James 5
1 Go to now, you rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come on you.
Allons maintenant, les riches! Pleurez en poussant des cris à cause des malheurs qui vont survenir:
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
vos richesses sont putréfiées, et vos vêtements ont été rongés par les vers,
3 Your gold and silver is corroded; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days.
votre or et votre argent sont rouillés, et leur rouille portera témoignage contre vous, et elle dévorera vos chairs comme le feu. C'est au moment des derniers jours que vous avez thésaurisé!
4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
Voici, le salaire des ouvriers qui ont moissonné vos campagnes, retenu par vous crie, et les clameurs des moissonneurs sont entrées dans les oreilles du Seigneur Sabaoth.
5 You have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
Vous avez vécu sur la terre dans les délices et dans la débauche, vous avez repu vos cœurs en un jour de tuerie.
6 You have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist you.
Vous avez condamné, vous avez fait mourir le juste, il ne vous résiste pas.
7 Be patient therefore, brothers, to the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
Prenez donc patience, frères, jusques à l'avènement du seigneur. Voici, l'agriculteur sait attendre le précieux fruit de la terre, prenant patience à son égard jusques à ce qu'il ait recueilli le précoce et le tardif.
8 Be you also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws near.
Vous aussi prenez patience, fortifiez vos cœurs, car l'avènement du Seigneur s'approche.
9 Grudge not one against another, brothers, lest you be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.
Ne murmurez pas, frères, les uns contre les autres, afin que vous ne soyez pas jugés; voici, le juge est à la porte.
10 Take, my brothers, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
Frères, prenez pour modèle de souffrance et de patience les prophètes qui ont parlé au nom du Seigneur.
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Voici, nous proclamons bienheureux ceux qui ont tenu ferme; vous avez ouï parler de la constance de Job, et vous avez vu l'issue donnée par le Seigneur, car le Seigneur a beaucoup d'entrailles, et Il est compatissant.
12 But above all things, my brothers, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yes be yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into condemnation.
Mais avant toutes choses, mes frères, ne jurez point, ni par le ciel, ni par la terre, ni par aucun autre serment; mais que votre oui soit oui, et votre non, non, afin que vous ne tombiez pas sous le jugement.
13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
Quelqu'un souffre-t-il parmi vous? qu'il prie! Quelqu'un est-il content? qu'il chante des cantiques!
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Quelqu'un est-il malade parmi vous? qu'il fasse venir les anciens de l'église, et qu'ils prient sur lui après avoir fait une onction d'huile en invoquant le nom;
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
et la prière de la foi sauvera le malade, et le Seigneur le relèvera, et quand même il aurait commis des péchés, il lui sera pardonné.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Confessez-vous donc réciproquement vos péchés, et priez les uns pour les autres, afin que vous soyez guéris; la prière active d'un juste peut beaucoup.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Élie était un homme de même nature que vous, et il fit une prière pour qu'il ne plût pas, et il ne plut pas sur la terre pendant trois ans et six mois,
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
puis il pria derechef, et le ciel donna de la pluie, et la terre produisit son fruit.
19 Brothers, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
Mes frères, si quelqu'un parmi vous s'est laissé égarer loin de la vérité, et que quelqu'un l'y ait ramené,
20 Let him know, that he which converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
sachez que celui qui aura ramené un pécheur du chemin où il s'égarait sauvera une âme de la mort même, et couvrira une multitude de péchés.
