Luke 12
1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, so that they stepped one on another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware you of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Cependant une grande multitude s’étant assemblée autour de lui, de sorte qu’ils marchaient les uns sur les autres, il commença à dire à ses disciples: Gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens, qui est l’hypocrisie.
2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
Car rien de caché qui ne se révèle, ni de secret qui ne se sache.
3 Therefore whatever you have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which you have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed on the housetops.
Ainsi ce que vous avez dit dans les ténèbres se dira à la lumière; et ce que vous avez dit à l’oreille, dans les chambres à coucher, sera publié sur les toits.
4 And I say to you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Or je vous dis à vous, qui êtes mes amis: Ne craignez point ceux qui tuent le corps, et après cela ne peuvent plus rien faire.
5 But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, which after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him. (Geenna g1067)
Mais je vous montrerai qui vous devez craindre: Craignez celui qui, après avoir ôté la vie, a le pouvoir d’envoyer dans la géhenne: oui, je vous le dis, craignez celui-là. (Geenna g1067)
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
Cinq passereaux ne se vendent-ils pas deux as, et cependant pas un d’eux n’est en oubli devant Dieu?
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.
Les cheveux mêmes de votre tête sont tous comptés. Ne craignez donc point, vous valez plus que beaucoup de passereaux.
8 Also I say to you, Whoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
Or je vous le dis: Quiconque m’aura confessé devant les hommes, le Fils de l’homme aussi le confessera devant les anges de Dieu.
9 But he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.
Mais qui m’aura renié devant les hommes, sera renié devant les anges de Dieu.
10 And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but to him that blasphemes against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.
Quiconque parle contre le Fils de l’homme, il lui sera remis; mais pour celui qui aura blasphémé contre l’Esprit-Saint, il ne lui sera pas remis.
11 And when they bring you to the synagogues, and to magistrates, and powers, take you no thought how or what thing you shall answer, or what you shall say:
Lorsqu’on vous conduira dans les synagogues, devant les magistrats et les puissances, ne vous inquiétez point de quelle manière ou de ce que vous répondrez, ou bien de ce que vous direz.
12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you ought to say.
Car l’Esprit-Saint vous enseignera à l’heure même ce qu’il vous faudra dire.
13 And one of the company said to him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.
Alors quelqu’un de la foule lui dit: Maître, dites à mon frère de partager avec moi notre héritage.
14 And he said to him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?
Mais Jésus lui répondit: Homme, qui m’a établi juge sur vous, ou pour faire vos partages?
15 And he said to them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.
Puis il leur dit: Voyez, et gardez-vous de toute avarice; car dans l’abondance même la vie de chacun ne dépend point des choses qu’il possède.
16 And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
Il leur dit ensuite cette parabole: il y avait un homme riche dont le champ rapportait beaucoup de fruits;
17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
Or il pensait en lui-même, disant: Que ferai-je, car je n’ai point où serrer mes fruits?
18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.
Et il dit: Voici ce que je ferai: je détruirai mes greniers, et j’en ferai de plus grands, et j’y rassemblerai tous mes produits et tous mes biens.
19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have much goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.
Et je dirai à mon âme: Mon âme, tu as beaucoup de biens en réserve pour plusieurs années; repose-toi, mange, bois, fais grande chère.
20 But God said to him, You fool, this night your soul shall be required of you: then whose shall those things be, which you have provided?
Mais Dieu lui dit: Insensé, cette nuit même on te redemandera ton âme; et ce que tu as amassé, à qui sera-t-il?
21 So is he that lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Ainsi est celui qui thésaurise pour lui, et qui n’est point riche devant Dieu.
22 And he said to his disciples, Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat; neither for the body, what you shall put on.
Et il dit à ses disciples: C’est pourquoi je vous dis: Ne vous inquiétez point pour votre vie, de ce que vous mangerez; ni pour votre corps, de quoi vous le vêtirez.
23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
La vie est plus que la nourriture, et le corps plus que le vêtement.
24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are you better than the fowls?
Considérez les corbeaux, ils ne sèment ni ne moissonnent, ils n’ont ni cellier ni grenier, et Dieu les nourrit. Combien ne valez-vous pas plus qu’eux?
25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?
Qui de vous, en s’inquiétant ainsi, peut ajouter à sa taille une seule coudée?
26 If you then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take you thought for the rest?
Si donc vous ne pouvez même pas les moindres choses, pourquoi vous inquiéter des autres?
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say to you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Considérez les lis comme ils croissent; ils ne travaillent ni ne filent: et cependant je vous le dis, Salomon lui-même, dans toute sa gloire, n’était pas vêtu comme l’un d’eux.
28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith?
Or si l’herbe qui est aujourd’hui dans les champs, et qui demain sera jetée au four, Dieu la revêt ainsi, combien plus le fera-t-il pour vous, hommes de peu de foi?
29 And seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink, neither be you of doubtful mind.
Ne demandez donc point ce que vous aurez à manger ou à boire, et ne vous élevez pas si haut;
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knows that you have need of these things.
Car ce sont ces choses que les nations du monde recherchent; mais votre Père sait que vous en avez besoin.
31 But rather seek you the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added to you.
Ainsi cherchez premièrement le royaume de Dieu et sa justice; et toutes ces choses vous seront données par surcroît.
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Ne craignez point, petit troupeau, parce qu’il a plu à votre Père de vous donner son royaume.
33 Sell that you have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.
Vendez ce que vous avez et donnez l’aumône. Faites-vous des bourses que le temps n’use point, un trésor qui ne vous fasse pas défaut dans les cieux, où le voleur n’approche point, et où les vers ne rongent point.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Car où est votre trésor, là sera aussi votre cœur.
35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
Ceignez vos reins, et ayez en vos mains les lampes allumées;
36 And you yourselves like to men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open to him immediately.
Semblables à des hommes qui attendent que leur maître revienne des noces; afin que lorsqu’il viendra et frappera à la porte, ils lui ouvrent aussitôt.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching: truly I say to you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
Heureux ces serviteurs, que le maître, quand il viendra, trouvera veillant! En vérité, je vous le dis, il se ceindra, et les fera mettre à table, et passant de l’un à l’autre, il les servira.
38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
Et s’il vient à la seconde veille, et s’il vient à la troisième veille, et qu’il les trouve ainsi, heureux sont ces serviteurs.
39 And this know, that if the manager of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Car sachez bien que si le père de famille savait à quelle heure le voleur doit venir, il veillerait et ne laisserait point percer sa maison.
40 Be you therefore ready also: for the Son of man comes at an hour when you think not.
Et vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts; parce qu’à l’heure que vous ne pensez pas, le Fils de l’homme viendra.
41 Then Peter said to him, Lord, speak you this parable to us, or even to all?
Or Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, est-ce pour nous que vous dites cette parabole, ou pour tout le monde?
42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
Et le Seigneur dit: Qui, pensez-vous, est le dispensateur fidèle et prudent que le maître a établi sur tous ses serviteurs pour leur distribuer, dans le temps, leur mesure de froment?
43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.
Heureux ce serviteur que le maître, lorsqu’il viendra, trouvera agissant ainsi!
44 Of a truth I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.
Je vous dis, en vérité, qu’il l’établira sur tous les biens qu’il possède.
45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;
Que si ce serviteur dit en son cœur: Mon maître tarde à venir; et qu’il commence à battre les serviteurs et les servantes, à manger, à boire et à s’enivrer;
46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looks not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.
Le maître de ce serviteur viendra le jour où il ne s’y attend pas, et à l’heure qu’il ne sait pas, et il le divisera, et il lui donnera ainsi sa part avec les infidèles.
47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Mais ce serviteur, qui a connu la volonté de son maître, et ne s’est pas tenu prêt, et de cette manière n’a pas agi selon sa volonté, recevra un grand nombre de coups;
48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For to whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Celui qui ne l’a pas connue, et qui a fait des choses dignes de châtiment, recevra peu de coups. Car à celui à qui on a donné beaucoup, on demandera beaucoup; et de celui à qui on a confié beaucoup, on exigera davantage.
49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
Je suis venu jeter un feu sur la terre; et que veux-je, sinon qu’il s’allume?
50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Je dois être baptisé d’un baptême; or combien je me sens pressé jusqu’à ce qu’il s’accomplisse?
51 Suppose you that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, No; but rather division:
Pensez-vous que je sois venu apporter la paix sur la terre? Non, je vous le dis; mais la division.
52 For from now on there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Car, désormais, dans une seule maison, cinq seront divisés, trois contre deux, et deux contre trois;
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Seront divisés: le père contre le fils, et le fils contre le père; la mère contre la fille, et la fille contre la mère; la belle-mère contre sa belle-fille, et la belle-fille contre sa belle-mère.
54 And he said also to the people, When you see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway you say, There comes a shower; and so it is.
Il disait aussi au peuple: Lorsque vous voyez un nuage se former au couchant, aussitôt vous dites: La pluie vient, et il arrive ainsi.
55 And when you see the south wind blow, you say, There will be heat; and it comes to pass.
Et quand vous voyez souffler le vent du midi, vous dites: Il fera chaud, et cela arrive.
56 You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time?
Hypocrites, vous savez juger d’après l’aspect du ciel et de la terre; mais ce temps-ci, comment ne le reconnaissez-vous point?
57 Yes, and why even of yourselves judge you not what is right?
Comment ne discernez-vous pas de vous-mêmes ce qui est juste?
58 When you go with your adversary to the magistrate, as you are in the way, give diligence that you may be delivered from him; lest he hale you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and the officer cast you into prison.
Lorsque tu vas avec ton adversaire devant un magistrat, tâche de te dégager de lui en chemin, de peur qu’il ne te traîne devant le juge et que le juge ne te livre à l’exécuteur, et que l’exécuteur ne te jette en prison.
59 I tell you, you shall not depart there, till you have paid the very last mite.
Je te le dis, tu n’en sortiras point que tu n’aies payé jusqu’à la dernière obole.
