ ⲔⲢⲀ ⲘⲘⲞⲤ ⲚⲒⲔⲈⲆⲈⲘⲰⲚ ϨⲰⲞⲨ ⲤⲈⲚⲀϨϮ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲤⲈⲤⲐⲈⲢⲦⲈⲢ
20 But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
ⲕ̅ⲬⲞⲨⲰϢ ⲆⲈ ⲈⲈⲘⲒ ⲰⲪⲢⲰⲘⲒ ⲈⲦϢⲞⲨⲒⲦ ϪⲈ ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲬⲰⲢⲒⲤ ⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ϤⲘⲰⲞⲨⲦ
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲀⲂⲢⲀⲀⲘ ⲠⲈⲚⲒⲰⲦ ⲘⲎ ⲚⲈⲦⲀⲨⲐⲘⲀⲒⲞϤ ⲀⲚ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲈⲦⲀϤⲈⲚ ⲒⲤⲀⲀⲔ ⲠⲈϤϢⲎⲢⲒ ϨⲒϪⲈⲚ ⲠⲒⲘⲀⲚⲈⲢϢⲰⲞⲨϢⲒ
22 See you how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲬⲚⲀⲨ ϪⲈ ⲚⲀⲢⲈ ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲈⲢϨⲰⲂ ⲚⲈⲘ ⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ Ⲁ- ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ϪⲰⲔ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲤϪⲰⲔ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ⲚϪⲈϮⲄⲢⲀⲪⲎ ϪⲈ ⲀϤⲚⲀϨϮ ⲚϪⲈⲀⲂⲢⲀⲀⲘ ⲈⲪⲚⲞⲨϮ ⲀⲨⲞⲠⲤ ⲚⲀϤ ⲈⲞⲨⲘⲈⲐⲘⲎⲒ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲨⲘⲞⲨϮ ⲈⲢⲞϤ ϪⲈ ⲠϢⲪⲎⲢ ⲘⲪϮ
24 All of you see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲦⲈⲦⲈⲚⲚⲀⲨ ϪⲈ ⲀⲨⲚⲀⲐⲘⲀⲒⲈ ⲠⲒⲢⲰⲘⲒ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲚⲈⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲘⲘⲀⲨⲀⲦϤ ⲀⲚ
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲠⲀⲒⲢⲎϮ ⲞⲚ ⲢⲀⲀⲂ ϮⲠⲞⲢⲚⲎ ⲘⲎ ⲚⲈⲦⲀⲨⲐⲘⲀⲒⲞⲤ ⲀⲚ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϦⲈⲚⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ⲈⲦⲀⲤϢⲈⲠ ⲚⲒϪⲎⲢ ⲈⲢⲞⲤ ⲞⲨⲞϨ ⲀⲤϮⲦⲞⲦⲞⲨ ⲈⲂⲞⲖ ϨⲒⲦⲈⲚ ⲔⲈⲘⲰⲒⲦ
26 For as the body without the spirit (pneuma) is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲘⲪⲢⲎϮ ⲄⲀⲢ ⲘⲠⲒⲤⲰⲘⲀ ⲬⲰⲢⲒⲤ ⲠⲒⲠⲚⲈⲨⲘⲀϤⲘⲰⲞⲨⲦ ⲠⲀⲒⲢⲎϮ ϨⲰϤ ⲠⲒⲚⲀϨϮ ⲬⲰⲢⲒⲤ ⲚⲒϨⲂⲎⲞⲨⲒ ϤⲘⲰⲞⲨⲦ.
