Matthew 16
1 The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven.
Et les pharisiens et les sadducéens étant survenus, lui demandèrent, pour le mettre à l'épreuve, de leur montrer un signe qui vînt du ciel.
2 He answered and said to them, When it is evening, you say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
Mais il leur répliqua: [« Quand le soir est venu, vous dites: Beau temps, car le ciel est rouge.
3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowering. O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?
Et, le lendemain: Aujourd'hui, de l'orage, car le ciel est d'un rouge sombre. Vous savez bien discerner l'aspect du ciel, mais vous ne pouvez pas discerner les signes des temps.]
4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.
Une génération méchante et adultère demande un signe; et il ne lui sera point donné d'autre signe que le signe de Jonas. » Et les ayant quittés, il s'en alla.
5 And when his disciples were come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread.
Et en passant sur l'autre rive les disciples oublièrent de prendre des pains.
6 Then Jesus said to them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Or, Jésus leur dit: « Ayez soin de vous tenir en garde contre le levain des pharisiens et des sadducéens. »
7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have taken no bread.
Mais ils réfléchissaient en eux-mêmes et se disaient: « C'est parce que nous n'avons pas pris de pains. »
8 Which when Jesus perceived, he said to them, O you of little faith, why reason you among yourselves, because you have brought no bread?
Mais Jésus s'en étant aperçu dit: « Pourquoi réfléchissez-vous en vous-mêmes, gens de peu de foi, sur ce que vous n'avez pas des pains?
9 Do you not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
Ne comprenez-vous pas encore, et ne vous rappelez-vous plus les cinq pains des cinq mille, et combien de corbeilles vous emportâtes,
10 Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets you took up?
ni les sept pains des quatre mille, et combien de paniers vous emportâtes?
11 How is it that you do not understand that I spoke it not to you concerning bread, that you should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
Comment ne comprenez-vous pas que ce n'est pas à propos de pains que je vous ai parlé? Mais tenez-vous en garde contre le levain des pharisiens et des sadducéens. »
12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
Alors ils comprirent qu'il ne leur avait pas dit de se tenir en garde contre le levain des pains, mais contre l'enseignement des sadducéens et des pharisiens.
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
Or, lorsque Jésus fut arrivé sur le territoire de Césarée de Philippe, il interrogeait ses disciples, en disant: « Qui disent les gens qu'est le fils de l'homme? »
14 And they said, Some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
Et ils lui dirent: « Ceux-ci, Jean le baptiste; ceux-là, Élie; et d'autres, Jérémie ou l'un des prophètes. »
15 He says to them, But whom say you that I am?
Il leur dit: « Mais vous, qui dites-vous que je suis? »
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Or Simon Pierre répliqua: « Tu es le Christ, le fils du Dieu vivant. »
17 And Jesus answered and said to him, Blessed are you, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father which is in heaven.
Et Jésus lui répliqua: «Heureux es-tu, Simon Barjona, car ce n'est pas la chair ni le sang qui te l'ont révélé, mais mon Père qui est dans les cieux.
18 And I say also to you, That you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Hadēs g86)
Pour moi, je te déclare de mon côté que tu es Pierre, et que sur ce roc-là je bâtirai mon église, et que les portes de l'enfer ne prévaudront point contre elle; (Hadēs g86)
19 And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
je te donnerai les clefs du royaume des cieux, et tout ce que tu auras lié sur la terre sera lié dans les cieux, et tout ce que tu auras délié sur la terre sera délié dans les cieux. »
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
Alors il fit des remontrances aux disciples, afin qu'ils ne dissent à personne: « C'est lui qui est le Christ. »
21 From that time forth began Jesus to show to his disciples, how that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
Dès lors Jésus-Christ commença à montrer à ses disciples qu'il lui fallait se rendre à Jérusalem, et beaucoup souffrir du fait des anciens et des grands prêtres et des scribes, et être mis à mort, et ressusciter le troisième jour.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from you, Lord: this shall not be to you.
Et Pierre, l'ayant pris à part, lui dit en lui faisant des remontrances: « Miséricorde te soit faite, Seigneur, certainement cela ne t'arrivera point! »
23 But he turned, and said to Peter, Get you behind me, Satan: you are an offense to me: for you mind not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Mais lui s'étant retourné dit à Pierre: « Va-t-en arrière de moi, Satan, tu m'es une pierre d'achoppement, car tu ne penses pas aux choses de Dieu, mais à celles des hommes. »
24 Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Alors Jésus dit à ses disciples: « Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même et qu'il prenne sa croix, et qu'il me suive;
25 For whoever will save his life shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra, mais celui qui aura perdu sa vie à cause de moi, la trouvera;
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
en effet, que servira-t-il à un homme d'avoir gagné le monde entier, mais perdu sa vie?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Ou bien que donnera un homme pour racheter sa vie? Car le fils de l'homme doit venir entouré de la gloire de son Père, avec ses anges, et c'est alors qu'il rendra à chacun selon sa conduite.
28 Truly I say to you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
En vérité je vous déclare qu'il y a quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents qui ne goûteront certainement point la mort jusques à ce qu'ils aient vu le fils de l'homme venir avec son royaume. »
