Matthew 6
1 Take heed that you do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise you have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
« Prenez garde à ne pas exercer votre justice devant les hommes afin d'être vus par eux; autrement il n'y a pas pour vous de récompense auprès de votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
2 Therefore when you do your alms, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
Ainsi donc quand tu feras l'aumône ne fais pas sonner la trompette devant toi, comme font les hypocrites dans les synagogues et dans les rues, afin d'être glorifiés par les hommes. En vérité je vous le déclare, ils y trouvent toute leur récompense.
3 But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does:
Mais toi, lorsque tu fais l'aumône, que ta gauche ne sache pas ce que fait ta droite,
4 That your alms may be in secret: and your Father which sees in secret himself shall reward you openly.
afin que ton aumône se fasse dans le secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te rétribuera.
5 And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
Et quand vous priez, vous ne serez pas comme les hypocrites, car ils aiment à prier en se tenant debout dans les synagogues et dans les angles des grandes rues, afin de se faire voir aux hommes. En vérité, je vous le déclare, ils y trouvent toute leur récompense.
6 But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly.
Mais toi, quand tu prieras, entre dans ta chambre, et après avoir fermé ta porte, prie ton Père qui est présent en secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te rétribuera.
7 But when you pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Or, quand vous priez, ne bavardez pas comme les hypocrites, car ils s'imaginent que grâce à leurs redites ils seront exaucés.
8 Be not you therefore like to them: for your Father knows what things you have need of, before you ask him.
Ne les imitez donc pas, car Dieu votre Père sait ce dont vous avez besoin avant que vous le Lui demandiez.
9 After this manner therefore pray you: Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be your name.
Pour vous, priez donc ainsi: Notre Père qui es dans les cieux, que Ton nom soit sanctifié;
10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
que Ton royaume vienne; que Ta volonté se fasse aussi sur la terre comme dans le ciel;
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
donne-nous aujourd'hui le pain de notre subsistance;
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
et remets-nous nos dettes, comme nous aussi nous les avons remises à nos débiteurs;
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For your is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
et ne nous expose pas à la tentation, mais délivre-nous du malin.
14 For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
En effet, si vous pardonnez aux hommes leurs fautes, votre Père céleste vous pardonnera aussi à vous.
15 But if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Mais si vous ne pardonnez pas aux hommes leurs fautes, votre Père ne pardonnera pas non plus vos propres fautes.
16 Moreover when you fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
Or, quand vous jeûnez, ne prenez pas, comme les hypocrites, un air sombre; car ils altèrent leur visage afin de faire voir aux hommes qu'ils jeûnent. En vérité, je vous le déclare, ils y trouvent toute leur récompense.
17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face;
Mais toi, lorsque tu jeûnes, parfume ta tête et lave ton visage,
18 That you appear not to men to fast, but to your Father which is in secret: and your Father, which sees in secret, shall reward you openly.
afin de ne pas faire voir aux hommes que tu jeûnes, mais à ton Père qui est présent en secret, et ton Père, qui voit dans le secret, te rétribuera.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust does corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
« Ne vous amassez pas des trésors sur la terre, où la teigne et la vermoulure détruisent, et où les voleurs font effraction et dérobent;
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust does corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
mais amassez-vous des trésors dans le ciel, ou ni la teigne ni la vermoulure ne détruisent, et où les voleurs ne font effraction ni ne dérobent;
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
car là où est ton trésor, là sera ton cœur.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light.
« Ton œil est la lampe du corps; si donc ton œil est sain, ton corps entier sera illuminé;
23 But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness!
mais si ton œil est en mauvais état, ton corps entier sera ténébreux. Si donc la lumière qui est en toi est ténèbres, les ténèbres quelles sont-elles?
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
« Nul ne peut servir deux maîtres; car, ou bien il haïra l'un et aimera l'autre, ou bien il s'attachera à l'un et méprisera l'autre; vous ne pouvez servir Dieu et Mamôna.
25 Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
C'est pourquoi je vous le déclare: ne vous inquiétez point pour votre vie de ce que vous mangerez ou de ce que vous boirez, ni pour votre corps de quoi vous serez vêtus. Est-ce que la vie n'est pas plus que la nourriture et le corps plus que le vêtement?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?
Regardez les oiseaux du ciel: car ils ne sèment, ni ne moissonnent, ni ne serrent dans des greniers, et votre Père céleste les nourrit. Est-ce que vous, vous ne valez pas bien plus qu'eux?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?
Mais lequel d'entre vous peut par ses inquiétudes ajouter à sa taille une seule coudée?
28 And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
Et quant au vêtement, pourquoi vous en inquiétez-vous? Observez les lis de la campagne: comment croissent-ils? Ils ne travaillent ni ne filent;
29 And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
cependant je vous déclare que même Salomon dans toute sa gloire ne se vêtait pas comme l'un d'eux.
30 Why, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Or, si Dieu revêt ainsi l'herbe de la campagne qui vit aujourd'hui et qui demain est jetée dans un four, ne le fera-t-Il pas à bien plus forte raison pour vous, gens de peu de foi?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
Ne dites donc pas dans votre inquiétude: Que mangerons-nous, ou que boirons-nous, ou de quoi nous vêtirons-nous?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek: ) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.
Car ce sont toutes ces choses-là que recherchent les gentils; en effet votre Père céleste sait que vous avez besoin de tout cela.
33 But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you.
Mais cherchez premièrement la justice et Son royaume, et toutes ces choses-là vous seront données par surcroît.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof.
Ne vous inquiétez donc pas du lendemain; car le lendemain s'inquiétera de lui-même; au jour suffit sa peine.
