Proverbs 24
1 Be not you envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
Följ icke onda menniskor, och begär icke att vara när dem.
2 For their heart studies destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Ty deras hjerta står efter skada, och deras läppar råda till ondt.
3 Through wisdom is an house built; and by understanding it is established:
Genom vishet varder ett hus bygdt, och genom förstånd vid magt hållet.
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
Genom skickelig hushållning varda husen full med allahanda kosteliga och härliga rikedomar.
5 A wise man is strong; yes, a man of knowledge increases strength.
En vis man är stark, och en förnuftig man är mägtig af krafter.
6 For by wise counsel you shall make your war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Ty med råd måste man örlig föra; och der månge rådgifvare äro, der är segren.
7 Wisdom is too high for a fool: he opens not his mouth in the gate.
Vishet är dem galna allt för hög; han tör icke upplåta sin mun i portenom.
8 He that devises to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
Den sig sjelfvom skada gör, honom kallar man väl en hufvudskalk.
9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.
Ens dåras tanke är synd, och en bespottare är en styggelse för menniskomen.
10 If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.
Den är icke stark, som i nödene icke fast är.
11 If you forbear to deliver them that are drawn to death, and those that are ready to be slain;
Hjelp dem som man döda vill, och drag dig icke undan för dem som man dräpa vill.
12 If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not he that ponders the heart consider it? and he that keeps your soul, does not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?
Säger du: Si, vi förståt intet; menar du, att den der hjertan vet, märker det icke; och den der på själena akt hafver, känner det icke; och lönar menniskone efter hennes gerningar?
13 My son, eat you honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to your taste:
Ät, min son, hannog, ty det är godt; och hannogskaka är söt i dinom hals.
14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul: when you have found it, then there shall be a reward, and your expectation shall not be cut off.
Alltså lär vishetena för dina själ; när du finner henne, så varder det framdeles väl gåendes, och ditt hopp skall icke fåfängt vara.
15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:
Vakta icke, såsom en ogudaktig, uppå dens rättfärdigas hus; förspill icke hans hvilo.
16 For a just man falls seven times, and rises up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Ty en rättfärdig faller sju resor, och står åter upp; men de ogudaktige falla uti olycko.
17 Rejoice not when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles:
Gläd dig icke öfver dins oväns fall, och ditt hjerta fröjde sig icke öfver hans olycka.
18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Herren måtte det se, och honom det illa behaga, och vända sina vrede ifrå honom.
19 Fret not yourself because of evil men, neither be you envious at the wicked:
Vredgas icke öfver den onda, och haf icke nit öfver de ogudaktiga.
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
Ty den onde hafver intet till hoppandes, och de ogudaktigas lykta skall utslockna.
21 My son, fear you the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change:
Min son, frukta Herran och Konungen, och blanda dig icke ibland de upproriska.
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knows the ruin of them both?
Ty deras förderf skall med hast uppstiga; och ho vet, när begges olycka kommer?
23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Detta kommer ock ifrå de visa. Anse personen i domenom är icke godt.
24 He that says to the wicked, You are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
Den som till den ogudaktiga säger: Du äst from; honom banna menniskorna, och folket hatar honom.
25 But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come on them.
Men de som straffa honom, de behaga väl; och en rik välsignelse kommer öfver dem.
26 Every man shall kiss his lips that gives a right answer.
Ett redeligit svar är såsom ett ljuft kyssande.
27 Prepare your work without, and make it fit for yourself in the field; and afterwards build your house.
Beställ din ärende ute, och bruka din åker; sedan bygg ditt hus.
28 Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause; and deceive not with your lips.
Var icke vittne utan sak emot din nästa, och bedrag icke med dinom mun.
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he has done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Säg icke: Såsom man gör mig, så vill jag göra igen, och vedergälla hvarjom och enom hans gerning.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
Jag gick framom dens latas åker, och om dens galnas vingård;
31 And, see, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
Och si, der var icke annat än nässlor på, och stod full med tistel, och muren var omkullfallen.
32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked on it, and received instruction.
Då jag det såg, lade jag det på hjertat, och skådade, och lärde deraf.
33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
Du vill ännu något litet sofva, och ännu något litet sömnig vara, och ännu litet sammanlägga händerna till att hvila;
34 So shall your poverty come as one that travels; and your want as an armed man.
Men din armod skall komma dig, såsom en vandrare, och din fattigdom, såsom en väpnad man.
