Proverbs 14
1 EVERY wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Toda a mulher sabia edifica a sua casa: mas a tola a derriba com as suas mãos.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the Lord: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
O que anda na sua sinceridade teme ao Senhor, mas o que se desvia de seus caminhos o despreza.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Na boca do tolo está a vara da soberba, mas os lábios dos sábios os conservam.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
Não havendo bois, a mangedoura está limpa, mas pela força do boi há abundância de colheitas.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
A testemunha verdadeira não mentirá, mas a testemunha falsa se desboca em mentiras.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
O escarnecedor busca sabedoria, e nenhuma acha, mas para o prudente o conhecimento é fácil.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
Vai-te de diante do homem insensato, porque nele não divisarás os lábios do conhecimento.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
A sabedoria do prudente é entender o seu caminho, mas a estultícia dos tolos é engano.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
Os loucos zombam do pecado, mas entre os retos há benevolência.
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
O coração conhece a sua própria amargura, e o estranho não se entremeterá na sua alegria.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
A casa dos ímpios se desfará, mas a tenda dos retos florescerá.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Há caminho que ao homem parece direito, mas o fim dele são os caminhos da morte.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
Até no riso terá dor o coração, e o fim da alegria é tristeza.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
Dos seus caminhos se fartará o que declina no coração, mas o homem bom se fartará de si mesmo.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
O simples dá crédito a cada palavra, mas o prudente atenta para os seus passos.
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
O sábio teme, e desvia-se do mal, mas o tolo se encoleriza, e dá-se por seguro.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
O que presto se indigna, fará doidices, e o homem de más imaginações será aborrecido.
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Os símplices herdarão a estultícia, mas os prudentes se coroarão de conhecimento.
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
Os maus se inclinaram diante dos bons, e os ímpios diante das portas do justo.
20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.
O pobre é aborrecido até do companheiro, porém os amigos dos ricos são muitos.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.
O que despreza ao seu companheiro peca, mas o que se compadece dos humildes é bem-aventurado.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.
Porventura não erram os que obram o mal? mas beneficência e fidelidade serão para os que obram o bem.
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Em todo o trabalho proveito há, mas a palavra dos lábios só encaminha à pobreza.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.
A coroa dos sábios é a sua riqueza, a estultícia dos tolos é só estultícia.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.
A testemunha verdadeira livra as almas, mas o que se desboca em mentiras é enganador.
26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
No temor do Senhor há firme confiança, e ele será um refúgio para seus filhos.
27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
O temor do Senhor é uma fonte de vida, para se desviarem dos laços da morte.
28 In the multitude of people is the king’s honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.
Na multidão do povo está a magnificência do rei, mas na falta do povo a perturbação do príncipe.
29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
O longânimo é grande em entendimento, mas o que é de espírito impaciente assinala a sua loucura.
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
O coração com saúde é a vida da carne, mas a inveja é a podridão dos ossos.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.
O que oprime ao pobre insulta àquele que o criou, mas o que se compadece do necessitado o honra.
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
Pela sua malícia será lançado fora o ímpio, mas o justo até na sua morte tem confiança.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.
No coração do prudente repousa a sabedoria, mas o que há no interior dos tolos se conhece.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.
A justiça exalta ao povo, mas o pecado é o opróbrio das nações.
35 The king’s favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.
O Rei tem seu contentamento no servo prudente, mas sobre o que envergonha cairá o seu furor.
