Ecclesiastes 10
1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking smell: so does a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honor.
೧ಸತ್ತ ನೊಣಗಳಿಂದ ಗಂಧದತೈಲವು ಕೊಳೆತು ನಾರುವುದು. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವು ಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಘನತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕೆಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
2 A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.
೨ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯು ಅವನ ಬಲಗಡೆಯಿರುವುದು. ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯು ಅವನ ಎಡಗಡೆಯಿರುವುದು.
3 Yes also, when he that is a fool walks by the way, his wisdom fails him, and he says to every one that he is a fool.
೩ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಹುಚ್ಚನು ಬುದ್ಧಿತಪ್ಪಿ ತಿರುಗುವ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ತನ್ನ ಹುಚ್ಚುತನವನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೆ ಪ್ರಕಟಮಾಡುವನು.
4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against you, leave not your place; for yielding pacifies great offenses.
೪ದೊರೆಯು ನಿನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಿಟ್ಟುಗೊಂಡರೆ ಉದ್ಯೋಗವನ್ನು ಬಿಡಬೇಡ. ತಾಳ್ಮೆಯು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಿಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಅಡಗಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
5 There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceeds from the ruler:
೫ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಸಂಕಟವನ್ನು ಕಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಅದು ಆಳುವವನ ಸಮ್ಮುಖದಿಂದ ಹೊರಟುಬರುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತೋರುತ್ತದೆ.
6 Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.
೬ಮೂಢರಿಗೆ ಮಹಾ ಪದವಿ ದೊರೆಯುವುದು. ಘನವಂತರೂ ಹೀನಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿರುವರು.
7 I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking as servants on the earth.
೭ಆಳುಗಳು ಕುದುರೆ ಸವಾರಿ ಮಾಡುವುದನ್ನೂ, ಪ್ರಭುಗಳು ಆಳುಗಳಂತೆ ನೆಲದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಡೆಯುವುದನ್ನೂ ನೋಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
8 He that digs a pit shall fall into it; and whoever breaks an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
೮ಗುಂಡಿಯನ್ನು ತೋಡುವವನು ತಾನೇ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಬೀಳುವನು, ಗೋಡೆಯನ್ನು ಒಡೆಯುವವನಿಗೆ, ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚುವುದು.
9 Whoever removes stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that splits wood shall be endangered thereby.
೯ಯಾವನು ಕಲ್ಲುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೀಳುವನೋ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಹಾನಿ ಆಗುವುದು. ಮರವನ್ನು ಕಡೆಯುವವನಿಗೆ ಅಪಾಯವಿದೆ.
10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.
೧೦ಮೊಂಡು ಕೊಡಲಿಯ ಬಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಮಸೆಯದಿದ್ದರೆ ಅವನು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಲವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಯೋಗಿಸಬೇಕು. ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವೇ ಸಾಧನ.
11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.
೧೧ಹಾವಾಡಿಸುವುದರೊಳಗೆ ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚಿದರೆ, ಹಾವಾಡಿಗನಿಗೆ ಯಾವ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.
12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
೧೨ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಮಾತು ಹಿತ. ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಬಾಯಿ ತನ್ನನ್ನೇ ನುಂಗಿಬಿಡುವುದು.
13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.
೧೩ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಮಾತುಗಳು ಆರಂಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನತೆ, ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪಾಯದ ಮರಳುತನ.
14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?
೧೪ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಮುಂದೆ ಆಗುವುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯನು. ತಾನು ಕಾಲವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೀಗೆಯೇ ಆಗುವುದೆಂದು ಅವನು ಯಾರಿಂದ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡಾನು? ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಯ ಮಾತುಗಳೋ ಬಹಳ.
15 The labor of the foolish wearies every one of them, because he knows not how to go to the city.
೧೫ಪಟ್ಟಣದ ದಾರಿ ತಿಳಿಯದವನಿಗೆ ಮೂಢರು ತಿಳಿಸಲು, ಪಡುವ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ಆಯಾಸವೇ.
16 Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes eat in the morning!
೧೬ದೇಶದ ಅರಸನು ಯುವಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಪ್ರಭುಗಳು ಹೊತ್ತಾರೆ ಔತಣಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ದೌರ್ಭಾಗ್ಯವೇ!
17 Blessed are you, O land, when your king is the son of nobles, and your princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!
೧೭ದೇಶದ ಅರಸನು ಕುಲೀನನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ಪ್ರಭುಗಳು ಅಮಲಿಗಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಶಕ್ತಿಗಾಗಿ ಸಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಳಿತರೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಭಾಗ್ಯವೇ!
18 By much slothfulness the building decays; and through idleness of the hands the house drops through.
೧೮ಸೋಮಾರಿತನದಿಂದ ತೊಲೆಗಳು ಬೊಗ್ಗುವವು. ಜೋಲುಗೈಯಿಂದ ಮನೆ ಸೋರುವುದು.
19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry: but money answers all things.
೧೯ನಗುವಿಗಾಗಿ ಔತಣವು, ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸದಿಂದ ಜೀವನಕ್ಕೆ ಆನಂದವು, ಧನವು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಒದಗಿಸಿಕೊಡುವುದು.
20 Curse not the king, no not in your thought; and curse not the rich in your bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which has wings shall tell the matter.
೨೦ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅರಸನನ್ನು ದೂಷಿಸದಿರು. ಮಲಗುವ ಕೋಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಧನಿಕನನ್ನು ಬಯ್ಯದಿರು. ಆಕಾಶದ ಹಕ್ಕಿಯು ಆ ಶಬ್ದವನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಿಸುವವು; ಪಕ್ಷಿಯು ಆ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುವುದು.
