Mark 6
1 And he went out from there, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.
Et il sortit de là.
2 And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From where has this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given to him, that even such mighty works are worked by his hands?
Et le sabbat étant venu, il commença à enseigner dans la synagogue, et le plus grand nombre étaient stupéfaits en l'entendant, et ils disaient: « D'où viennent à celui-ci ces choses? » et: « Qu'est-ce que cette sagesse qui lui a été donnée, et les miracles de cette espèce qui se font par ses mains?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
Celui-ci n'est-il pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie, et le frère de Jacques et de Josès et de Judas et de Simon? Et ses sœurs ne sont-elles pas ici parmi nous? » Et il était pour eux une pierre d'achoppement.
4 But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.
Et Jésus leur dit: « Ce n'est que dans sa patrie, et parmi ses parents, et dans sa famille, qu'un prophète est méprisé. »
5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands on a few sick folk, and healed them.
Et il ne pouvait faire là aucun miracle, sauf qu'ayant imposé les mains à quelques infirmes, il les guérit;
6 And he marveled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.
et il s'émerveilla de leur incrédulité.
7 And he called to him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;
Et il appelle à lui les douze, et il commença à les envoyer deux par deux, et il leur donnait autorité sur les esprits impurs,
8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no money, no bread, no money in their purse:
et il leur ordonna de ne rien prendre pour la route, sauf un bâton seulement, point de pain, ni de besace, ni de monnaie dans la ceinture,
9 But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.
mais de chausser des sandales, et de ne pas revêtir deux tuniques.
10 And he said to them, In what place soever you enter into an house, there abide till you depart from that place.
Et il leur disait: « Partout où vous serez entrés dans une maison, restez-y jusques à ce que vous sortiez de là;
11 And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when you depart there, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Truly I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
et l'endroit qui ne vous aura pas reçus, et où l'on ne vous aura pas écoutés, secouez en sortant de là la poussière qui est sous vos pieds pour leur servir de témoignage. »
12 And they went out, and preached that men should repent.
Et étant partis ils prêchèrent qu'on eût à se repentir,
13 And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
et ils chassaient plusieurs démons, et ils oignaient d'huile plusieurs malades, et ils les guérissaient.
14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad: ) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.
Et le roi Hérode ouït parler de lui, car son nom était devenu célèbre, et on disait: « Jean le baptiseur est ressuscité des morts, et c'est pourquoi les miracles s'opèrent par lui; »
15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.
mais d'autres disaient: « C'est Élie; » tandis que d'autres disaient: « C'est un prophète comme l'un des prophètes. »
16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, It is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
Mais Hérode en ayant ouï parler, disait: « Ce Jean que j'ai fait décapiter, c'est lui qui est ressuscité. »
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold on John, and bound him in prison for Herodias’ sake, his brother Philip’s wife: for he had married her.
En effet Hérode lui-même avait envoyé saisir Jean, et l'avait fait enchaîner en prison à cause d'Hérodias femme de Philippe son frère; car il l'avait épousée,
18 For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.
et Jean disait à Hérode: « Il ne t'est pas permis de posséder la femme de ton frère. »
19 Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him, and would have killed him; but she could not:
Mais Hérodias lui en gardait rancune, et elle voulait le faire mourir, et elle ne le pouvait pas,
20 For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and an holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.
car Hérode craignait Jean; sachant que c'était un homme juste et saint, il le protégeait; et après l'avoir entendu, il était souvent inquiet, et il l'écoutait volontiers.
21 And when a convenient day was come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee;
Et un jour propice étant survenu, auquel Hérode, pour la fête anniversaire de sa naissance, donna un festin à ses grands et aux généraux, et aux principaux de la Galilée,
22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said to the damsel, Ask of me whatever you will, and I will give it you.
et sa fille Hérodias étant entrée et ayant dansé, elle plut à Hérode et aux convives. Or le roi dit à la jeune fille: « Demande-moi ce que tu voudras, et je te le donnerai. »
23 And he swore to her, Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give it you, to the half of my kingdom.
Et il lui dit avec serment: « Quoi que ce soit que tu me demandes, je te le donnerai, fût-ce la moitié de mon royaume. »
24 And she went forth, and said to her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist.
Et étant sortie, elle dit à sa mère: « Que demanderai-je? » Et elle lui dit: « La tête de Jean le baptiseur. »
25 And she came in straightway with haste to the king, and asked, saying, I will that you give me by and by in a charger the head of John the Baptist.
Et étant aussitôt rentrée avec empressement auprès du roi, elle lui adressa sa demande en disant: « Je veux que tu me donnes immédiatement sur un plat la tête de Jean le baptiseur. »
26 And the king was exceeding sorry; yet for his oath’s sake, and for their sakes which sat with him, he would not reject her.
Et le roi devenu tout triste, ne voulut pas, à cause de ses serments et des convives, lui manquer de parole;
27 And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison,
et aussitôt le roi expédia un de ses gardes, avec l'ordre de rapporter sa tête;
28 And brought his head in a charger, and gave it to the damsel: and the damsel gave it to her mother.
et étant parti il le décapita dans la prison, et rapporta sa tête sur un plat, et il la donna à la jeune fille, et la jeune fille la donna à sa mère.
29 And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.
Et ses disciples l'ayant appris vinrent et enlevèrent son cadavre, et ils le placèrent dans un tombeau.
30 And the apostles gathered themselves together to Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Et les apôtres se réunirent auprès de Jésus, et ils lui racontèrent tout ce qu'ils avaient fait et tout ce qu'ils avaient enseigné.
31 And he said to them, Come you yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
Et il leur dit: « Venez, vous seuls, dans un lieu désert à l'écart, et reposez-vous un peu. » En effet les allants et venants étaient nombreux, et ils n'avaient pas même le loisir de manger.
32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately.
Et ils s'en allèrent sur la barque dans un lieu désert à l'écart.
33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and preceded them, and came together to him.
Et on les vit partir, et plusieurs les reconnurent, et ils accoururent là à pied de toutes les villes, et ils les devancèrent.
34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
Et lorsqu'il aborda, il vit une foule nombreuse, et il fut ému de compassion envers eux, car ils étaient comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger; et il se mit à leur enseigner beaucoup de choses.
35 And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came to him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed:
Et comme l'heure était déjà fort avancée, ses disciples s'étant approchés de lui disaient: « Ce lieu est désert, et l'heure est déjà fort avancée,
36 Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat.
renvoie-les, afin qu'ils aillent dans les campagnes et les villages d'alentour s'acheter de quoi manger. »
37 He answered and said to them, Give you them to eat. And they say to him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?
Mais il leur répliqua: « Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. » Et ils lui disent: « Allons acheter pour deux cents deniers de pains, et donnons-leur à manger! »
38 He says to them, How many loaves have you? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes.
Mais il leur dit: « Combien avez-vous de pains? Allez le voir. » Et après s'en être assurés, ils disent: « Cinq, et deux poissons. »
39 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies on the green grass.
Et il leur ordonna que tout le monde s'assît, groupes par groupes, sur l'herbe verte;
40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.
et ils s'étendirent bandes par bandes de cent et de cinquante.
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
Et après avoir pris les cinq pains et les deux poissons, il prononça, en levant les yeux vers le ciel, une bénédiction; puis il rompit les pains, et il les donnait aux disciples, afin qu'ils les leur offrissent; et il distribua à tous les deux poissons.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
Et tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés;
43 And they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments, and of the fishes.
et on emporta des morceaux de quoi remplir douze corbeilles, ainsi que des poissons.
44 And they that did eat of the loaves were about five thousand men.
Et ceux qui avaient mangé les pains étaient cinq mille hommes.
45 And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before to Bethsaida, while he sent away the people.
Et aussitôt il contraignit ses disciples à monter dans la barque et à passer les premiers sur l'autre rive, vers Bethsaïda, jusques à ce que lui-même eût renvoyé la foule.
46 And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.
Et après les avoir congédiés, il s'en alla sur la montagne pour prier.
47 And when even was come, the ship was in the middle of the sea, and he alone on the land.
Et le soir étant venu, la barque se trouvait au milieu de la mer, et lui-même était seul à terre.
48 And he saw them toiling in rowing; for the wind was contrary to them: and about the fourth watch of the night he comes to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed by them.
Et les ayant vus battus par les flots, pendant qu'ils ramaient, car le vent leur était contraire, il vient vers eux à la quatrième veille de la nuit, en marchant sur la mer, et il voulait les dépasser.
49 But when they saw him walking on the sea, they supposed it had been a spirit, and cried out:
Mais eux, en le voyant marcher sur la mer, s'imaginèrent que c'était un fantôme, et ils poussèrent des cris;
50 For they all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and says to them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
car tous le virent et furent troublés; mais aussitôt il leur parla et leur dit: « Courage, c'est moi, n'ayez pas peur? »
51 And he went up to them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
Et il monta auprès d'eux dans la barque, et le vent tomba. Et ils ressentirent en eux-mêmes une grande stupéfaction;
52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
car ils n'avaient pas compris l'affaire des pains, mais leur cœur était endurci.
53 And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore.
Et ayant achevé leur traversée, ils touchèrent terre à Gennèsareth, et ils abordèrent.
54 And when they were come out of the ship, straightway they knew him,
Et lorsqu'ils furent sortis de la barque, aussitôt qu'on l'eut reconnu,
55 And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, where they heard he was.
on parcourut toute cette contrée-là, et on se mit à transporter les malades sur leurs couchettes, partout où on entendait dire qu'il se trouvait.
56 And wherever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and sought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.
Et partout où il entrait dans les villages, ou dans les villes, ou dans les campagnes, on déposait les malades dans les places publiques, et on le sollicitait afin qu'ils pussent toucher, ne fût-ce que la frange de son manteau, et tous ceux qui le touchèrent étaient guéris.
