Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
こういうわけで、今は、キリスト・イエスにある者が罪に定められることは決してありません。
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
なぜなら、キリスト・イエスにある、いのちの御霊の原理が、罪と死の原理から、あなたを解放したからです。
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
肉によって無力になったため、律法にはできなくなっていることを、神はしてくださいました。神はご自分の御子を、罪のために、罪深い肉と同じような形でお遣わしになり、肉において罪を処罰されたのです。
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
それは、肉に従って歩まず、御霊に従って歩む私たちの中に、律法の要求が全うされるためなのです。
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
肉に従う者は肉的なことをもっぱら考えますが、御霊に従う者は御霊に属することをひたすら考えます。
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
肉の思いは死であり、御霊による思いは、いのちと平安です。
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
というのは、肉の思いは神に対して反抗するものだからです。それは神の律法に服従しません。いや、服従できないのです。
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
肉にある者は神を喜ばせることができません。
9 But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
けれども、もし神の御霊があなたがたのうちに住んでおられるなら、あなたがたは肉の中にではなく、御霊の中にいるのです。キリストの御霊を持たない人は、キリストのものではありません。
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
もしキリストがあなたがたのうちにおられるなら、からだは罪のゆえに死んでいても、霊が、義のゆえに生きています。
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.
もしイエスを死者の中からよみがえらせた方の御霊が、あなたがたのうちに住んでおられるなら、キリスト・イエスを死者の中からよみがえらせた方は、あなたがたのうちに住んでおられる御霊によって、あなたがたの死ぬべきからだをも生かしてくださるのです。
12 Therefore, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
ですから、兄弟たち。私たちは、肉に従って歩む責任を、肉に対して負ってはいません。
13 For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.
もし肉に従って生きるなら、あなたがたは死ぬのです。しかし、もし御霊によって、からだの行ないを殺すなら、あなたがたは生きるのです。
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
神の御霊に導かれる人は、だれでも神の子どもです。
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
あなたがたは、人を再び恐怖に陥れるような、奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子としてくださる御霊を受けたのです。私たちは御霊によって、「アバ、父。」と呼びます。
16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
私たちが神の子どもであることは、御霊ご自身が、私たちの霊とともに、あかししてくださいます。
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
もし子どもであるなら、相続人でもあります。私たちがキリストと、栄光をともに受けるために苦難をともにしているなら、私たちは神の相続人であり、キリストとの共同相続人であります。
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
今の時のいろいろの苦しみは、将来私たちに啓示されようとしている栄光に比べれば、取るに足りないものと私は考えます。
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waits for the manifestation of the sons of God.
被造物も、切実な思いで神の子どもたちの現われを待ち望んでいるのです。
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who has subjected the same in hope,
それは、被造物が虚無に服したのが自分の意志ではなく、服従させた方によるのであって、望みがあるからです。
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
被造物自体も、滅びの束縛から解放され、神の子どもたちの栄光の自由の中に入れられます。
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.
私たちは、被造物全体が今に至るまで、ともにうめきともに産みの苦しみをしていることを知っています。
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
そればかりでなく、御霊の初穂をいただいている私たち自身も、心の中でうめきながら、子にしていただくこと、すなわち、私たちのからだの贖われることを待ち望んでいます。
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why does he yet hope for?
私たちは、この望みによって救われているのです。目に見える望みは、望みではありません。だれでも目で見ていることを、どうしてさらに望むでしょう。
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
もしまだ見ていないものを望んでいるのなら、私たちは、忍耐をもって熱心に待ちます。
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we should: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
御霊も同じようにして、弱い私たちを助けてくださいます。私たちは、どのように祈ったらよいかわからないのですが、御霊ご自身が、言いようもない深いうめきによって、私たちのためにとりなしてくださいます。
27 And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
人間の心を探り窮める方は、御霊の思いが何かをよく知っておられます。なぜなら、御霊は、神のみこころに従って、聖徒のためにとりなしをしてくださるからです。
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
神を愛する人々、すなわち、神のご計画に従って召された人々のためには、神がすべてのことを働かせて益としてくださることを、私たちは知っています。
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
なぜなら、神は、あらかじめ知っておられる人々を、御子のかたちと同じ姿にあらかじめ定められたからです。それは、御子が多くの兄弟たちの中で長子となられるためです。
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
神はあらかじめ定めた人々をさらに召し、召した人々をさらに義と認め、義と認めた人々にはさらに栄光をお与えになりました。
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
では、これらのことからどう言えるでしょう。神が私たちの味方であるなら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょう。
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
私たちすべてのために、ご自分の御子をさえ惜しまずに死に渡された方が、どうして、御子といっしょにすべてのものを、私たちに恵んでくださらないことがありましょう。
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifies.
神に選ばれた人々を訴えるのはだれですか。神が義と認めてくださるのです。
34 Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that died, yes rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
罪に定めようとするのはだれですか。死んでくださった方、いや、よみがえられた方であるキリスト・イエスが、神の右の座に着き、私たちのためにとりなしていてくださるのです。
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
私たちをキリストの愛から引き離すのはだれですか。患難ですか、苦しみですか、迫害ですか、飢えですか、裸ですか、危険ですか、剣ですか。
36 As it is written, For your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
「あなたのために、私たちは一日中、 死に定められている。 私たちは、ほふられる羊とみなされた。」 と書いてあるとおりです。
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
しかし、私たちは、私たちを愛してくださった方によって、これらすべてのことの中にあっても、圧倒的な勝利者となるのです。
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
私はこう確信しています。死も、いのちも、御使いも、権威ある者も、今あるものも、後に来るものも、力ある者も、
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
高さも、深さも、そのほかのどんな被造物も、私たちの主キリスト・イエスにある神の愛から、私たちを引き離すことはできません。
