< Matthew 10 >

1 And when he had called to him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
And he called to himself his twelve talmidim, and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every sickness.
2 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
Now the names of the twelve emissaries are these. The first, Shim'on, who is called Peter; and Andrew his brother; and Jacob the son of Zavdai, and John his brother;
3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; Jacob the son of Halfai, and Thaddaeus;
4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
Shim'on the Zealot, and Judah the Iskriot, who also betrayed him.
5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter you not:
Yeshua sent these twelve out, and commanded them, saying, "Do not go among the non-Jews, and do not enter into any city of the Samaritans.
6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
And as you go, proclaim, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'
8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely you have received, freely give.
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses,
Do not take any gold, nor silver, nor copper in your money belts.
10 Nor money for your journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat.
Take no bag for your journey, neither two tunics, nor shoes, nor staff: for the laborer is worthy of his food.
11 And into whatever city or town you shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till you go there.
And into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on.
12 And when you come into an house, salute it.
And as you enter into the household, greet it.
13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come on it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
And if the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
And whoever does not receive you, nor hear your words, as you leave that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet.
15 Truly I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city.
16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the middle of wolves: be you therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
"Look, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be cunning as snakes and innocent as doves.
17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will whip you in their synagogues;
But beware of people: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you.
18 And you shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what you shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what you shall speak.
But when they deliver you over, do not be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given you in that hour what you will say.
20 For it is not you that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaks in you.
For it is not you who speak, but the Ruach of your Father who speaks in you.
21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.
"And brother will deliver up brother to death, and the father his child. Children will rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death.
22 And you shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endures to the end shall be saved.
And you will be hated by everyone because of my name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved.
23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee you into another: for truly I say to you, You shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.
But when they persecute you in one city, flee to the other. And if they persecute you in the other, flee to the next. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes.
24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.
"A talmid is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord.
25 It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household?
It is enough for the talmid that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household.
26 Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
Therefore do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed; and hidden that will not be known.
27 What I tell you in darkness, that speak you in light: and what you hear in the ear, that preach you on the housetops.
What I tell you in the darkness, speak in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim on the housetops.
28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. (Geenna g1067)
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehinnom. (Geenna g1067)
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
"Are not two sparrows sold for an assarion coin? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father's will,
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear you not therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.
Therefore do not be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
32 Whoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Everyone therefore who confesses me before people, him I will also confess before my Father who is in heaven.
33 But whoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
But whoever denies me before people, him I will also deny before my Father who is in heaven.
34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
"Do not think that I came to send peace on the earth. I did not come to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
For I came to set a man at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.
And a person's foes will be those of his own household.
37 He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
38 And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me.
And whoever does not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for my sake shall find it.
Whoever seeks his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
40 He that receives you receives me, and he that receives me receives him that sent me.
Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.
41 He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.
The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward.
42 And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.
And whoever gives one of these little ones just a cup of cold water to drink because he is a talmid, truly I tell you he will in no way lose his reward."
