John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
初めに、ことばがあった。ことばは神とともにあった。ことばは神であった。
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
この方は、初めに神とともにおられた。
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
すべてのものは、この方によって造られた。造られたもので、この方によらずにできたものは一つもない。
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
この方にいのちがあった。このいのちは人の光であった。
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
光はやみの中に輝いている。やみはこれに打ち勝たなかった。
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
神から遣わされたヨハネという人が現われた。
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
この人はあかしのために来た。光についてあかしするためであり、すべての人が彼によって信じるためである。
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
彼は光ではなかった。ただ光についてあかしするために来たのである。
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
すべての人を照らすそのまことの光が世に来ようとしていた。
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
この方はもとから世におられ、世はこの方によって造られたのに、世はこの方を知らなかった。
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
この方はご自分のくにに来られたのに、ご自分の民は受け入れなかった。
12 But as many as accepted him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
しかし、この方を受け入れた人々、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、神の子どもとされる特権をお与えになった。
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
この人々は、血によってではなく、肉の欲求や人の意欲によってでもなく、ただ、神によって生まれたのである。
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, ( and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.
ことばは人となって、私たちの間に住まわれた。私たちはこの方の栄光を見た。父のみもとから来られたひとり子としての栄光である。この方は恵みとまことに満ちておられた。
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
ヨハネはこの方について証言し、叫んで言った。「『私のあとから来る方は、私にまさる方である。私より先におられたからである。』と私が言ったのは、この方のことです。」
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
私たちはみな、この方の満ち満ちた豊かさの中から、恵みの上にさらに恵みを受けたのである。
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
というのは、律法はモーセによって与えられ、恵みとまことはイエス・キリストによって実現したからである。
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
いまだかつて神を見た者はいない。父のふところにおられるひとり子の神が、神を説き明かされたのである。
19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
ヨハネの証言は、こうである。ユダヤ人たちが祭司とレビ人をエルサレムからヨハネのもとに遣わして、「あなたはどなたですか。」と尋ねさせた。
20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
彼は告白して否まず、「私はキリストではありません。」と言明した。
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
また、彼らは聞いた。「では、いったい何ですか。あなたはエリヤですか。」彼は言った。「そうではありません。」「あなたはあの預言者ですか。」彼は答えた。「違います。」
22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
そこで、彼らは言った。「あなたはだれですか。私たちを遣わした人々に返事をしたいのですが、あなたは自分を何だと言われるのですか。」
23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Isaiah.
彼は言った。「私は、預言者イザヤが言ったように『主の道をまっすぐにせよ。』と荒野で叫んでいる者の声です。」
24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
彼らは、パリサイ人の中から遣わされたのであった。
25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?
彼らはまた尋ねて言った。「キリストでもなく、エリヤでもなく、またあの預言者でもないなら、なぜ、あなたはバプテスマを授けているのですか。」
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
ヨハネは答えて言った。「私は水でバプテスマを授けているが、あなたがたの中に、あなたがたの知らない方が立っておられます。
27 He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
その方は私のあとから来られる方で、私はその方のくつのひもを解く値うちもありません。」
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
この事があったのは、ヨルダンの向こう岸のベタニヤであって、ヨハネはそこでバプテスマを授けていた。
29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
その翌日、ヨハネは自分のほうにイエスが来られるのを見て言った。「見よ、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊。
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
私が『私のあとから来る人がある。その方は私にまさる方である。私より先におられたからだ。』と言ったのは、この方のことです。
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
私もこの方を知りませんでした。しかし、この方がイスラエルに明らかにされるために、私は来て、水でバプテスマを授けているのです。」
32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
またヨハネは証言して言った。「御霊が鳩のように天から下って、この方の上にとどまられるのを私は見ました。
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
私もこの方を知りませんでした。しかし、水でバプテスマを授けさせるために私を遣わされた方が、私に言われました。『聖霊がある方の上に下って、その上にとどまられるのがあなたに見えたなら、その方こそ、聖霊によってバプテスマを授ける方である。』
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
私はそれを見たのです。それで、この方が神の子であると証言しているのです。」
35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
その翌日、またヨハネは、ふたりの弟子とともに立っていたが、
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
イエスが歩いて行かれるのを見て、「見よ、神の小羊。」と言った。
37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
ふたりの弟子は、彼がそう言うのを聞いて、イエスについて行った。
38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, ( which is to say, being interpreted, Master, ) where dwellest thou?
イエスは振り向いて、彼らがついて来るのを見て、言われた。「あなたがたは何を求めているのですか。」彼らは言った。「ラビ（訳して言えば、先生）。今どこにお泊まりですか。」
39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
イエスは彼らに言われた。「来なさい。そうすればわかります。」そこで、彼らはついて行って、イエスの泊まっておられる所を知った。そして、その日彼らはイエスといっしょにいた。時は十時ごろであった。
40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
ヨハネから聞いて、イエスについて行ったふたりのうちのひとりは、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレであった。
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
彼はまず自分の兄弟シモンを見つけて、「私たちはメシヤ（訳して言えば、キリスト）に会った。」と言った。
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jonah: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
彼はシモンをイエスのもとに連れて来た。イエスはシモンに目を留めて言われた。「あなたはヨハネの子シモンです。あなたをケパ（訳すとペテロ）と呼ぶことにします。」
43 The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
その翌日、イエスはガリラヤに行こうとされた。そして、ピリポを見つけて「わたしに従って来なさい。」と言われた。
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
ピリポは、ベツサイダの人で、アンデレやペテロと同じ町の出身であった。
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
彼はナタナエルを見つけて言った。「私たちは、モーセが律法の中に書き、預言者たちも書いている方に会いました。ナザレの人で、ヨセフの子イエスです。」
46 And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
ナタナエルは彼に言った。「ナザレから何の良いものが出るだろう。」ピリポは言った。「来て、そして、見なさい。」
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
イエスはナタナエルが自分のほうに来るのを見て、彼について言われた。「これこそ、ほんとうのイスラエル人だ。彼のうちには偽りがない。」
48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
ナタナエルはイエスに言った。「どうして私をご存じなのですか。」イエスは言われた。「わたしは、ピリポがあなたを呼ぶ前に、あなたがいちじくの木の下にいるのを見たのです。」
49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
ナタナエルは答えた。「先生。あなたは神の子です。あなたはイスラエルの王です。」
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
イエスは答えて言われた。「あなたがいちじくの木の下にいるのを見た、とわたしが言ったので、あなたは信じるのですか。あなたは、それよりもさらに大きなことを見ることになります。」
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
そして言われた。「まことに、まことに、あなたがたに告げます。天が開けて、神の御使いたちが人の子の上を上り下りするのを、あなたがたはいまに見ます。」
